No Messing With RBs

November 15th, 2020

Faith.

It seems for the duration of the season, your No. 1 Bucs running back is Ronald Jones.

Leonard Fournette will come off the bench and largely be a one-down kind of guy. Arians was asked Friday if he was inclined to replace RoJo with Fournette and see Fournette get more touches after two straight games of seeing his offense struggle?

Ain’t happening, Arians said.

“No. I think RoJo has played really, really well,” Arians said. “He hasn’t done anything to lose the job – he dropped one screen pass. I like the way the tandem’s working.

“When Leonard’s in there, we don’t take him out – he stays in on third down – he is the third-down back. I think he has part of that role already and it’s just [about] who has the hot hand.”

RoJo came out of nowhere to be among the league leaders in rushing. Good for RoJo! He’s currently ninth in the NFL with 538 yards. But in the past two weeks, he’s tailed off with little work. During the Saints Seal-Clubbing, how could you do anything when your coach/offensive coordinator calls a grand total of four handoffs?

Joe doesn’t know if defenses have started keying on Jones or not. It wouldn’t be a surprise.

If RoJo can get hot again, look for this offense to take off like an AtlasV rocket.

    “Seal-Clubbing” sums it up…

  2. Pablo Says:

Our running game actually sucks when we take Ronald out the game

I prefer Fournette. He catches better and breaks tackles.

But in fairness, Rojo looked good early. He was the definition of “moving the pile”

It looks like Shady McCoy was a waste of money

Senor harry – I generally prefer Fournette too. Rojo has never taken anything to the house a day in his life in the pros. Fournette has a habit of doing that. However, I do think Rojo might be running a little tougher this yr. Fournette hasn’t been bowling over people like he was in Jax, not even close to what he was his first two yrs in the league actually. Frankly if we were getting the rookie yr Fournette or second yr Fournette – Jones should never see the field because THAT Fournette was a top 5 running back. I think if Fournette was that special kind of guy then he would’ve distinguished himself, and to me it’s be more of an 80/20 split like Kamara and latavius Murray. I also doubt Jax would have been so quick to let him go if he was still a special player. As of now, I agree with Arians, I think they’re both about even

@BA … “I like the way the tandem’s working.” Yup, nothing spells ‘SUCCESS’ like 29 rushes in the past 2 games for 89 yards (3.0 YPC) from 2 of the premier RBs in the NFL. I’m impressed … unfavorably.

  7. SOEbuc Says:

Their scheme has been trash for Fournette. They never put him in eye formation on handoffs, always the shotgun and he can never get enough momentum to get through to find a hole or use his power.

  8. SOEbuc Says:

    Senor

He did have nice runs at the beginning AND THEN THEY DIDN’T USE HIM THE REST OF THE FIRST HALF! Went to bed at halftime so I don’t know what those two looked like in the second half.

  9. Bradinator Says:

Better with RoJo. Fournette folds when someone touches him. RoJo works harder to get the extra yards.

  10. gotbbucs Says:

Fournette was a waste of money. He’s saving himself for free agency.

  11. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

@Gofortheface, I completely agree with everything you said. I was hoping for the early years Fournette; maybe that will still come around. Lets hope, bc even tho they are both “good”, neither of them gets me excited for a dominating RB in the playoffs.

@SOEbuc, in reading comments in here, it sounds like most of us turned it off at the same time – first and. goal at the one, then came out with NO POINTS!!!! Its a Yucs life!

Seems like the running game has sputtered since Rojo stopped getting his heavy workload of 20 carries. Some fb’s, MANY fb’s need to be fed to heat up. Rojo is one of those guys. If you just feed the guy he will produce like crazy. If you just sprinkle him in he gets cold.

I liked the Fournette signing for depth and spelling rojo but it was clear to start the season ROJO was feeling it. I wish they would just unleash him.

  13. BucEmUp Says:

    RB’s not FB’s

  14. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I always believed in Ronald Jones. Unlike certain persons who kept wanting us to replace him.

    What D.R. just said.

I like ROJO and don’t mind him starting but I’d like to see Fournette get way more reps and then go with the hot hand.
