Eric Dickerson Talks “Old-Ass” Tom Brady Making Hard MVP Push

A man who perhaps was the greatest running back of the 1980s, Eric Dickerson, was a Tom Brady skeptic this spring, summer and fall during his time before the FOX Sports cameras.
Last week, Dickerson came around completely.
“The old-ass man has proven me wrong,” Dickerson said on FS1.
All the obstacles Brady faced for a fast start didn’t matter, Dickerson explained, noting Brady’s perfect back-of-the-end-zone strike to Scotty Miller against the Raiders was icing on a chef-perfection cake.
Over his last five games, Brady has 15 touchdowns against 1 interceptions, and that pick is his only turnover.
“It’s almost like he’s playing 7-on-7 football when you watch him,” Dickerson raved.
He thinks Brady can make a strong MVP push (statistically speaking) against poor pass defenses in final quarter of season. The Bucs close the regular season with the Vikings, Lions and the Falcons twice.
Joe wouldn’t be stunned at all if Brady ended with 42 TDs and 8 picks. His career TD/INT ratio is better than 3 to 1.
In a funny moment, Dickerson reminded NFL fans that Brady is only rolling at his advanced age because he plays quarterback. “He ain’t going to be no running back at 43, for sure.”

Many of Brad’s values to the team are unquantifiable. He brings an aura of excellence with him – and it permeates the Bucs training areas. He is a true MVP.

Eric Dickerson was an awesome RB. It seems like he is not really thought of that much today. He was the 2nd RB to reach 2000 yards and had 2 other seasons with over 1800 yards. He was the Gold Standard for RB’s during the Mid 80’s. Great RB and definitely one of the best ever.

I think his teammates are more worried about a Brady a$$ chewing than the coaches yelling at them.

New Orleans, LA Rams, and KC have what seems to be decent defenses but none of those appear to have those elite defenses that hit quarterbacks 8 times in a game. I think it bodes well for Brady’s ability that even if he starts a little slowly in a few games moving forward that he will be able to pick apart a team by the end of the game and make plays as those defenses tire.
I would love the 42 TD and 8 Ints.
Friends always questioned me on why Brady was better than Jameis. I said that I suspected that he would be about 30 TDs and 4400 yards with only 12 interceptions and clearly not 12 fumbles and he would make his offensive line look better by making quick decisions sometimes to get rid of the ball.
Boy, have we really seen that last difference. He is not trying to win on 3rd and 5 in the 1st quarter if the play is not there (See Green Bay down 10 – 0). He throws it away and we punt. 300,000 Bucs fans gripe when then see that and us down 10-0. But this team is not out of it when they are down and although they will make mistakes, they make less mistakes than some past teams when down.
For me, I will split the difference with this Joe and suggest that he ends up with 36 TDs and 10 Ints and still about that 4400 yards.
We will hopefully be running the ball in the 4th quarter against the Giants, and Atlanta’s going forward like winning teams do.

lol Good question, Most likely not since said you asked that lol. As I am sure you remember Eric was the focus for the Rams offense, and QB was almost an after thought, or it seemed (Dieter Brock) lol. James Wilder was an absolute beast for the Bucs, fantastic all purpose back and my favorite RB the Bucs have ever had. But I would takin Eric over J- DUB in a heart beat.
BTW if things go well for the Bucs, Brady winning another MVP is a distinct possibility. But we shall see. GO BUCS!!!!!

Eric Dickerson was AWESOME. He ran over you, around you, THROUGH YOU! And he always did it Running straight up and down, all 6’3″ 220lbs of him. If he didn’t injure his neck (which prematurely ended his career) he probably would have set every record in the RB book.

I’m starting to worry about the falcons being dream killers!!! They’re obviously not going anywhere this year but all of a sudden there look like they can win games!! And the Vikings are hard to figure out!! They beat the Packers last night and looked pretty good doing it!! But their whole offense runs through the running back and that is the bucs specialty!!!….. I’m worried about our speed guys playing on the Giants crappy turf tonight!!!! NO INJURIES!!!!

I was in Soldier Field on 1/12/86 when the Bears shut out the Rams 24-0 in the NFC conference championship game, holding their team to only 130 total yards, while holding Dickerson to only 46 yards on 17 carries, and he fumbled twice. Their QB, the immortal Dieter Brock, was only 10 of 31 for 66 yards. By the late 3rd quarter, the crowd gave a standing ovation to the weather, because it started snowing the largest flakes I had ever seen.
The ’85 Bears’ defense shut out their first two playoff opponents, and then beat New England 46-10 in the SB. Three playoff teams had a total of 434 yards and 10 points against that defense!

Brady should win MVP.
The Bucs will soon be 6-2, leading NFC South, and 1 game out of 1st in NFC. Last year the Bucs were 2-6. The season was over.
This year the Chiefs and Seattle are 6-1. Last year 5-2. Their QBs are great but no player has been more valuable than TB12.

I think it’s Mahomes, Jameis Winston, Russell Wilson and Tom Brady in the “popular” conversation about MVP.
Mahomes has the advantage of being the most recent to do it…Wilson has done it in the past…but Brady has six rings and so he’ll get sentimental run the other two will not.
I like all three but in the end it won’t be just them…how will their teams play around them? Good D’s to back them up?

When I think of Dickerson, unfortunately, I also think of fumbles.
On a similar note, as much as we all loved watching Barry Sanders, he could be taken out of games. For every 25 carry 250 yard game, there’d be the 15 carry 30 yard game. I remember this because the Bucs used to split with the Lions regularly during the Perkins-Wyche-Dungy eras with similar numbers for Sanders.

Jameis Winston probably has the inside track so far. His zero interceptions at this point of the season is quite gaudy!
