Fantastic Hypocrisy

October 23rd, 2020

It seems Team Glazer hasn’t changed much

The Buccaneers organization fancies itself as a champion and a leader when it comes to representing the interests of women in sports, business, NFL hiring and football fandom.

And they deserve the accolades — with Team Glazer, Bucco Bruce Arians and the Bucs front office leading the way.

And now the Bucs want to sign receiver Antonio Brown, whose sordid history includes a pending recent civil suit against him for rape.

Joe’s research shows the suit hasn’t been settled yet. In June, NFL.com itself reported that the suit is ongoing.

So this latest Bucs interest in Brown certainly feels a little hypocritical to Joe.

Yes, Joe understands Team Glazer has experience with Jerramy Stevens and Jameis Winston. The latter was even labeled a sex offender by the NFL as a Buccaneer and accepted the punishment before being re-embraced by Team Glazer. The Bucs’ owners love to give players and people second chances. It’s a noble trait. But it’s not like Team Glazer can say those guys advanced the performance and reputation of the franchise. What did ownership learn from those experiences?

Under Arians, it seemed Team Glazer had turned a corner when it came to building the Bucs with people of excellent character.

It felt good. It felt right. The team is in first place.

Signing Brown would feel dirty, hypocritical and a little stupid. But Joe supposes Team Glazer believes entertainment rules the day. After all, football is the entertainment business.

Why is Joe referencing Team Glazer? Because Joe has no doubt that when you want to sign a guy with Brown’s celebrity and notorious history, it’s always about ownership approval.

No, Joe won’t jump the pirate ship if the Bucs sign Brown. They can always cut him if he misbehaves. Joe’s not standing on some sort of soap box here, just noting the whiff of hypocrisy and the soap opera nature of it all.

Man Joe sure is salty about any move that makes this team better.

Signing Tom Brady Lies are not tolerated. Joe was all for signing Brady. He was an upgrade at QB. –Joe

Trading For Gronk – Good luck finding Joe against the Gronk signing. The Archives are here for you. –Joe

    Getting AB

He was mad about each one of those decisions and the first two turned out for the better.

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    This is America…..everybody deserves a 4th chance…..

  3. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Also joe our last QB had a civil suit against him for the same thing.

  4. Ftmyersbuc Says:

    A. Give the guy a chance

    B. Give the decision makers some respect. They’re not stupid and will have a ton of clauses in the contract.

  5. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Joe you weren’t really that positive when we signed Brady your tweets and retweets said otherwise.
Look them up. And the archives are here for you. –Joe

  6. Jill Says:

I hate that signing. Will burn the season – and it was so much fun up until now… :-(((

  7. jcscycles Says:

This move might just get us to the NFC South championship and a good shot at the Super Bowl if it works out. He is eligible to play Week 9 against the Saints. Just in time to wreck Lattimore’s Sunday. Heh-heh-heh!

  8. Greg Says:

Speaking of hypocrisy! Joe and a few select fans on this site made up every excuse for a mediocre quarterback ((excuses? Joe wrote 150 times that Jameis was never more than average in the NFL world of starting QBs. When’s the last time you heard Joe scream that Jameis should have made a Pro Bowl. That would be never. –Joe)) So I don’t wanna hear anything about the Buccaneers bringing in a guy that’s a true pro bowler not an alternate.

The Buccaneers knew about Winston all the way back in school and drafted him anyway. Hello, they gave Jameis a second chance at 21 years old. Brown is much older and is now on how many chances? Apples and oranges. Joe doesn’t pick the players. –Joe

  9. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Thank you for saying it Greg.

  10. Rayjay1122 Says:

The sky is not falling. Good grief. Just stop it already with the negative doom and gloom. So, everyone including Joe who are so against this, make sure if he balls out and behaves that you stick with your current opinions.

  11. TB12 In Da Bay Says:

If Joe referred to the Saint’s 3rd Stringer’s incident as a “hassle” which I believe was settled out of court I wonder what adjective to lessen AB’s transgressions he will come up with….

Not a fan of this as I think it’s more risk than reward. Now it is truly Super Bowl or bust

  12. TB12 In Da Bay Says:

Jeez Greg dropping a truth bomb right on Joe’s face

  13. chris L Says:

i agree joe….i am praying this guy does not screw up our team. he better follow protocols too. i almost feel sad given everything you mentioned above. is this a distraction along with the vegas game scheduling for sunday? this team better come out firing on sunday. brown better learn how to be a proper teammate from godwin and evans.

  14. Youngbucs Says:

Funny how we never saw a article like this about Winston 🤔🤔🤔🤔
You saw many. Joe is the only one in this market to label Jameis an NFL sex offender multiple times. The JoeBucsFan archives are here for you. –Joe

  15. WillieG Says:

The Glazers aren’t stupid. Surely it must have been a situation like “we want you to sign him. He will know that if does XYZ, he will be gone.” They probably have a whole list of unacceptable behaviors. If he does any of them, they will allow BA to cut him immediately.

Also, it sounds like Brown is fighting the civil suit? If he is, that’s a good sign. Guilty people tend to want to pay off the victim ASAP *cough, cough*, the Saints backup QB *cough, cough*

  16. Rod Munch Says:

I’ll say it again, and if you don’t understand this simple statement, then you should spend your Sundays cruising interstate rest stops and give up watching football.

    AB for Cyril Grayson

    Grade: A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

  17. Fernando Diaz Says:

    Boneheaded move

  18. ModHairKen Says:

Scott Peterson may be getting out soon. Maybe the Bucs could sign him, too, as a TE.

  19. Rayjay1122 Says:

ME13 is probably jumping for joy…..no more getting double teamed constantly with him and AB to worry about covering. Can’t double both of them….just saying.

  20. TampaTown Says:

Just what we don’t need. Distraction.

  21. Freebooter Says:

    Horrific idea

  22. Tampabuscsbro Says:

    Good lord the absolute coping.

  23. CPN Says:

The Bucs are all in, when they mean ALL IN. It’s ALL IN.

If that means signing the headcase that is Antonio Brown, then so be it!

  24. TB12 In Da Bay Says:

“It’s not gonna happen,” Arians said in March regarding the prospect of signing Brown. “There’s no room, you know? Probably not enough money. It’s just not gonna happen. It’s just not a fit here. . . . I just know him, and it’s not a fit in our locker room.”

BA is no longer in charge, this season is all about Brady

  25. HeyItsAdam Says:

After the garbage I’ve witnessed as a STH, I honestly do not care about character. Just freaking win. The choir boy approach is a failure. Maybe being around some criminals will toughen these Marys up.

  26. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Joe the Archives are there but you just called that situation a hassle.

Genuinely sorry you are so upset over this joe. This was the right albeit risky move with how our WR corp is a field hospital at the moment.

  27. GatorBuc Says:

Well said Joe… sad day 🙁

  28. Durango 95 Says:

The headline on the story reads “Fantastic Hypocrisy” What’s notable about that, to me, is the purposeful omission of a question mark.

    Using internet parlance, “just saying”

  29. August 1976 Buc Says:

Hey Rod I do not think we will see AB let a long TD bounce off his head like Cyril lol I agree AB ++++++ Lol Go for the jugular, all in to WIN!!!!! GO BUCS !!!!!!

  30. Christopher Schiefen Says:

    1) you’re saying you rightly criticized Jameis for his off-field troubles and also labeled him mediocre…the “America’s Quarterback” moniker was wildly confusing, then.
    2) Jameis got a second chance the minute we drafted him, then a third chance after the Uber incident. I’d argue we gave him a fourth chance after he was caught lying about that, and was gonna get a 5th chance (after 30 picks) if Tom didn’t sign. Antonio (after 4 All-Pros) quit on his team in Pitt, yes. Then (just like Keyshawn), he clashed with Jon. His 3rd chance was in NE and it was going fine till he made fun of the owner’s arrest. The whole rest of the organization seemingly wanted him.
So this “chance” game is closer than you think, Joseph.

  31. Bird Says:

Guys. This is the one joe . Normal joe .

This is not the pitt vs fsu joe
    That Loved loved loved jameis

  32. Dano407 Says:

If Evans,Godwin,& Miller were all healthy this wouldn’t happen. The offense hasn’t been able to live up it to its full because lack of practice & because the receivers are all hurt. They’re all hobbling out there. Brady wants AB so he gets who he wants and you know his contract will be full of clauses. They’re all IN so I say go for it !!

  33. Bird Says:

But i do agree if the other joe could not write this article

I think The other joe even commented he would be proud if the uber driver was his daughter and able to extort jameis for the crotch grab

Joe – check the archives on that.

  34. Clean House Says:

This is the Sean Hannity Joe

  35. Demete Says:

Who are you Joe, Mike Florio??

  36. Tampabaybucfan Says:

There is no such thing as hypocrisy in politics or football…..

If Jameis Winston can become & remain “America’s Quarterback” America’s Quarterback was a nickname Joe liked and was given six months before Jameis was drafted. It’s a nickname, not a statement of greatness. Like “rock star” general manager Mark Dominik, or “Blocking Icon” Michael Clayton. Nickname. –Joe

even after his “hassle”….then AB can be given a 4th chance. After all, he too…..just had a “hassle”

Here is what AB said after receiving his suspension.

“I look forward to new beginnings. I want to be the best version of myself on and off the field, and I will do my best to be a great teammate. I appreciate the NFL giving me the opportunity to continue to work on myself and improve. I am thankful and grateful for this opportunity to play a game that I truly love and I look forward to joining a new team soon. Thank you to my family and all those that have supported me. I will show the fans my appreciation for this second chance by having the best season of my career.

  37. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

I completely agree with this take.

  38. Darin Says:

He’s suspended first 8 games. I would hope they change their minds by then. I won’t be attending any games with that booty clown on the team. Boooooooooo. A first place team and you add a psychopath. Only the bucs.

  39. Defense Rules Says:

    Big mistake.

  40. timbucs2 Says:

Thanks for this Joe. I’m saddened that talent/potential always seems to overrule character. I hoped the Bucs leadership would have learned to be better than this, but it seems not.

  41. BigMacAttack Says:

    Just win baby!!!

  42. BigMacAttack Says:

I’m sure there was a pow wow with BA JL AB GL’s TB and AB before it was done. BA is tough and no way they would undercut his authority. My guess is AB humbled himself before BA and they made amends. It BA didn’t sign off, this deal doesn’t happen. I’m cautiously optimistic here. Maybe AB is finally ready to just play football. Again I have to give Licht props for doing everything in his power to improve the team. Work in progress and sure looking to be on the right path to success. I’m solidly impressed with everything the team has done this season to turn things around. My initial response here is “The Hits just Keep on Coming!”💥

  43. Buczilla Says:

Agree with ya Joe’s, but like you said, we can always cut the trainwreck that is Antonio Brown if he has not changed.

  44. BigMacAttack Says:

I don’t condone rape or any crime but just as I said with Jameis everyone deserves the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. Many players have been predators over the years and many have been subjected to false allegations from fake victims with ulterior motives. I don’t know with AB and not my place to judge. I’m excited to see this team every week now. Kneel, stand, fans, none, we’ve waited far too long for a team like this. Go Bucs!!!

  45. Sauron's Eye Says:

Brown did not last long with his last 2 teams, have to see how it goes. Brady loves him. Hope to see him on the field and not in the news.

  46. Clean House Says:

They voted their sister off the island

  47. Gman Says:

For all of the people saying “The Glazers aren’t stupid”….when it comes to football operations what have they done since Malcolm passed away to make you think they have any idea they know what they hell they are doing?

  48. Elita Vita Says:

Seems like AB is pretty much signed. So let’s try to take a positive approach to the signing. That being said I can’t help to think how Darcy’s feels about this.

People calling this his “last chance.” you don’t think he was told the same thing at his last 3 stops? Giving someone his fourth “last chance” only reinforces his delusions of grandeur. It makes people like him worse.

It’s not just his attitude that he can act any sexual way he pleases around women, his treatment of teammates and coaches, and his repeated police involvement. The last straw for me was when he video’d himself berating and dressing down his child’s mother in public, and thinking it was acceptable enough behavior to post online. Imagine how he teaches his young ones to behave toward women (including their mother) when he is in a private setting? Who will ever break that cycle and be a positive male role model in their lives?

He is gross, and this is just the latest indication that the Glazers are not who we thought they were.

  53. Roy T. Buford Says:

Sad and despicable. I’ve been a fan since 1976, in their first season. This is a player with the worst character they have EVER had on the team. They deserve to lose out. Karma is a beeatch.

  54. Bucsfanman Says:

Lots of hypocrisy around these parts. I’ve seen fans pine for lesser talent with bigger issues.
This is just another SHINING example of how much of a BUSINESS football is. It’s why I don’t get too high or too low. They don’t put food on my table and I will never have to sit with them.
AB is being signed because the Bucs top 2WRs have been injured from game #1 and we are trying to take this team into the playoffs.
I despise divas. But, he’s our diva now.
    Go Bucs!

  55. Jeagaoin1999 Says:

I get what Joe is saying, and I don’t disagree. But I will look on this signing as a half-year rental and insurance policy for the Bucs (in case Evans and Godwin are more injured than we thought, or take longer to heal than anticipated)….a reclamation project for Tom Brady (who I think honestly believes he can help save a talented football player in AB)….and, LET’s HOPE, a humbled and hungry AB, who realizes that if he screws this up, his next job in football is selling peanuts on game day!

I also wonder this, Joe……was any of this just to keep the Seahawks from gaining another potential weapon? After all, at some point Tampa and Seattle will probably meet in the playoffs.

  56. richbucsfan Says:

Look, the NFL is a business, not a Sunday School class. The object is to win with the best talent available. Morals and unethical behavior notwithstanding. Remember the Oakland Raiders of old? It took the mighty Pittsburgh Steelers to meet them and beat them at their own game. AB is a very small cog in this operation. No need to get yourself all worked up.

  57. Bird Says:

    Joes

Why dont you separate yourselves on confirmation when you write article?
    I mean Ira does

Wasting your time, based on your misinterpretations of what Joe’s saying and typing, become a waste of time in the comments section.–Joe

  58. ancientasbuc Says:

You previously asked for us to sign Kareem Hunt and there has been no blowback for Cleveland doing so. He was actually charged with a crime. AB has not although he could be. There is little risk here and only security for injuries or poor play.
