“Favorites”

October 20th, 2020

Not yet peaked?

Joe isn’t sure if some people are serious or they are drunk with excitement after watching a weekend full of football.

(Joe admits to natural buzz Monday morning and it wasn’t because of the copious cups of Community Coffee Joe guzzled but instead, it was thanks to that curb-stomping the Bucs laid down on the Packers).

Well, one former NFL suit was so impressed, he has now labeled the Bucs as “favorites.”

Former Jets and Dolphins general manager Mike Tannebaum took to Twitter yesterday and admitted he now sees why park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting Tom Brady wanted to come to Tampa Bay.

And it wasn’t the wonderful weather.

We Bucs fans all know from experience that a kick-@ss defense can carry a team until the offense gets in gear. The Bucs offense is not yet fully clicking, though it sure looked like it was on the cusp Sunday.

One could argue Brady is not on the same page as Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Part of that likely has to do with both receivers missing time with injuries.

Remember, when Chucky came to the Bucs and not only overhauled the offensive roster but the offense itself, the offense really didn’t start clicking until November.

Today is Oct. 20.

We need them to click in Vegas.

RoJo running the ball is HUGE for this offense. If they can maintain a solid running game it will open up the offense alot more.

It’s great the Bucs looked so great against the Packers. The thing the Bucs need to do now is show consistency on both offense and defense. I’m not ready to call them the favorites until they look the same for a few weeks in a row. I think the defense is closer then offense for being consistent but the offense has some work to do. Continue to run the ball to take the pressure off of Brady to win the game every week and then start the play action. Once Brady starts getting the ball down the field to Godwin and Evans this team will be pretty hard to beat. Don’t need 400+ yards a game throwing the ball, get it balanced and add the deep strike and you’re good to go.

I am sure Chucky watched the game Sunday since they had a bye week. It will be interesting to see how he prepares for the game.

  5. Alanbucsfan Says:

Bucs couldn’t beat Tommy Maddox without Brad Johnson.
Brady staying healthy is the season.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

A strong defense couples with few penalties, no turnovers, good kicking and even an average “game managed” offense will win a lot of games…….but change any of those and we will lose to a good team.

We need to believe in ourselves but not believe in what others think.

  7. ocala Says:

Things look very encouraging. No team in the NFL has played a better game than the Bucs did on Sunday.

The Bucs have a tough game at Vegas on Sunday. If they win that one I would say you should consider the Bucs as the NFC favorite(Seattle has played nobody so far).

  8. Buc4ever Says:

Gruden saw how fast and aggressive the Bucs D is. Expect a lot of draw plays, misdirections and the typical WC passing game.

  9. Defense Rules Says:

One game doesn’t a season make. Be careful drinking that Kool-Aid.

  10. Bird Says:

    Raiders beat the chiefs

Did you watch chiefs last night? Wow
They ran for almost 250 yards. The running back For chiefs from lsu os sick
Mahommes can throw for 400 yards when he wants
That team is nasty so raiders are a test for sure.

    Go bucs

As long as we win idc – but I think the main “issue” with Evans isn’t chemistry or Brady is simply wanting to spread ball around (if you don’t think Brady wants to feed Evans more you’re smoking crack), Evans simply is not the same guy this yr yet. He is slow and gimpy and cannot get open, isn’t running many deep routes, is only most effective now in red zone because he can still “post up” smaller defenders. Again if we keep winning it’s whatever, but it really would be nice to see peak Evans with Brady and I hope this isn’t going to be an all yr thing. I say as long as Godwin is playing – why not rest Evans. I’d love to know how defenses are playing coverage on him. If they aren’t respecting his presence because they know he’s running around slow and gimpy then I simply don’t know how that helps this football team. And no, I’m not interested in commentary from fans about coverages because unless you have access to all-22 then you have no clue either

  12. No Risk It No Biscuit Says:

    Yeah Baby!

Brad Johnson threw 4 touchdown passes to beat the Vikings.

  13. No Risk It No Biscuit Says:

    That was the beginning.

  14. Go Bucs 72 Says:

    Brady vs Carr, Bucs win.

  15. Cobraboy Says:

One important result of a running game is play-action giving Brady more time for Miller to stretch a D.

A 50 yd. PI is just as excellent as a 50 yd. reception. Too bad they don’t show up in offensive stats, because they are pretty much the same.

  16. Cobraboy Says:

@Gofortheface30: Evans has played hurt. I doubt he’s 80%. THAT is why Evans has not been effective this season beyond a decoy and posting up in the end zone.

    Same with Godwin.

If those two ever get really healthy, this offense can be impressive.

One of the most heartening things from Sunday’s game was Brady, with the game well in hand and deserving of some revealing in the moment, instead intensely coaching up Grayson. That is greatness on display. He must see something in Grayson that we don’t see yet.

  20. stpetebucsfan Says:

Agree with Cobra. Neither Evans nor Godwin have been truly healthy this year.

We were thrilled with the excess depth in the off season now we’re thrilled to have it when we need it. OJ gone..Gronk steps up and Brate is available…our backs out of the backfield are another option…we still have targets.

  21. Gofortheface30 Says:

Cobra boy – yes I agree, that’s where I was driving at. I don’t even know if Evans is 80%. If he’s going to be ineffective, then I say sit him until he’s healthy. I just don’t want this to be an all year issue

  22. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

It’s still too early to crown them anything but this game gave us our recipe for success. It is nice that we “shocked” the football world. As with a fire you take anything from its triangle in order to spread we have to keep the most important 3 things going, explosive defense, efficient offense and vastly reduced penalties. I do believe that every team left on our schedule has been “woken up” to the Bucs now. Hopefully the Bears game will be the wakeup call to the NFL best summed up by Admiral Yamamoto after Pearl Harbor, ” I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.”

  23. Gofortheface30 Says:

Good lord, St pete – again, that is exactly what I said. When I say gimpy and not 80% in my original post, how else exactly is that to be interpreted. To be candid, depth is nice but idk why you guys are so fervent on depth. I get it. It’s nice. But let’s not kid ourselves – Brady came down here specifically for Evans and Godwin. Getting the ball in to their hands is a good thing. Let’s get them healthy
