Lavonte David Talks “Pissed” Bucs, “Pressing” Bucs

November 9th, 2020

About that mess last night on Sunday Night Football, Buccaneers captain Lavonte David weighed in this afternoon.

The longest tenured Buccaneer said it was a “humbling” night and openly suspected the Bucs reacting to an “unfamiliar situation.” Joe presumes that means a huge game on national television.

“Everybody was just pressing to be perfect,” David said.

As for his teammates, David spoke about their current mindset after a 38-3 humiliation to the Saints.

“Guys were pissed,” David said. “You seen it on the sidelines, you seen it today [and] you seen it after the game.

“Guys were pissed because we know we’re not that type of team, especially against a team who we obviously wanted to really beat. And then go out there and put on a show like that on Sunday night – you know, guys feel some type of way about it. All you can do is move on from it. It’ll show how we prevail from it this week. Like I said, you know, we’re focusing on the Carolina Panthers right now; they’re a pretty good football team with some talented weapons. So a lot of guys took it to heart yesterday and we came in today, and the good thing about it is I didn’t have to go to nobody. Guys were coming to me, you know, ‘That’s unacceptable. We can’t have [a] performance like that again. We gotta find a way to get better.’ That’s going to start this upcoming week and I’m really excited to get to work this week, move on from last week and get back going.”

Joe’s glad the Bucs were upset. Joe’s heard that in past years. Hopefully it means something this time around.

David complimented the Panthers, but the reality is they’ve lost four straight games and are reeling but battling. They’re also a miserable 1-3 at home in Charlotte, where the Bucs will head on Sunday.

Ok so we finish 10-6. Where is that superbowl hype bucs pushed with brady? I don’t think we get there fellow buc fans. You don’t want to hear this. But the saints, seahawks and quite a few others are way ahead of us. Playoffs? Maybeee a wild card appearance. And thats just a hope and a prayer. Face the music..saints own us 2-zip.

  2. ModHairKen Says:

“Everybody was just pressing to be perfect.”

Huh. That may be the sorriest excuse I’ve ever heard.

  3. ArmchairGM Says:

This game was lost in the trenches. O line and D line got pushed around. Haeg played okay, but I think people are missing that because he was inside, we didn’t have a 6th tackle for max protect. Gronk has a shoulder injury and it’s showing up in his blocking. Brady has always had trouble against good pass rushes and the Saints lived in the Bucs back field.

  4. Will Says:

If that’s what it looks like when you’re trying to play perfect I’d hate to see what they play like if no one cared. Smh

  5. Bucsfanman Says:

Mike- I think most fans would be elated to be in the playoffs. The SB?! Man, please! That’s icing on the cake.
We got exposed in several areas last night and I fully expect some cleaning up.
There are a few teams that are better than us, and that’s OK. There can be only ONE champion. Know THIS; we are in better position this year than at any other time in our recent history.

  6. Rayjay1122 Says:

10-6 may be generous at this point.

  7. WillieG Says:

Didn’t the Bucs get their arses handed to them by the Raiders the year they met the Rams in the NFC Championship game? And wasn’t the score even worse than last nights? It was something like 45-0, if I remember correctly.

Anyway, the point is, they recovered and almost made it to the Super Bowl, so there’s no reason to think the current Bucs can’t do likewise.

  8. bojim Says:

We don’t do well on national TV. I was pissed too. We need to beat the Panthers decisively.

  9. Rayjay1122 Says:

We could very easily limp into the bye at 6-6

  10. Robert Says:

should be pissed….at Bowles and Lefty. need to have a team metting and tell them WTF kind of game plan was that. made the team look like idiots.

  11. Robert Says:

    meeting

  12. alaskabuc Says:

Falcons just cut Takk- Would like to see us make a run at getting pass rush help we should have focused on this off-season

  13. Robert Says:

flash backs to the beatings the Colts used to put on us every time and they would never deviate from the Tampa 2 even knowing Manning would shred them. They should have played man and put Brees on his arse and got in his face like Suh did Rodgers……but no……..the coaches thought the team was invincible. only reason NE was as good as they were was because they changed their plan to match their opponents.

  14. 813bucboi Says:

    12-4…

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  15. VABucsfan Says:

Say what you want about Koetter, but at least he was .500 against the stupid Saints as Bucs HC. BA is a big fat 0-4 against them!

  16. Pewter Power Says:

Who cares you should be upset your team looks like trash any time your on prime time. Nobody really cares, beating the panthers means nothing. You had one chance and you blew, did Gerald McCoy give the pre game speech?

  17. crazyBucs_CL Says:

@”Guys were pissed because we know we’re not that type of team…”
ooo yes you are. It showed with Giants…. that was not a fluke…Saint are not super team…. and yet they destroy us.
Now we know who we are, and we are not SB team, not even PO team….SAD..

  18. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

The Panthers have McCafferty back, and played the mighty Chiefs within an inch of their life.
Our next game is anything but a Given.

  19. crazyBucs_CL Says:

…im not sure if we can compete with any of our division’s team. Let along beating them. I’m dead serious….Bucs are collapsed…..

  20. D-Rome Says:

If it’s any consolation, over the past 20 years the 2014 Patriots, 2012 Ravens, the 2003 Patriots all suffered blowout losses of 28 or more points. Still, the overwhelming majority of Super Bowl winning teams did not get their doors blown off like that.

  21. crazyBucs_CL Says:

it is ONLY one possibility that we can have hope, and that is if they did “Point shaving”…..BUT we know that is not true, so that brings us to the true conclusion – we have a bad team, follow by a very bad coaching staffs….
it was not a single sector that play pro football last night….and that is scary…

  22. Defense Rules Says:

Lavonte David … ““Everybody was just pressing to be perfect.”

Not to quibble Lavonte, but that was a miserable impression of ‘pressing to be perfect’ and a terrible excuse. Every one of you got your arses whooped, big time. It seems obvious that the Saints have gotten to know the Bucs much better than the Bucs have gotten to know the Saints.

Oh and no more national TV games for you guys.

  23. Tampabaybucfan Says:

How about just pressing to be halfway decent and EARN YOUR MONEY!!!

I’m OK because I have never posted about going to the SB…..I am simply hopeful we make it to the playoffs….and I don’t care if we are 7-9 and get there….just get there….then anything can happen.

  24. Mr. B Says:

I’ll say this , No time to panic yet but our coaches were badly outclassed. And someone might want to stop Arians from challenging plays that can’t be overturned!

  25. Coburn Says:

Shouldn’t they have come out pissed after half time… If not after the first quarter down a couple scores?

  26. BucEmUp Says:

Why did love and Smitty fail? Because they ran too much zone coverage and never blitzed. What worked against the raiders and the packers? Man coverage and blitzing. What did Bowles depot against our biggest rival? ZONE COVERAGE WITH NO BLITZING!!!!!!!!

    Leftwich is another thread….

  27. UKbuccaneer Says:

Guys writing the season off as lost? Weak fanbase. Last nights game is forgotten already. On to Carolina.

  28. Frank Pillow Says:

The most alarming thing about this loss is that effort didn’t seem to be the issue- outside of the usual culprit (looking at you 76). The Xs and Os were abysmal and the overall situational awareness (and overall performance) of #’s 35 and 23 was very poor, again. We were simply out classed, out coached and out muscled by a better organization.

  29. ClwJB Says:

The game plan was horrible in all 3 phases and the players lack of energy showed it clearly- we did the complete opposite of what we should have

Run the ball early and often and use our weapons in play action

Blitz Brees in his face and knock off his timing on their short game, run blitz Kamara often

We did neither nor tried too and they knew it

This one is completely on the staff

  30. Scot pederson Says:

Bucs secondary was exposed by the chargers. I fault the coaching staff for not planning a game of fgs. We should have gone all out on brees from the start because we cant cover for 3 seconds. No run game holes either.

  31. Architek Says:

They were beaten into submission; I’m sure they were pissed….

    Smh

And the play-callers should be as well!

  32. Bucamania Says:

They were pissed AFTER the game. Yeah we need you to be pissed DURING the game.

  33. REDZONE BA Says:

I’m a little worried about L David’s KNEE following that straight-leg landing, which can result in a potential ACL injury. Called hyper-extension for now.

But Lavonte came back and played well. But keep an eye on that knee. Stay safe LD!

  34. PuertoRicanBucFan Says:

I dont blame the players 1 bit. This coaching staff isn’t much better than what Lovie Smith brought to town. Most overrated coaches i have ever seen in my life. We looked Tennessee ready

  35. Karma Says:

The problem was the offense was offensive..they tried to force to AB and got exposed looking for big plays.

You needed to run on 1st and 2nd downs as they were bringing heat. You kept trying to force it deep and forgot about shallow and intermediate high percentage throws.

Shoulda kept Godwin on the bench and let AB n Evans work off of each other. Woulda coulda shoulda…it’s overreaction Monday.

We will make more mistakes as this is an art more than a science and sharpen our process on both sides of the ball.

  36. Rod Munch Says:

Talk means nothing – literally nothing. Lets see what they do next week – because that does mean something.

  37. August 1976 Buc Says:

The coaches need to set them up for success with how they scheme. The Saint game was plain and simply bad on both sides. It was like they played to the Saints strength and not theirs. On Ofense, help the line out and get the ball out of Brady’s hand. On Defense,What about press coverage and getting in their faces at the line of scrimmage and knocking WR’s off their routes and screwing up timing. Take off the brakes and go for it. Hey Todd PRESSURE PRESSURE PRESSURE the QB, please go back to your roots. GO BUCS!!!!

  38. Ryan Jensen’s Hair Says:

Oh quit the crying. Adversity is part of the game. On to next week.

  39. Macko Says:

Why wait till this game to dial back the blitz packages! Our secondary feeds off of the blitz up front. Trying to sit back in zone and cover against Brees will not work! Giving him time in the pocket will almost guarantee you a lost every time! Brady was pressured heavily on every play, saints knew he would have to be and it worked to perfection! Great game plan by the Saints, poor game plan by the Bucs. Shake this one off and move on! GO BUCS!!

  40. TOM Says:

Oh! thats funny. Now they’re pissed. Thanks David I needed a good laugh. BA has taught you well.
