Report: Bucs Coaches Meeting Tom Brady’s Demand For “Better Midweek Preparations”

This is a good one from a reputable reporter who always seems extremely closely connected to Tom Brady’s inner circle.
Former NFL Network reporter Jeff Darlington, a proud Pinellas County product, works for ESPN and has been ahead of the curve on all things Brady since before he arrived in Tampa.
Prior to the Bucs-Chiefs game yesterday, Darlington spoke on television about his talks with the Brady inner circle and Bucs hierarchy.
Of course, in typical BSPN style, what Darlington learned doesn’t quite jibe with his recently hollering colleague, Rob Ninkovich, a former Brady teammate.
Darlington says “people close to Brady” say he’s super happy in Tampa and enjoys Bucco Bruce Arians’ straight-shooter ways. But Brady appears to want better coaching, per Darlington, and the Bucs responded.
“Brady wants to see better midweek preparations, better situational planning. So that at the end of games, like the one against the Rams, they’re in a better spot,” Darlington said. “Speaking with high-ranking Bucs sources, they say that they feel like they recognize that and they have worked [last week] to try to make some corrections in that area.”
Joe is intrigued by the timing of Darlington’s comments. Leading up the Rams game, Arians gave Bucs players an extra day off and went lighter on the practices and changed the team’s schedule. Per the Monday Night Football broadcast, Brady was no fan of the new night practices because they got in the way of his 9:15 p.m. bed time.
Also interesting to Joe is last week’s alleged better preparation leading to the Bucs soiling their pants in the first quarter yesterday.

Brady is used to the meticulous, relentless coaching approach that he had for the first 20 years of his career. I’m sure he knew this would be a challenge. Obviously it’s troubling that this far in there are now making these changes. Seems like Brady wants to be coached harder which goes against the grain of the current coaching staff. Will be interesting to see how this ends.

Ignorant embarrassing coaches. If Brady has to demand better coaching you should all be fired after your one and done season and let him pick a damn coach honestly. What are we wanting to be like the Saints winning regular seasons games just to waste a playoff spot by losing or we wanting to compete for a super bowl? It’s f-Ing week 12 and now they want to prepare better?

I think the “game plans” probably have something to do with their early struggles. I checked and they’ve been down in the 1st quarter in 9 or their 12 games. The coaches and players will blame execution I’m sure, but they really need to look into the mirror to consider if the game plans are really putting players into their best positions to succeed.

Some gameplanning would be a great addition and asset to this team. Especially if they want to win a Superbowl. This lazy “we are going to play our scheme” shtick doesn’t work against the best teams in the NFL.

I think just about every Bucs fan would have told you before the game that at minimum tyreek hill needs to be double covered off the bat from the forst snap, and that Kelce falls into that category as well.
Odly enough our coaches making millions of dollars waited until the team was down THREE FREAKING POSSESSIONS to make any type of adjustments on offense or defense.
Bruce Arians has waaaaaay to much prode and trust in his staff. He will fail because of his pride and semi retired golf cart ways

no – some of us can’t accept mediocrity just because the alternative is crap….
It is not too much ask for a consistent playoff contender that does not embarrass the city of tampa, the sport of football and men worldwide. instead we get a leadership void, pansy arse franchise that holds every single worst of nfl records….. i’ve been patient for a consistent contender since 1977…. this team has NEVER contended consistency…. one and done dungy the clown style is not consistency nor contending. it might have made you feel all warm and fuzzy but it was still Losing!
Just trying to be better than Cleveland every year may work for you guys but I laugh at that mentality and usually end up hiring people to mow my lawn who follow that mentality.

I would have loved to see us win yesterday, that said, we lost to the defending super bowl champs by a field goal. A total team loss. No one in particular to blame. We settled for a field goal twice. The difference between a victory and a loss. Probably a one play difference. One better play called, one more properly executed play, one better blocked play, one better protected play, or one better thrown ball. One play. The defense got beat up in the first quarter then made adjustments and played well. One better play on that side of the ball could have secured a victory too. One play difference. Against the reigning supper bowl champs.
The Bucs have the pieces in place to be a great team . A great QB, great players on both sides of the ball, great coaches, and great fans. They are moving in that direction. They will start making that one play and the victories that go with it. Go bucs.

Oneil…..some of us don’t realistically….realistically think this team is going to the Super Bowl. Nor did we ever before the season started. So Super Bowl or bust doesn’t apply to many of us. Some of us after sucking for a decade or so are more than content with a 10-6 record and a wild card berth.

TMax it’s not over and there is much more season left to improve! We loss by a total of -6 points combined to the last to teams in a Super Bowl.
Is the coaching staff elite, no. Is it an upgrade from where we have been let’s say the last 15 years – dam right it is. Let’s just sit back and see if the coaches can evolve the offense and proper preparation that Brady is asking for.
He knows what it takes and the level of details required. That alone gives us HOPE.
Let’s not treat this like politics and the climate of this country socially.
There is hope! There are weeks remaining.
Romo (the all knowing announcer hahahaj) called it yesterday and said we will be fine and he saw more motion and evolution in the offense yesterday. So let’s see.

You’re preaching brother! I totally agree. I think we inadvertently let the mass media influence our thinking and expectations.
If we made the playoffs and get a wildcard and or get sent home, that’s a successful season. We can build on that and look at what we have to do to get better next year.
The Saints are a annual choke in the playoffs but they’re a regular season machine because of their foundation and continuity along with excellence at coaching.
People be patient – it’s good to vent but let’s keep some perspective.

personally i think gronk is getting more and more of a role on offense because toms is like:
“fugg this i’m just gonna throw to gronk”
these are all old patriots plays with gronk for sure…
i think tom is growing more suspect of the BA offense and the leftwich calls, and just audibles out to his bread and butter stuff more and more…
they’ve got him doing crazy ish…
maybe that’s why he got AB in here…
he might feel he needs some guys to run his offense and for stability…
the rollercoaster has got to stop at some point before the playoffs

I believe Brady is trying to help this coaching staff understand not everything about his previous situation was bad. Preparation is coaching. Play calling is coaching. The attention to detail during the week is initiated by the coaches. All of that is relevant because the coaching staff prides itself on “putting players in position to do what they do well!”
Brady can still throw deep. However, he is surgical in the short, intermediate passing game. BA needs to relinquish the need to run his offense and defer to what Brady is comfortable doing. Rojo is ready for 20+ carries a game, play action will make Mike, Chris, Gronk, AB and Brate even more dangerous. This is not that difficult.
