Marshall Might Be Had For A Second Round Pick
March 4th, 2010First, Joe would like to humbly thank former Bucs offensive lineman and current WDAE-AM 620 morning host Ian Beckles for allowing Joe to ramble on his airwaves about the Bucs this morning. Thanks, Ian!
As Joe mentioned during his appearance, Joe learned through his always rigorous research that not only is Denver wide receiver Brandon Marshall available, but relatively cheap for a receiver of his stature.
Joe’s good friend Jason McIntyre, the baron of TheBigLead.com, asked Sports Illustrated NFL columnist Peter King, via Twitter, which receiver King would take if afforded the opportunity, Dez Bryant or Marshall. Below is the “conversation.”
@TheBigLead: Which baggage player do you take, Brandon Marshall or Dez Bryant?
@SI_PeterKing: Marshall. Might be able to pry him from Den for a 2.
A second round pick for Brandon Marshall? Where does Joe sign up?
Granted, first thing Joe would want to know is, when is the pick, this year or next year, the Bucs’ first pick in the second round or the Bucs’ second round pick they got from Chicago for Gaines Adams?
If Joe were Mark Dominik, and King’s information is accurate, Joe would already be burning the phone lines to Denver.
As Beckles told Joe this morning, the Bucs’ receiving corps, as it now stands, may be the worst in the NFL. How exactly does that help in Josh Freeman’s development?

Great job this morning, Lee, errr, Joe I mean!!!!!! As with most times, I am with you on this one! There’s not a soul to be had in the 2nd round that would come anywhere near the boost that we’d get from BM!! Again, it was great to hear you this morning! Keep up the great work!

A next year pick for Marshall would be fantastic, the draft won’t be nearly as deep, so it could be argued it has more value.

ChuckInJax:
Thanks for the kind words. Joe appreciates it.

Joe, While I agree with you, I don’t think the Glazers will spend the Money on his salary. Sad, but true.
March 4th, 2010 at 12:09 pm
rats!! I did listen to Ian/Ron this a.m. but missed you, Joe. It’s scary..no matter who we want….we have no influence in Buc’s choice…darn it. B. Marshall would prbly lift Josh Freeman’s confidence…good grief, give the kid some support…DUH…wORSE THING….we can’t fire the owners!! dbl rats!!
March 4th, 2010 at 12:14 pm
@ampa2
why not?? if we spend all that money on K2, why not on marshall? if we know he is a nice WR and f he helps to develops freeman and BTW help us to be a better team they woul pay that!!
March 4th, 2010 at 12:32 pm
By the way Marshall is a RFA with a 1st round tender on him, I am sure all of us here know that. So can a RFA be traded? Even if they can, would not Denver get a better deal from some team that signs Marshall?
March 4th, 2010 at 12:36 pm
Jonny:
Yes.
March 4th, 2010 at 12:38 pm
@aldo – agreed. We gave up a #2 + contract for Winslow and potential baggage. Certainly we should be able to work something out for Marshall. We know Denver would rather ship him to the NFC.
March 4th, 2010 at 12:41 pm
Hell, offer them next years #3 and this years #6 – see if they bite.
March 4th, 2010 at 12:55 pm
Dom would go a long way if he can pull this off, especially for a #2, either one. That would essentially be turning Gaines Adams (rest his soul) into Brandon Marshall. Thats pretty darn good. Even the biggest Dom haters would have to admit that
March 4th, 2010 at 1:28 pm
If the Bucs got Brandon Marshall even for our first 2nd round pick I think it would be huge, most likely the Bucs would use of the 2 2nd round picks on a WR, why not get one in his prime that we know we can play at an elite WR level? This would be a great move for Freeman as well, Marshall + Winslow + Stroughter would be some nice targets for him
March 4th, 2010 at 1:52 pm
Absolute no brainer, do the deal.
That is, if your serious.
March 4th, 2010 at 2:19 pm
I would trade the 2nd 2nd round pick for him. I would rather keep the higher one. I still think they would need one more receiver after this though.
Boldin is also available. The Cards are only looking for a 3rd for him. But he would want a huge contract as well. I guess you could say the same about Marshall also. So either player will demand a big contract.
All I know is the Bucs have to do something. They need at least 1 good receiver from the trade/free agency market. You just can’t go into the season with Sammie, Clayton, Stovall and rookies. That would suck.
March 4th, 2010 at 3:19 pm
Get him,
Yes i agree
i wouldnt want to take a chance in FA, may not end up with anybody good
March 4th, 2010 at 4:18 pm
Your slipping Joe. Brandon Marshall’s price has been rumored to be a 2nd round pick for weeks now. Thank maybe there is a reason?
Hope the Bucs let him become the next TO somewhere else.
March 4th, 2010 at 4:35 pm
JDouble:
Joe has not read of those rumors until this morning.
Of course he has baggage and doesn’t get along with his coach. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be on the market. That goes without saying.

Brandon Marshall is by far the best receiver in the league right now for developing QBs. He made Jay Cutler look elite, and Kyle Orton look like a genius. He had an 18-catch game two seasons ago, and a 21-catch game last season. There isn’t another receiver in the league who defines the term “go-to receiver” like Marshall.
If the Glazers want to see the most return on their investment in Freeman, they should pay the price to pick up Marshall. Kevin Walter (UFA) could play a solid #2 role, and Sammie could play the slot that he was born to play.
Say the Bucs get a Ryan Matthews or Ben Tate in the draft… and all of a sudden this offense has potential! That would require one trade and one FA signing to accomplish. I know the Glazers have gotten a reputation as misers, but given what they offered Haynesworth last year, I don’t see any reason why they should help out their franchise QB.
March 4th, 2010 at 5:08 pm
Rather, why they shouldn’t help out their franchise QB.
March 4th, 2010 at 5:14 pm
GET BRANDON MARSHALL AT WUTEVA COST AS LONG AS WE KEEP OUR #3 OVERALL PIC! POINT BLANK!!! IF THEY ONLY WANT 2ND ROUNDER THEN FRI WE SHOULD HAVE MARSHALL. WHY ARE WE SO SCARED TO GET ELITE PLAYERS??? WE HAVE TOO MUCH PRIDE WE ALWAYS TRYIN TO DEVELOPE A BUST GET A ELITE PLAYER IM TIRED OF US LOSING!
March 4th, 2010 at 7:00 pm
If Marshall becomes the next TO, that would be awesome.
15,000 receiving yard, 144 touchdowns.
March 4th, 2010 at 7:14 pm
Hey how about giving our 2nd round pick (from Chicago) AND Clay-hands as well? That would move MB into the #1 slot no questions asked AND get rid of that contract from Clay-hands as well…
March 4th, 2010 at 7:18 pm
The Dream is anxious to see how Clayton improves with the new receiver coach……………he can’t be traded.
March 4th, 2010 at 7:28 pm
Here’s an awesome quote from the Dream about Tebow:
“You never know with that guy. He’s won at every level,” Morris said. “His teammates love him. They’ll let you know they love him. You’re talking about taking a guy to the next level with you; they’ll all bring him [Tebow] with them.
“Those are the kind of guys you look for to involve in the character, leadership and also the winning of your football team.”
What the hell is this guy even talking about?

Offer Denver the 3’rd round pick, which is only 3 past 2’nd, throw in Michael Clayton, Blocker Extraordinaire, and that becomes one helluva deal for the Super Slimy, Josh McDaniel. Clayton was a 1’st round pick and was an excellent receiver before he forgot how to catch. He can block and will make a good special teams player. He has great taste in clothes and is always stylin and profilin. Big diamond earring. He is truly a Bro’s bro. Lastly, when he complains and the coach tells him “drop it” he does, and how. Michael, we sure hate to see you go but I’m sure you’ll love Denver. It is a fun place to live and the cold weather could tighten your grip just enough to catch the ball.
March 4th, 2010 at 9:50 pm
I think that Dominik should call Denver and let them know that Clay-hands would do well in Denver because with the air being thinner the ball wouldn’t drop as fast and Clayhands might not drop as many passes!
Plus Michael is one of the BEST blocking WR’s in the NFL right?

The price for Brandon Marshall is a 1st and 3rd round pick pick do the research
March 5th, 2010 at 12:06 am
Hey rocket scientist, the STICKER price is a 1 & 3. That is not necessarily the cost to drive it off the lot. Nice job on your research. Now, did you finish all of your homework?
