Kwon Alexander Lands In New Orleans

It is said that good NFL organizations get rid of players sooner rather than later, meaning before they lose their value.
Today, linebacker Kwon Alexander, the former Bucs Pro Bowler and 2015 fourth-round pick, was traded from the 49ers to the Saints for a conditional fifth-round draft pick.
Alexander continues to be injury-prone and has missed the last three games with a bad ankle. When Kwon plays, he’s usually quite productive, but he’s only played in 13 regular-season games since leaving the Bucs after an injury-plagued 2018 season.
A man once known as The Jameis of the Bucs defense is now a member of the Bucs’ biggest rival and a teammate of Tampa Bay’s former turnover-machine quarterback.
Both are just 26 years old.
It’s not long ago that those two guys were considered the future of the Bucs franchise. Man, the Bucs have come a long way in a short time.

I’ll never forget the game he had against the Falcons after his brother died. That play where he ran down Julio Jones and ripped the ball away from Juliio is one of the best individual defensive playes I’ve ever seen. It would be interesting to see how he might have responded to an actual real defensive coach like Bowles instead of the Smith brothers (Lovie and Mike). But definitely not at the price his contract says he’s worth.

Carson Wentz goes out and does this. Two interceptions, two fumbles, countless brutal decisions. Think about this: The Cowboys had forced three turnovers ALL YEAR. Wentz committed four before the third quarter was three minutes old. He became the first QB since Jameis Winston in 2016 with four turnovers against the Cowboys.
So glad we have Brady.

My recollection of Kwon, who I happened to like, was hit or miss with the Bucs and one of the reasons (salary cap issues contributed also) they let him go. The few SF games I’ve seen when he was on the field, he didn’t perform all that well – missed tackles, poor coverage, etc. I admit my assessment of his performance in SF is limited, but strange if he was playing good football, they’d trade him for a 5th round pick.

Kwon’s biggest problem while here IMO is that he wasn’t a true MLB, even though the Bucs insisted on using him there. Well, that and the fact that his availability sucked. In 6 years in the league, Kwon’s really only had one year in which he didn’t miss at least 25% of the games. That doesn’t spell ‘great availability’ to most teams; and it surely didn’t spell ‘worth every penny of his $13 mil a year contract’ to the 49ers. And since the 49ers will be paying almost twice that (about $24 mil) in dead Cap for him in 2020-2022, they’re probably regretting the day they signed him. Just a guess though.

Kwon was pretty fired up last year when they beat the bucs in the season opener, I can’t wait unit next Sunday when the bucs put a whooping on the saints.

The saints are bringing Kwon in just in time to take Tom Brady’s head off. Like what he did to Jameis last year.
This team gets more unlikeable by the second. Can’t wait to see Cam Jordan punch our running back again or one of the DBs to try to take our WR’s head off and not get flagged for it.

The Red Rooster is the most overrated linebacker in the NFL.
If you could buy him for what he’s worth, and sell him for what he *thinks* he’s worth, you could buy Amazon.
Maybe he can ride the pine with Winston and chat about how nobody loves them.

This defense would not be nearly as good as it is with Kwon Alexander on the team. Letting Kwon test free agency was one of Jason Licht’s best moves.

Eh Kwon may be overrated by some people but no need to personally diss the guy either. We have no idea what he thinks he’s worth or whether he has a big head or not. A lot of that is agent driven. Think of the average working person.many of us struggle with feelings of inadequacy or am I good enough? Imposter syndrome and whatnot. But when we go to an interview we are still hoping to get as much as possible right? From all accounts he has always been a great teammate and had a good attitude, loves the game… If he struggles with coverage and over pursues.. fine.. can replace him or prefer another guy.. doesn’t speak badly on him as a human.

Bucs knew what they were doing in getting rid of Kwon. He’s a matador. He misses more tackles than he makes. I wish he were playing next week

The fact that the Saints are collecting Buc castoffs doesn’t bode well for the future of that franchise.
They are headed towards dumpster fire status once Brees packs it in.

Brady is mad that he lost that first Saints game so he is not gonna let us lose this one. In fact, I expect us to beat the quite soundly. All they have is Kamara and we know how to stop running backs. BUT!!!! they have to start covering the pass to the backs in the flat.

I was a big Kwon fan too. Love the passion he plays when he does plays lol. I hope it does well just not when they play us lol.

Ugh… I hate this. Kwon is the type of guy who can run sideline to sideline, chase guys down from behind and make big plays. Yeah, he’ll miss a tackle here or there, but he was a pro-bowler for a reason. Any idiot that thinks this is good for the Bucs, well, they’re an idiot.
BTW, last year before he got hurt, the 49ers players were raving about him, saying he was the leader of that defense that ended up in the Super Bowl. This move stinks for the Bucs. Also the fact he only cost the Saints around $800k makes it worse. Heck, for $800k, the Bucs should have tried trading for him – that would be a hell of a 4 you could put out there and put JPP as a DE perhaps. Man, I didn’t realized that was all Kwon cost.
The good news is, I guess, is that Kwon’s salary goes up to $14m next year, so he’s not getting that from the Saints who will be in cap hell if Brees retires (or if he doesn’t retire).

Kwon plays with more passion than skill. I was surprised that the Niners would give him that type of money, especially with his hit or miss games. Glad he is no longer a Buc.

Kwon is a good guy, great motor, all around good player. I always liked Kwon. At the same time, your greatest ability is availability. Kwon missed so many games. There was no way the Bucs were ever going to pay him like the contract the 49ers gave him. I am glad for Kwon and his family that he got the big pay day, but also glad it is not affecting the Bucs cap space. So it turned out to be a win win situation. GO BUCS!!!!

Kwon is injury prone? I know a lot about injuries. I have been an eyewitness to many injuries miles away from the training room in my air conditioned office at the TBT. This guy will miraculously get better when it’s time to play the Bucs. They always do. Can’t speak for the other teams that the Aint’s play.

I remember the niners paying him way too much and thinking the Bucs were gonna have a hole to fill. Man did they fill that hole with the a player we all hoped Kwon would turn into. I liked Kwon, but man did we do the correct thing…. let him go and get David a monster standing next to him.

We should beat the Saints, I mean Chicago almost beat them, but just couldn’t generate much offense.
Kwon was a cheap pickup for the Saints, but we will deal with him.

Getting white to replace the cap hit kwon was is a great move. Just ask one of my all time favorites #47. He’s been a good gm this time he missed the mark and we got lucky.

Lynch basically gave him a 1-year deal – those who think Lynch made a bad deal again have no idea what you’re talking about. Kwon was playing excellent last season before he got hurt – and clearly wasn’t the same guy when he got back. His deal this year paid him less than $1m – so again, those who think Lynch got fleeced are dopes.
