Joe’s a big Jamel Dean fan.
The second-year cornerback keeps growing and growing. He’ll have his hiccups, like he did Sunday in Vegas, but Dean attacks his mistakes and is fiercely determined to fix them.
Dean is known for his 5 a.m. daily arrivals to One Buc Palace for film study with defensive coordinator Todd Bowles. But not everything can be learned on video.
Some techniques require live fire to develop and hone.
On Sunday, Dean was beaten deep against the Raiders late in the third quarter, a 44-yard bomb to Nelson Agholor at the Bucs’ 3 yard line. Two plays later, the Raiders had pulled to within 24-17.
Dean opened up about the play on Bucs Total Access.
“The deep ball that I ended up giving up [was] from having bad technique. I just need to focus on not relaxing. Instead of trying to slow down and find [my] guy, I gotta keep running and find the guy,” Dean said.
The Bucs defense is ranked No. 3 in the NFL in yards allowed through seven weeks. At this point, Joe ranting about defensive mistakes is more nitpicking than anything else. But players, of course, should to be perfectionistic.
Dean is that kind of guy, and with the work he’s putting in and his attitude, Joe wouldn’t be surprised if he’s the Bucs cornerback fans are most talking about come January.

If they want to be great, then you got to deal with nitpicking – that’s the different between good and great.
On that play the only issue I really saw is that he didn’t appear to know where the ball was and never got his hands up. I think he was mainly trying to avoid the PI, but had he known where the ball was he could have taken a chance since it was going to be caught anyways.

whenever Dean and Edwards are on the field togther, INTs happen….
BUCS secondary has a good solid foundation….lets keep building…

One of my favorite Bucs. Jamel has overcome a bunch already, and reminds me a lot of Ronde … just keeps making plays.

Good kid, good attitude, and a good player that is on the rise in his second year. Doesn’t get much better than that. This team looks like its really coming together, but it’s still early and I’m still po’d about the Bears game. I need to see more, but these last two games have been sweet.

He needs to be on the field all the time. Murphy-Bunting looks like he doesn’t know what to do.

Joe would love to volunteer for you guys , assist with some stories . Check out Michael Lombardi on the pat mcafee show . He thought they were off air and divulged some insight from Tom Brady. Lombardi said he talks to Brady three times a week and is working his tail off to try to teach the Bucs what it takes to win a super bowl, Macafee quickly interrupted and told him to stop talking he was on air .

Problem is he’s been caught a few times with the deep ball. He seems to mentally check out at times.

SMB needs to figure it out quick or sit. Dean starts outside. In nickel situations, bring in Edwards at S and Winfield to NCB.

Davis & Dean are our best…….SMB is good but inconsistent….we’ve got 3 good safeties…..good thing all are relatively healthy because we have little depth.
I’m thinking OT, OLB, CB in next year’s draft…..

Our CBs seem to let the WRs get behind them and then lose sight of the ball on deep plays. I don’t know if it’s the defensive scheme or our guys just get confused on coverages?

Yeah don’t look now but while we were sleeping the Bucs developed a formidable secondary.

I tend to think that as fans we see the mistakes made by our offensive line and defensive backs and ignore the good plays these guys have on 4 out of every 5 plays.
The Seattle game last year was a perfect example. The Buc’s fans were complaining about our defensive back play – which was not good. However, looking as an independent observer, Seattle defensive back play was even worse than ours. Those were easy wide open throws all day long. Those Seattle DBs must have been watching VHIII tape.
It is a passing league and it is hard for defensive backs to look good all game, every game. The average game this year so far defenses are allowing 245 yards passing and 1.8 passing TD’s a game. Tampa Bay is giving up 225 yards passing and 1.3 passing TDs a game. It is even more dramatic when you look at just the Bucs opponents. In non Bucs games those teams we have played against have averaged 309 passing yards per game and 2.2 pass TDs against teams other than the Bucs.
A substantial difference that helps us understand how solid our secondary play has been.

I agree, been touting him since last year as being no worse than the second best CB on the roster. Seems like he had a run of games with a lot of PBUs that really stood out since we weren’t seen much of that from anyone else. Anywho… Go Bucs!!

The problem with our secondary is they
have bad eyes. U get beat on deep balls in man coverage

All is forgiven after a win! Dean’s pick 6 against Green Bay turned the game around and practically saved the season.

Dean is the second best CB on the team I think that’s clear now!! Dude is good and even tho he gave up that pass he made up a lot of ground and had it not of been a perfect throw would have still been in position to make a play on it!!! Burner speed!! He’ll get better and better!!!

CD3 and Dean seem to really want to be great…
terrific to hear about Dean’s dedication and being a sponge around bowles…
the two of them want to be great…
not sure what’s happened to SMB…does he just not really care or is it injuries…
maybe he should get in the building at 5 am too

Not sure why people are over-reacting on SMB. He hasn’t had any real problems apart from not making an obvious impact play, but I don’t see him repeatedly getting burned either. He’ll get his splash plays here and there. I’m not worried about him, especially since we got rid of VH3.
It’s way too early to call Carlton Davis a shutdown CB. He gets caught with bad technique sometimes too. Overall, as a unit they’re really good. But, they each have made their own mistakes. Each of them have yet to reach their potential.

I’ve been a huge fan of this kid since his first start against Seattle.
Dean seems to play better the more he’s on the field, so I’d love to seem him starting more often.
