Inside The Execution Failures
November 27th, 2020Likely the greatest NFL analyst you’re not listening to had plenty to say about the Buccaneers and Tom Brady today.
Joe is referring to a renowned quarterback guru who knows the Bucs offense well, six-year NFL backup QB Jordan Palmer, Carson Palmer’s brother.
Palmer is as astute and smooth-talking as they come, and he does occasional fill-in work on SiriusXM NFL Radio.
Palmer says he sees Brady completely focused on the finish line of this season, completely disinterested in stats or any other accomplishment other than steady improvement, and Brady is being driven a little nuts by “the inability to execute simple things effectively.” That’s what happens when you have eye-popping talent and time together has limited the ridiculous precision Brady is used to.
Multiple misfirings between Brady and Antonio Brown are hard to decipher when it comes to assigning blame, per Palmer’s film study, and he said those misses are incredibly valuable reps that could pay off as early as Sunday.
Still, those and other simplistic misses are getting under the skin of the quarterback.
“I think the frustration that we’re seeing [from Brady] is new, this level of frustration,” Palmer said, noting he’s studied it along with his QB students. “But I think it’s just because he’s just trying to keep it simple and solve for issues that will allow them to get into the playoffs. And once they get there, that’s when your team has to play great.”
The Bucs’ offense getting on track, per Palmer, has nothing to do with talent and everything to do with basic execution that he believes will come. “They definitely, of any team in the NFL, have the firepower to go toe-to-toe with Kansas City,” he said.
So when will the Bucs fine tune their offensive machine loaded with Pro Bowlers?
Joe and Sage JoeBucsFan.com columnist Ira Kaufman have very clear ideas, as you can hear in the new Ira Kaufman Podcast below, presented by Bill Currie Ford.

You’d think it was fine tuned by now but remember, Brady was 20 years with New England.

You need a ticket if you want a chance. I have us penciled for a loss this weekend. Hoping otherwise. They need 3 wins in their last 4 to almost guarantee a playoff spot. Looking at playoff match-ups and given Brady’s struggles against good pass rushes, would it be all that bad to go against GB or Seattle? Both of their defenses are underwhelming (although Brady would have to play in the cold).
Washington’s defense is rising with a good pass rush. Either way, assuming the Bucs make the playoffs and win in the first round, they would have another date with the Saints. It’s looking rough, but winning a championship is never easy. I’m hoping Palmer is right. Fix the kinks now and let Brady dink and dunk on defenses come playoff time. Lull teams into attacking short and medium routes so hopefully Brady can hit wide open guys downfield.

Bucs win. Beat KC. Problems solved. Ledge dwellers take a step back.

I call horsepuckey on Palmer. He’s making excuses for Brady based on pure speculation … no facts to back it up. For example, he says that Brady is being driven nuts by “the inability to execute simple things effectively.” Problem is … TB’s the one who’s falling short when it comes to accuracy, etc.
Palmer seems convinced that Brady is “trying to keep it simple and solve for issues that will allow them to get into the playoffs.” Horsepuckey again. TB wants to win EVERY GAME. Going 0-for-22 in his last deep passes is anything but ‘trying to keep it simple’. Running the ball only 5 times in the Saints game wasn’t ‘trying to keep it simple’ either. Call it like it is: lousy game planning and play-calling that doesn’t play to your QB’s strengths & weaknesses.
Interesting question that y’all laid out: “So when will the Bucs fine tune their offensive machine loaded with Pro Bowlers?” My answer: when this coaching staff & Tom Brady get on the same page, admit what his 43-year-old strengths & weaknesses are, and start game-planning & play-calling accordingly. Until then it’s all nothing but excuses.

The team does have an execution problem. A lot of it can be laid on Leftwich and his repeating playbook. I don’t see any adjustments to make the game go quicker when things go sideways. Things just fall apart them.

Very simple
Arians is trying to mold Brady, to fit his long ball strategy.
Brady is trying to adapt.
Brady is the greatest QB ever, at dissecting defenses.
6 Super Bowls
I dunno- meybe we should adapt more to Brady’ style and strengths?
Nah, lets try to change the Goat!
Buc Logic

Methuselah Brady lost the game. Only getting a field goal after the JPP pick? Throwing a long bomb downfield with no Buc within 5-10 yards of it? The GOAT fossil had plenty of time to throw and receivers open. It is not the first game he has hurt the Bucs with, either. I don’t watch these games. I like Bucs radio, and even I could hear the mistakes by Brady. The Bucs will beat KC. But, the Defense will have to lead. That will make up for brains farts by the two fossils: TB and BA.

@Defense Rules
It’s not only Brady though. RoJo has been running great but has dropped too many easy catches that kill drives. Fournette has been even worse in that regard. Add in some o-line penalties and drops from Gronk on critical downs, and there’s plenty of blame to go around. And that’s not even touching on the poor, predictable play calling.
So I think it’s very plausible that Brady is fed up and frustrated with those types of miscues, especially on seemingly simple plays like a RB pass.
But that does not excuse his own poor play at all either. His long balls have been atrocious. Those were some of the worst interceptions I’ve ever seen last week.

Craig Last year it was Jamies fault and now it’s the coaches fault because of Brady right ??? You refuse to admit that Brady is wash up . I told yall that Brady has not been good the past 2 years and yall said I didn’t know what I was talking about . Yall call me a Jamies fan . And that Brady would great with these weapons and I told yall that Mike numbers will drop and Godwin numbers would as well . But you told me that I was wrong and stupid remember ??? We will make the playoffs because we all of our wins came from bottom teams but 2 and both of their defenses is trash . We must win the superbowl it’s still superbowl or bust !!! Go bucs !!!
