Bucs Trade For A Todd Bowles DT

New Bucs DT Steve McLendon.
Joe isn’t sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing but the Bucs just traded for a Jets player.
A guy the Jets signed when current Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles was their head coach, nose tackle Steve McLendon, is being shipped to the Bucs per Rich Cimimi of BSPN.
Per Brian Costello of the New York Post, the Bucs sent a sixth-round pick in 2022 to the Jets and in return, receive McLendon and a seventh-round pick in 2023.
McClendon is 34 years old.

McLendon may have had his best season as a Jet last year. Even at age 33, McLendon was highly productive on the field and a critical leader off the field.
McLendon really impressed the new coaching staff from the start of the offseason program. He is a locker room Yoda, with sayings and teachings for young players. He likes to say that he was drafted in the eighth round (he was undrafted) and tells them “the gym is always open.”
On the field, McLendon started all 16 games despite hip and knee injuries late in the season. He tied Jamal Adams for the team lead with 10 tackles for loss, which was also a career high. He also had a career-high seven quarterback hits, one fumble recovery, 2 ½ sacks and 36 tackles.
Costello also noted that McLendon had only one missed tackle last season. McClendon started every game for the Jets this year and in his first four games had 10 tackles.
The well-traveled McLendon has been a regular NFL starter since 2013.

Man oh man, AC/DC loving Jason made a smart, smart move here. This guy is perfect for Todd Bowles defense and will show results within two games.

He played for the Steelers for six years, and he knows how to win. Was a Jets team captain. Fans are already missing him, but are also happy for him getting to escape the Jets dumpster fire. Good solid move by Jason Licht!

after the way bowles had these guys balling today, if the good sir thinks he needs mcclendon to bolster the inside, then so be it…
he knows the guy from his jets stint…
he must like him and his experience…good move…
the bucs are once again stating they’re all in this year…

Good move. He started 37 games for Bowles during his tenure as the HC for the Jets. He’ll pick it up quick and bring quality play/depth.

This looks like a plug & play move that helps solidify the DL rotation…I’m all for it. (On it’s surface)
Generally speaking…I hate moves dealing the future…But future 6th/7th round picks would be a small price to pay, if he helps fill Vea’s void for the 2020 play-off push.
Let’s all hope it works out & no whammies pop up.
Any # of moves will be made by the FO to replace picks -yrs down the line. – between now & then.
Regardless, I like this move in a “Win Now” season. A roll of the dice move, on a familiar commodity. A move the FO needed to make, chasing a division title & hoping for more.

Great addition for nose tackle rotation. Solid experienced depth. So many injuries this year across the league. No preseason conditioning the cause?

I bet JoeSeahawksFan.com had a similar opening line when they signed McDougald a few years ago—and I get why! But Everything I’ve read about this guy is that he’s yet another established Veteran in the locker room. And you know he has to be loving this change in postseason fortune!
Salary is a great fit too; looks like he will only be due a hair over a quarter million from the Bucs, based on his prorated $1.25 million he inked with the Jets in the offseason.

Good move by Licht. This guy will bring maturity and leadership to all the younger players. Bowles gave his name to the FO. Still buzzing over the win. Finally, an almost perfectly played game. 🙂
