Catch The Ball!
December 3rd, 2020No Bucs quarterback wants to be sandwiched between Carson Wentz and Matt Stafford.
But that’s where you can find park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, jet ski-losing, handshake-stiffing Bucs quarterback Tom Brady. And it’s no fault of his own.
It seems, per drop passes stats tracked by the PFF tribe, only one quarterback has had more passes dropped than Brady’s 28. And that is Carson Wentz (29).
Now Joe wants to be fair to Brady here. Dropped passes stats are all over the map; each source has a different standard for what is a dropped pass. You can do a Google search and find all sorts of stats and they are wildly inconsistent.
A dropped pass to one guy is an uncatchable pass to another. You get the drift.
Still, ballpark half of that number (at least) is probably correct. And 14 is still too many for an NFL team, especially with the talent the Bucs have.
A lot of people are focused on a Bucs offense that sputters and is, at best, inconsistent. One reason is dropped passes. Those are drive killers almost as bad as a sack.
Now this information was published before yesterday’s game between the Crows and the Steelers. Joe isn’t sure how many watched that game, but dang, Joe swears Steelers receivers dropped eight or nine passes on Ben Roethlisberger (and Brady has played one more game than most quarterbacks).
Most dropped passes:
1. Carson Wentz – 29
2. Tom Brady – 28
3. Matthew Stafford – 25 pic.twitter.com/Ymgcb8O3FE— PFF (@PFF) December 1, 2020

The running backs unfortunately must be responsible for about half of those or more.

Well said, Mitch.

Some of the dropped passes are because Brady was forced to get rid of the ball before the receiver was ready for it.

true on the RB, and i’d say a lot due to WR’s not being used to timing on routes. i.e. the ball is gonna be there before you look…be ready!
their used to broken plays and sandlot ball with JW. cause it’ll hit them right on the money and they look surprised it was even there.

Guess what? Catching the football is part of their jobs. Cut who can’t catch….simple. Tired of these overpaid clowns not doing their damned jobs.

The RB’s have dropped some easy passes, but I’ve also seen Brady throw at them too hard (for being so close), or throw lousy passes (he almost got Ke’Shawn Vaughn killed in Chicago). This has been an area of disappointment so far this year. How many drives have been killed by not being able to perform one of the easier aspects of football?

How about getting us a QB who can throw on the run or spin and get out of the way.

Mike Johnson: How many times has Brady been sacked this year? How many times was our QB sacked last year?

Brady is still a good quarterback but he’s one of the last of a dying breed of QB. The mobile QB is taking the NFL by storm.

A a lot of the drops are because our receivers get no separation And Brady has to fire the ball in there to prevent it getting pick. The coaches need come up with a better scheme to get our pro bowl receivers more and not running down the field 10 or more yards before turning around as Brady doesn’t have that kind of time. This isn’t rocket science why can’t our coach figure this out.

Receivers more open

I hope Brady and Evans spend the entire bye working on their connection – that is the biggest issue we have outside of play calling
RB’s account for 75% of the drops and that has cost us several big plays or drive continuing plays
Agree, Vaughn should get a chance – in his brief stints he has looked quick and smooth in the pass game
Fournette is just bad – tiptoe runner….have no idea how he caught 74 balls in Jax, must have have 150 targets that season – please just bench him
Shady is toast – he is a coach in pads…think Burt Reynolds, longest yard

It ain’t just the running backs.
Evans and Gronk have both had a few that were definitely catchable.
