“He’s Sore”

November 9th, 2020

The close-up, slow-motion pregame shots of Chris Godwin trying to catch passes in warm-ups last night were something to behold from the NBC cameras.

It was obvious that Godwin was trying to protect his surgically-repaired broken finger on his left hand. Yeah, the finger was protected, but Godwin was going the extra mile to prevent impact. It almost seemed to be bizarrely instinctive motion when slowed down.

Not two weeks after surgery, Godwin played against New Orleans and caught three balls for 41 yards on six targets.

Joe asked Bucco Bruce Arians today about how Godwin came out of the game and whether his hand was an issue.

“I didn’t think it affected him at all,” Arians said. “He tried to stretch out and get that one crossing route and that might have been the only one [in which] it bothered him. He’s sore. We probably won’t throw to him again until Friday. But he got it up and gave us a great performance so we just got to make sure we’re taking care of him.”

Joe thinks this is great news, in part because Arians didn’t mention Godwin’s hamstring, which also has been on the mend.

If Godwin can catch well on Friday, Joe suspects a more real version of Godwin will emerge against the Panthers. Godwin missed the Bucs-Panthers game in September with a concussion.

Godwin should not have been out there. He needs to rest that hand. can’t say I blame him though as this is a $$ year for him….thats on the coaches.

  2. D-Rome Says:

I haven’t seen an old school Dikembe Mutombo jersey in at least 20 years.

  3. 813bucboi Says:

even with a healthy godwin, oj, VV and marpet,if BA,BL and bowles dont show up and have this team ready to go it wont matter….

they had no sense of urgency….

    GO BUCS!!!!

That Nuggets jersey was always one of my favorites.

  6. Robert Says:

did you guys see the pregame? he was using his little and ring finger to catch balls, understandably…….but his middle and index were not being used to catch balls…….and it showed when he didn’t stretch for a ball over the middle. not blaming him, just saying he should not have been out there. it’s on the coaches.

  7. Buc1987 Says:

This whole damn team should be sore after the butt whooping they took!

  8. Armybucfan Says:

What made me sick more than the lackluster game play was the fact that BA only had the bucs practice for 2 days to prep for this azs whooping that they rightfully deserved. We were out it played and our coached in every aspect of the game. Godwin should have never been on the game because what if he got hurt worse that would have been squarely on BA’s shoulders. After this game I’m not sure if we have a shot at super bowel.

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The whole team should have a “get out the vaseline” soreness…….

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Did anyone else hear the “Deliverance” music playing last night?

  11. previously Tampa 2 Says:

The whole team made their feelings felt last night, about AB being shoved down their throats by Brady & Arians. Both sides of the ball went out of their way to look a 100 times worse than they are. So, what ya gonna do about the locker room BA? AB isn’t wanted.

  12. Brad Says:

I would disagree Tampa 2. That’s Smiths typical game against the Saints. There’s a reason Cam Jordan tried to once lure back a FA (Okafor) by showing him that Smith re-upped with the Bucs. I think the quote was “eat 2x a year”.

  13. Brad Says:

you know what a good game plan would be? Leave Smith on an island and not run. Worked well against the Bears and for the prior 4 years..

  14. Eric Brierton Says:

Coaches got schooled last night 1: dont play zone defense against drew brees he wikl eat you alive…2: when your facing a pass rush like the saints have and you only have 2 seconds to get the ball out 35 yard bombs aint gonna cut it..screens and slant routes and quick passes are the name of the game..3: dont put a rookie against cam jordan to protect brady wtf…
What were these coaches thinking??? And they didnt adjust in second half

  15. SOEbuc Says:

Did we make a completion? I have to watch the games at my dad’s house I was gone at half time.

  16. SOEbuc Says:

This is the same stupid sh!t with these guys not getting in good shape and putting them on the field (obviously not Ali) and remain banged up. I said I wouldn’t mind if Godwin sat. Sure as hell not if I knew we weren’t going to score a TD.

  17. Jodibrown74 Says:

Tyler Johnson needs to play. Seems to catch every ball thrown his way

  18. Jodibrown74 Says:

Godwin should have a limited role while not being 100%. Tyler Johnson played in small role. No excuse why Evans is not getting the ball. Brady complained of not having weapons in NE, now he has all he needs but can’t get them the ball

  19. Anonymous Says:

    We got “Exposed”….truth be told!

  20. Ed Says:

Change up this offense the route tree is too vertical, quarterbacks need some easier reads when there is no protection

  21. August 1976 Buc Says:

Eric Brierton Says Totally agree and well said

NFL coaching, and coaching in general is about hiding your weaknesses and playing to your strengths. The Saints did that and the Bucs did not. Case in point, soft coverage and concede first downs- What? That plays into the hands of a Hall of Fame QB. Also the rush was strong for the Saints D line, so why stay with long developing plays instead of getting the ball out quick. This is on the Coaching big time, no way around it. Yes they have done well more than not, but the Aint game is not one of them. GO BUCS!!!!
