Montana Expects Deep Playoff Run

Joe almost always refrains from calling park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting Bucs quarterback Tom Brady a farm animal like so many do.
The farm animal is supposed to represent someone who has no peer. In theory. Joe considers this same animal as a filthy, stinky creature that reminds Joe of a former Bucs safety who turned ‘rassler who personified the pain and torment of The Lost Decade.
Joe saw Joe Montana play his entire career. In this Joe’s eyes, Montana was and always will be the standard for quarterbacks (Roger Staubach or Terry Bradshaw might be Nos. 2 and 3, you pick which, then Brady). Never throwing a pick in a Super Bowl and winning every Super Bowl he played in (four) as Montana did is really something for Joe.
At any rate, Montana yesterday appeared on a show Joe never heard of before. This Mike Greenberg (no, not the Bucs’ accountant) of BSPN apparently has a radio show too and he had Montana on the air yesterday.
Greenberg asked Montana about Brady.
Mike Greenberg: When you watch what Tom Brady is doing now at the age of 43 in Tampa, playing as well as he ever has, what thoughts go through your mind watching him?
Joe Montana: I think it is great. It’s great for us old guys. So the old guys are still hanging in there. Tom is a great talent. People asked me what was going to happen when he got to Tampa. “Well, I don’t expect to see anything different.” I mean, look at what they have done for him down there. They gave him an opportunity that he was looking for, to have more say in what he was doing. They added that knucklehead [foot-rubbing, car-littering Rob Gronkowski]. … The weapons around him are crazy. If you get Gronk and him going again when they are in the red zone, which they love to do — the first couple of weeks people were questioning. But you know what? Hey, it is hard to get used to new receivers with a new quarterback and what is expected, until it starts happening on the field and you start seeing it. And Tom has to teach it and what he is looking for in those guys. Now? Look out.
Montana added that he expects the Bucs to be playing a home game in the Super Bowl come February (?). Because of Brady.
Some interesting things here.
So Montana — who Joe knows talks to Brady from time to time (he’s admitted this in past interviews) claims the Bucs are allowing Brady say-so. Not sure what that says about Bill Belicheat but what Joe would like to know is how much influence does Brady have with the Bucs? Is it playcalls? Is it who gets on the field? Is it when to punt (ahem). Is it more than that away from the field?
Joe thinks it is fair to type neither furniture-tosser Antonio Brown nor Gronk would be here if not for Brady.
Also, Joe paid particular attention to Montana explaining how it takes time to learn new teammates, receivers and coaches. Montana would know, he flipped to the Chiefs for the final two years of his career and led the Chiefs to the AFC title his first year in Kansas City. Montana got hurt in that game and the Chiefs lost to the Bills.
Unlike Montana when he changed teams, Brady had no OTAs, no training camp and no preseason. The past two games, against winning teams, Brady has been on fire.
(Yes, Joe understands two rookie quarterbacks who also missed OTAs, real training camp and preseason are also balling out this year which surely shoots holes into Montana’s adjustment theory.)

Brady has definitely been more detailed in his interviews this year.
I always respected him, and for sure believed Belicheat rode his coat tails.
I do own a pewter Brady jersey and I’m proud he is our QB

From one the Former GOAT to the Current GOAT. One thing that BA seemed not to like is the shotgun, and suddenly Brady is in the shotgun now. That is only a hint, but I sure am glad to see Tom in what he is comfortable with. All the more space to get the ball out quick. We know whatever Tom wants for the most part, it is going to happen. Happy clean jersey Tom = Championship run. So give the new GM Brady whatever he wants. BTW Do not look now but the Bucs resemble the NE teams that Brady has been on. I mean excellence across the board as far as the field of play. Billy B has a 43% winning record without Tom in NE and Cleveland. The Patriot way seems to have more to do with Brady than anyone was willing to give credit. The Patriots look and awful lot like the Bucs have now. GO BUCS!!!

I also despised Brady, took me a while to get used to the idea of him being a BUC. Now i don’t wanna imagine him playing for anyone else, lol.
I am no longer throwing something at the TV when we are close to scoring or coming back on a drive to only have it turned over.
Shock of finishing games and coming out with a W is starting to wear off, and it feels so right!!!!!

That was a good interview. He brought up a Jameis holding the ball too long without being asked though… wonder why that was.

Unfreaking believable what Brady has been able to do in 7 weeks in Arians system! Remember when Carson Palmer came out and said Winston should be better in year two in Arians system? Now, Brady has had no off-season, per se, and took less than 7 games to function in it with only 4 interceptions on the season and being named the Player of the month for October! On the flip side, I do see some Patriots running and passing plays sprinkled in the play calling.

With a 1 or 2 year window of course it’s Super Bowl or bust!
One and done in the playoffs will be a major disappointment.

The very first football I ever watched was an 80s 49ers team vs Bengals. Montana to Rice made me instantly fall in love with game. And for my first few years was a huge 49ers fan. That was before I knew I had a home team in the Bucs. Montana has always been the GOAT to me. Brady has a strong case to. The Pats dynasty was nowhere near as talented as those 49er squads. Bradys done more with less IMO. Winning a ring here would put the convo to rest about who is the goat. Heres to hoping OUR Bucs are playing in February. #FireTheCannons!

On Montana never losing SB – not a particularly meaningful stat. Ask yourself this question – would you rather lose on the way to the SB (e.g. in the NFC championship game) or make it to the SB and lose? Surely the latter is preferable as you made it one game further. Think of all the years Montana never even got close to the SB. Not arguing Montana is not the GOAT, but never losing a SB is not the best argument for him being the GOAT.

the chicago game was the turning point, i bet tom was relentlessly cussing out his o-line and receivers in the locker room and during practice the week following the game, maybe even coaches as well, but i could see a whole different mentality after that loss, which could’ve and should’ve been a W, i do not think we will lose another game this season, TB-12 has got that look in his eye, and he’s got this team focused, as SAS say’s their balling, better check your stat sheet mofo’s ha ha ha ha LFG BUCS

Yeah it was! Elway was known for comebacks and he had one that game. Bbbuuuttt… he left too much time on the clock. And the old master of comebacks across the field still had some magic left in his right wing.
What a game that was! NFL Network rebroadcast that game not too long ago.

He’s done more with less and he’s also won 2 more SB’s than Montana in the land of free agency.

Joe. Why do you think Montana is better than Brady ? I didn’t get to watch Montana play but if you look at rings and how Brady elevates his teammates play I feel like Brady is the best to ever play QB. Brady has taken no name WR and RB and made them into household names. Just curious on how you judge a QB for them to be the best to ever play ?
