Rams 27, Buccaneers 24

November 23rd, 2020

Gasp! The Bucs lost for multiple reasons tonight, but the kick in the gut is that poor quarterback play was a huge factor.

The Tom Brady Effect just wasn’t there — and he threw two ugly interceptions. That’s not what the Bucs signed up for.

The Bucs gave up on the running game inexplicably, and they seemed far too willing to play the deep-ball game that Brady isn’t very smooth with — yet they still put up 24 points on the best defense in the NFC.

What a maddening offense performance. The Bucs offense is good but it had/has so little rhythm, even while holding Aaron Donald in check.

Major love for the what the Bucs defense pulled off in the second half, giving the offense opportunity after opportunity, but even they couldn’t overcome their own ongoing issues of failing in zone coverage. Jared Goff and the Rams were 8-of-15 on third-down conversions. That’ll get you beat every time.

And the winning field goal was booted by Matt Gay.

What a torturing loss that sends the Bucs to 7-4 and almost out of the NFC South title race.

Tom Brady sucks after his 9:15 bedtime.

And really, Gay’s kick sealed it?

  2. Wesley Says:

Terrible game from Brady. However it’s the secondary and coaching staff that is holding this team back.

  3. Tampabuscsbro Says:

maybe instead of taking the day off tomorrow the coaches can come into the office and fix this Sh!t.

  4. 54sTheMike Says:

Wesley it’s ok to put the blame on white people. Stop scapegoating black people. Lovie, Winston, Donovan smith, Mike Evans recently and now Bowles and leftwich. Stop it

  5. gp Says:

Why do we bother keeping running backs on our roster(especially Fournette).
    We don’t use them!

  6. Wes Says:

“How can we follow up on Rojo’s near 200 yard performance last week? I got it! Let’s shackle him.”

  7. Coburn Says:

Too much zone early but clamped down. What I couldn’t figure out was yeah… Why give up on the tin, but also what happened to the tight ends? Felt like way too much trying to push it downfield and force it to brown. Kept calling for brate and Gronk. Was same as last week. Feel like teams have been giving them opportunities in the middle

  8. Rosadog Says:

    What happened to ROJO?

He had juice! Fournette with 3 drops !

Stay balanced and run ! Dummies!

  9. Asdf Says:

    We get consistently out coached.

Why did we stop running the ball in the middle of the game??

That fourth and 1 rolling Brady out?? Unreal

This team has too much talent for this

  10. Coburn Says:

And yeah Fournette is trash. Not sure why Vaughn isn’t active

  11. Bush's Coke Spoon Says:

Why, why, why, why, WHY are we throwing home run balls with a minute and a half left, and only down by three points??

  12. BCULAW Says:

Murphy Bunting is a problem. Play calling lacks rhythm and identity. Can someone tell Bowles to stop calling soft zone coverage and the Smith’s playbooks!!!!!!!!!!

  13. true biucfan Says:

I was wrong. Like most Buc fans I thought this team was on the verge of stringing together multiple titles. What was I thinking???

  14. Bangkok Buc Says:

Coaches should be in entry and running gassers. Brady sucked tonight but the coaching put us in the hole with terrible play calling.
1-10 on long passes with 2 pics. WTF is that???

  15. BUC CHEEKS Says:

That was so Gay!!! Screwing the BUCS once again!

  16. Wesley Says:

This offense hasn’t been the same since A.B..

  17. Miller5252 Says:

Crappy play calling killed them more then anything. And I really want to know where Rojo was in the second half? Did Donald steal his confidence??

  18. Asdf Says:

These deep shots are so dumb, especially with a non mobile QB in a game with a collapsing pocket.

    Bruce is too stubborn

  19. AlteredEgo Say: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

TB had been off the past few games… oh well.. the Rams defense was much more intense and hit harder than the Bucs… Bucs were out played flat and simple

  20. Coburn Says:

We had a lot of success throwing short passes early and for some bizarre resin we stopped. Lots of quick outs and stuff was working

  21. LVMYBUCS Says:

All this talent gone to waste

  22. Jaycorr Says:

Man that was heartbreaking!! Why keep going downfield he was horrible all game but yea lets keep doing it. Last play LF and ME where open he he woupd have just looked. He was just. Determined to throw into coverage with 5 Fu@$& guys there. He might be the goat but dam man he cost us that game

  23. Bucfan81 Says:

This team is going to look so dumb if they can’t even make the playoffs after signing all these big names players. Honestly I think BA and leftwhich suck. We need better coaches.

  24. PolkFan Says:

This game falls solely on Brady and the coaching. When Tom is pressured he plays about as good as my 6 month old niece at quarterback. Todd Bowles is a chicken shiz. He came out with the same gameplan he did against NOLA and guess what, we looked stupid. Another thing Leonard Fournette can drop 4 FOOTBALLS and still get the majority of the snaps from a guy that just had a 200 yd game. It’s asinine this coaching. A Qb needs to be taken with 1/2 in the draft please dear god.

  25. kgh4life Says:

too much deep passes, coaches should have ran more underneath routes.

  26. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Terrible play calling……not enough play action…..too many long passes…..

    Brady was off all night….

And….we absolutely could not run the ball or rush the passer…

  27. Warrenfb12 Says:

Stop Steve. Rams were terrible, practically handing the game to the Bucs. Talk about embarrassing to still lose with all this talent.

  28. BucfaninMi Says:

They should practice more. Zero chemistry on offense.

  29. Soggy Says:

At the end there Was lots of time left so don’t throw a long ball.. Who’s call was that?

  30. Leighroy Says:

Giving up on the run game is perfectly explainable, bc they flat out sucked at it. RBs couldn’t catch a ball either.

ME13 had another highlight for the y’all resume builder. Godwin too for that matter.

Joes, I’m willing to relent on “pressure.” Sure we got 1 INT from it but no sacks against a backup LT…. what gives when you’re a top 5 sacks team? The rams sure took advantage of our OL depth. Game over

  31. Black_Bond Says:

Davis is by far our best corner, but he has trouble with lateral quickness. Dean and SMB weren’t helpful at all. Pretty good safety play and Devin White was missing the whole game. JPP a freakin monster all day.

And we really miss Vita…absolutely no inside push at all.

Don’t be surprised if we draft Brady’s replacement first round in the draft. He’s clearly on his last legs.

  32. onlymylifematters Says:

The moronic Glazers latest pr stunt starting to crumble!

Hey Joe, how about an article about what a great job the bucs are doing wrecking any tie breaker hopes? Never mind, since the league is basically letting every team in the playoffs this year who cares.

it’s only going to get worse. you can’t gamble on senile a full of crap coach, retiree’s, washed up goats and a totally overrated defense to bail out a 2 decade playoff win drought. sorry nice try. please deposit 25 cents and try again next year Gazers. oh and don’t forget to blame covid.

Maybe one day the league will lower the standards enough for the bucs to contend.

  33. Jmart2470 Says:

Can point to a ton of reasons why we lost. But that stupid 30 yard play that got Rams a FG before halftime sticks in my head.

  34. Godlovesbucs Says:

Same d scheme vs saints and same result. Why allow some of the most accurate short passing qbs to throw 5 yard passes over the middle? Force goff to throw 15+ to woods and kupp. And brady looked terrible, he should have had 2 more int, but he got lucky. Are they out of rhythm because of brown?

  35. Leslie OPYD Says:

Fire bl. ! No imagination bad play call ba does not play to bradys streanth. You have the blueprint for 6 super bowls and you push down field all the time? Your out dated

  36. LVMYBUCS Says:

Bill Belacheck would win a super bowl with this team. We have a has been qb as a coach and a suspect secondary.

  37. Cobraboy Says:

Pretty much what I expected, a Rams D that was just too much for the Bucs, and a Rams O that picked the D apart with the short stuff.

Bucs are *maybe* the 4th-5th best team in the conference. Too bad the D line is flat worn out, JPP aside, and good thing The Invisible Shaq was on a one-year dealio because he’s been, well, Invisible.

  38. Rosadog Says:

    What happened to ROJO?

No excuse! Fournette is his back up!

  39. onlymylifematters Says:

    Godlovesbucs

God Loves the Bucs, no he doesn’t the record books prove that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

  40. Razor Ramone Says:

You just knew Gay would win it.

  41. BUC CHEEKS Says:

I think the play calling is appalling!!! Sort it out!!!!!

  42. VA Tom Says:

The Bucs gave up on the running game? WTF were you watching? Fornette 1yd on 1st down all night. Then what? 1 down on 2nd? You guys are daft.

  43. Jmart2470 Says:

it definitely looked like large parts of the game were dedicated to keeping Brown happy.

  44. Jaycorr Says:

And one more thing this team will not be going to the superbowl no way not this year. So tired of getting my hopes up and the such a letdown. Man im just shocked. Where the F was Rojo??? Where was a slant??? A couple crossing routes??? Nothing but deep shots!! That on Brady or Coaches??? IDFK anymore. 7-5 here we come. Chiefs are gonna roll us sorry to say

  45. Bush's Coke Spoon Says:

At least the defense gave us a chance in the second half. If they could learn to play zone, it would be outstanding.

  46. gp Says:

Fournette needs a one way ticket back to Jax

  47. Cobraboy Says:

Not at all impressed with Leftwich, period.

I don’t expect any miracle D turnaround for the Bucs against the Chefs. With a few exceptions, this D is not getting it done for 60 minutes. I don’t understand how they are a Top 3-4 D in the league.

  48. RCK Says:

Out coached yet again. All this fire power and a staff that can’t find a way to use it creatively. If Andy Reed or Sean McVay had this offense we would be putting up 40 or 50 pts a game. Let’s keep waiting until the third to play agressive on defense. This one is on the coaches. PERIOD!

  49. ModHairKen Says:

    Rather be Succop than Gay.

  50. Mike Johnson Says:

One thing has been made crystal clear…Our Bucs are gonna be home with the rest of us watching the Superbowl. I can tell you all 10-6 will not make a wildcard. The league simply has too many good teams. I said 9-7 at the beginning of the year and I am on target. We will be 7-5 after..the upcoming loss to the Chiefs. Buclife baby.

  51. EA Says:

The one thing missing here that Brady has always had in new England is a good offensive line, with bad O-line play Brady was below average tonight, heck Winston could have scrambled out of pocket and made more plays than Brady, which he did last year when he beat the Rams.
We made fun of Winston for not having a deep throw….guess what…neither does Brady.
Brady was supposed to be the lead-by-example guy but with the subpar play in the recent games I wouldn’t be surprised if he loses the respect oh his teammates.

  52. Patrick Says:

All this complaining about Brady and we’re still 7-4. Y’all are really something else; go be a Saints fan and watch “America’s 3rd string QB” if you really miss him that much.

  53. firethecannons Says:

defense zone coverage vs the rams did not work why did it take almost 3 full quarters to figure that out? why didn’t we spend money on cornerback in FA? Fournette is not worth keeping another season. Our O-Line is beat up yet their defense is intact and they are good. Damn our secondary looks so bad in zone. Regardless Tom Brady lost this game. Good for JPP.

  54. Bojim Says:

I dont think Tom forced it to AB enough.

  55. firethecannons Says:

Just read Patricks note no thanks to Jameis, Brady lost the game but he is way better than Jameis

  56. Frank Pillow Says:

Let’s be honest 23 and 35 are huge liabilities right now. Patty M is going to light this group up. I mean, the last play before the half was the difference in the game. That was simply inexcusable.

On the other side of the ball, 12 was bad, but only b/c BA and BL decided to simply dust off a vintage game plan from their Big Ben era in Pittsburgh. 12 has never been that kind of QB. Never will be. His arm is not what it was six or seven weeks ago and if you really pay attention you can see him wearing down. The biggest crime tonight was how BA and BL made the Rams DCs job simple. The 3rd Qtr output was horrific. Not taking advantage of the turnover and scoring a TD was pathetic. Where’s the short to intermediate passing game? Where’s 27 and the running game? What happened to living off of play action?

76 remains a huge liability too. This team isn’t equipped to hang with the big boys—it just isn’t.

  57. Bobby Says:

Any QB would look bad with that kind of pressure. I agree though, why not take the short passes and just move the ball into field goal range before taking the deep shot?? Just poor play calling. Brady was definitely off but so was Goff when we started to pressure him. It was a game we should have won.

  58. Bush's Coke Spoon Says:

    VA Tom Says:
“Fornette 1yd on 1st down all night. Then what? 1 down on 2nd?”
    .
    .

And then, I don’t know if Leftfoot bothered to run one play action to take advantage of it.

  59. Davenport Says:

Blaming AB? come on guys! The runs good routes, gets open and catches everything. He’s a problem?

Blame Arians, Leftwich and Bowles. Its the coaches that run the game… and they are not up the task. I think Arians is no longer into it. Wouldn’t be surprised if he retires after the season.

  60. Bush's Coke Spoon Says:

    ModHairKen Says:
    “Rather be Succop than Gay.”
    .
    .

    Gay’s eating a W right now.

  61. adam from ny Says:

    team’s lookin’ kinda drained…

and a bit out of steam in a covid sports world with basically no fans…

might they be getting bored and tired of playing glorified scrimmages ???????

  62. Rod Munch Says:

I remember last year when the offense put up 55 against the Rams defense…

    Good times.

  63. Buczilla Says:

It’s going to be a long week and I was not expecting this bad of a game from Brady either. Still, at 7-4 our chances for making the playoffs look damn good.

  64. Cobraboy Says:

The Rams did what the Rams do: stuff the run and rush the crap out of the QB . Winning football.

The Rams lead the league in sacks and pressures. And it showed.

Could a healthy Marpet have made a difference? Hard to tell.

I do not entirely blame Brady for the long passes. Fact is the Rams crashed the middle of the O-Lone, and Brady rarely could set for the deep ball. He was throwing long off his back foot.

Credit the Rams for the win. This is not entirely Brady’s fault. Every QB will succumb to pressure; that’s why you rush the QB! Duh!

And Mr. Fournette: 3 drops at critical junctures? Hell, RoJo can do that. You were brought as a threat out of the backfield, dude. Now I see why even the Jags gave you the hook.

  65. Oneilbuc Says:

Cobraboy I thought Brady was the goat ? I told yall that Brady only plays well against bad defenses . Stop blaming Leftwich or Bruce Arians. Remember if this was Jamies yall will be blaming him and not the coaches. So come with the same energy yall had with Jamies . But Jamies put up 45 points against this same team .

  66. Cobraboy Says:

@Oneilbucs: neither team is the same from last year. Fact.

Pull your head out of ATM’s ass for once.

In my world “criticizing” is not “blaming.” “Criticizing” is analysis, something you loyal Winston felchers know nothing about because you can not or will not criticize Mr. 30/30.

  67. Cobraboy Says:

FTR: I never expected the Bucs to beat the Rams.
