What About Landing A Restricted Free Agent?

March 7th, 2010

Pat Kirwan of NFL.com thinks the Bucs may look at Colts defensive tackle Daniel Muir as a restricted free agent.

Mark Dominik made it crystal clear in his chat with the dean of Tampa Bay sports radio, “The Big Dog,” Steve Duemig, that the Bucs were not reaching out to unrestricted free agents.

What about restricted free agents? Pat Kirwan has a hunch, yes.

In his recent column on NFL.com, Kirwan even thought Colts defensive tackle Daniel Muir might be on the Bucs’ radar.

There are three teams with multiple second-round picks, the Kansas City Chiefs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Patriots. Would they be willing to give up one of those picks for a young starter at a position of need?

The Chiefs may be looking for a safety, and a player such as Melvin Bullitt is on this list. Need a running back? Jerious Norwood, Pierre Thomas and Jerome Harrison are on the second-round compensation list.

The Buccaneers need defensive line help, and they may find the Indianapolis Colts’ Daniel Muir interesting after the season he produced in 2009.

Joe isn’t so sure about Muir, but he may be worth a cheap gamble. In 10 starts and 16 games last season, Muir wasn’t much for sacks, credited with just one-half sack. The third-year player our of Kent State had 42 tackles and 10 assists.

don’t waste a draft pick on this guy

    adam,

Do your homework. 100% of the money Tim Tebow raised goes to the Tim Tebow Foundation that helps underpriveledged kids. When was the last time YOU spent an entire Saturday giving your time to help others? My guess is …never. Stop hating someone just because he makes you realize how little you do for others.

Chucky is still being paid a handsome, seven-figure salary by Bryan and Joel. Joe doesn’t believe Chucky will have to grovel to the Glazer Family Foundation any time soon for grocery assistance.

I don’t know about Daniel Muir, but I’d give up a second rounder for the Panthers CB Richard Marsharll. Too bad our 2nd round pick is #3. I think it’s too good of a pick. If only we have a 2nd rounder in the 15-25 range, Marshall is a great young CB, and best of all we’d be stealing him from a divisional rival.

THE BUCS ARE NOT GIVING UP ANY PICKS. THEY NEED ALL THE HELP THEY CAN GET. I THINK THE GM MEANT ALL FREE AGENTS. SO THAT THOUGHT IS DOWN THE TUBES

An uncapped year means no salary floor which means are glorious owners arent spending crap!! Period!! They suck and as a result so does our team!!

Guys we are “building through the draft”. Come on now. Get used to hearing that tag line. The problem with that sole mind set is. What are truly building. The Bucs are aweful at making draft picks. They seemed to get “punked” more often than not.

We are waiting for the “2nd wave”…

Lets just face it we are not doing shit in free agency. I go to this site every day hoping they make one move to improve our team and its not gonna happen its really depressing. Just one move please guys! Something to give us a little hope! Even with our draft this year does any1 see us going anywhere?

glad to hear the money is donated to the foundation….i figured it was very unlike tebow….as i actually do like the guy…i read the story on aol’s home page first thing this morning and there was absolutely no mention of charity…they made it seem like tim was getting his first big payday as a pro…even charged a 95 year old lady 210 dollars for a pic and autograph…they made it seem like his first payday since he couldnt take pay for florida #15 jersey sales or autographs as its against collegiate rules….i really did think it was un-tebow like….i really should have wrote “look what i just read”…..my bad….i still wish that tebow can fall to the bucs and we figure out away to use him in conjunction with freebird…but that probably wont happen….and ACe, dont take my commentary so to heart, as even when i slam someone, it is in somewhat of a whimsical manner….adam from ny

    Adam,

Explanation accepted. Since I live outside Jacksonville, I have been following Tebow since he was a sophmore in high school, so I am a really big fan. He is genuinely as good a person as he seems. None of it is a act. Even as a fan, I have serious concerns of his ability to be a Pro quarterback. I hope he proves the world wrong. And, yes, I would love for the Bucs to draft him, I just don’t think he’ll last to the third round. I couldn’t see Tampa even considering him before then.

I have a suggestion, our owners and our management staff can appear at midfield

if you read the commentary on here often, i have been pushing for the bucs to draft him and people slam me for it….i joke around a lot, so take my negative commentary with a grain of salt as its sort of playful…i have been saying all along take a shot at the kid….figure out a way to use him with freeman…..develop 2 quarterbacks if necessary as teams need a good second quarterback anyway…tebow could be a qb/x-factor type player……and even if he isnt a great pro, the team will be tebow-riffic with merchandising and public relations with him…..i know the bucs have pressing needs and have to address them in the second round……but if somehow they move up to draft suh #1 and draft tebow……the hoopla surrounding the team would be insane….im not saying that will translate to immediate wins and fill all the holes on the team, but it will most certainly create a huge buzz in bucland like back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s…..im not sure if you have ever been by ray jay since you are up in jacksonville, but if the stadium was sporting top to bottom pictures of suh and tebow on dale mabry in uniform, along with the usual suspects (winslow, ruud, freeman, ronde, etc)…..it would bring legit star power back to the franchise and ticket sales would go through the roof…..adam from ny

ps im not saying it would quickly translate to wins, but it would be a legitimate start to something

  18. adam Says:

also drafting tebow solves the bucs problem of paying 30 mil extra to suh if they move up to the first pic….between all the merchandising and tickets sales the 2 would cause, it would actually off set the money spent over the next 2 seasons…so i would go after suh and tebow and fill all the holes as best as we can….we havent had draft success most of the time anyway…so take suh and tebow….then hopefully the glazers sell man u….sprinkle in a few decent draft picks and sprinkle in a few more free agents over the next couple years as well with man u money….and all of a suddent we have a team that competes with legit star power to boot…something to think about….adam from ny
