When a spring picture of Ali Marpet running sprints at One Buc Palace emerged on the team website when Bucs quarterback/rookie camps were being held, Joe was quite surprised.
Marpet wasn’t supposed to be there. Veteran players weren’t supposed to arrive yet.
Joe figured either Marpet got special permission as the team union rep, was breaking the rules, or was rehabbing a minor injury. (Players can be at team facilities for rehab in the offseason.)
It turns out, Marpet had significant injury that required offseason hip surgery. Bucco Bruce Arians revealed it last week and Greg Auman of TheAthletic.com talked to Marpet about it.
“I don’t want to discuss how much pain I’ve had to deal with,” [Marpet] said. “I’ll just say I’ve dealt with stuff in the past, and it feels good that I’m not having to deal with the same sort of issues. As any offensive lineman goes, we all play through stuff. At the end of the day, you have to get your job done, and that’s been my mindset. There’s always stuff that doesn’t feel good.”
Joe already can hear the Jameis Winston defenders, “So last year Marpet was messed up, Cappa broke his arm, Dotson was worn out and the running backs were horrid.” Sorry, guys, that’s ancient history.
Joe’s so glad Marpet, 27, is feeling great. And it’s no surprise that it’s coinciding with his best Bucs season since he was drafted in Round 2 of the 2015 NFL Draft.
Tonight in New Jersey, Joe wants to see Marpet and friends put on a rushing clinic as the winds will swirl around 25 miles per hour on the Giants’ home turf.
Great preparation for playoff football — unless the Bucs lock up home field advantage through the Super Bowl!

Joe your wrong about the Jamies defenders. This just show how weak their excuses of winston being hurt are. Like I said it’s the nfl all players play hurt some injuries and surgeries we never hear about. Another excuse bites the dust.

Another thing these Bucs have are a number of guys that go out and play snap after snap. That availability is something special when it comes to continuity.
Smith, Marpet, Jenson, Cappa, Wifs, Gonk (*so far), and Brady on offense.
JPP, Suh, Gholston (more this year), Shaq, White, David, Davis, SMB, Winfield, and Whitehead on defense.
A large reason we are playing well.
This coaching staff and GM now finding guys that can be available.
Our GM and Coach (or Brady as we all might suspect) seeing that this might be a year that there are injuries to Godwin and Evans that linger, go get a guy in AB that can play every down. Now we still have elite availability at the WR position. It seems like a good move at this point. We will see in the long run – but I like it right now.
Go Bucs. All in is fine with me!

Well, so much for ‘One game at a time’; we’re now serving up ‘home field advantage’ (still unsure if that comes with fries or not). ASSUMING that we win the NFC South, that’s actually within reach Joe, ASSUMING that our key players stay healthy of course. Of course there’s only ONE 1st-Rnd bye this year since 7 teams from each conference will make the playoffs.
NFC East is woeful this year, and we’ve already beaten Green Bay in the NFC North (Chicago has a very good defense, but their offense doesn’t hack it). The NFC West is probably the NFC South’s biggest competitor when it comes to home field advantage this year. Seattle is 6-1 based on having a very good offense (as in #1), but their defense is circumspect. Arizona’s playing good ball (5-2), but I’d question their staying power (lost to the Lions &Panthers?). Rams (5-3) are a decent team, but they still have to play Seattle twice, plus the Bucs. San Fran (4-4) has beaten 3 weak teams plus the Rams, but they’re very up-and-down this year.
So yes, we have a chance to win home field advantage … in a year when the Super Bowl will be held on our home field no less. Oh ya, ASSUMING that we stay healthy & that we win the division & that Seattle messes up along the way. In years past, those would be HUGE ASSUMPTIONS. This year? One game at a time …

Joe is treating this Giants game as “cupcake”.
5 of the Giants’ games were decided late in the 4th quarter- including the Steelers and Rams games.
This game will not be a “cupcake” game and Bucs better execute without penalties and turnovers.

The truth:
• The offensive line was not as good last year. It’s not ancient history.
• Jameis made PLENTY of mistakes himself, but everything wasn’t his fault.
• Moving on was the right move, but I still wish the kid the best…so long as it does us no harm.
