Donovan Smith has more penalties in five games than he did all last season.
In fact, he leads the NFL — with a teammate right behind him.
This is unacceptable for a sixth-year veteran earning $14.5 million this season.
After tonight’s mess, Smith has seven penalties in five games. Carlton “Flags” Davis has six. Demar Dotson and Shaq Barrett led the Bucs last season with 10 each, while Davis had nine.
The Bucs have two offensive line coaches and it’s not like Smith is distracted because he has to help out a rookie or inexperienced left guard next to him; Ali Marpet is a strong and clean player having a good season.
Smith just has to keep his head in the game consistently, but he hasn’t done that in 2020. At this rate, he’ll have a new team in 2021.

And he leads the NFL in penalties? This is why I was screaming for Jason to replace this bum with Trent William’s this offseason.
Donovan Smith could be so much better than he is if not for his horrible attitude and willingness to give up on plays. But he isnt. He is a horribly inconsistent and below average player.

Not excusing him but we have played an additional game than 30 other teams.
Let’s check the stats after this weekend.
As far as D. Smith…..I say we should draft a RT….move Wirfs to LT & save the $14.2 mil for LVD, Godwin, Shaq and others who are worthy.

If he’s held to the same standard that James was (and he certainly should be), then he’ll be gone. There was plenty of blame to go around tonight, but D. Smith’s been a mistake machine from Game 1.

Youngbucs is right. The refs rewarded Foles for a terrible throw that was uncatchable. Just one or many flags that made it blatantly obvious that the refs were actively trying to give this game to the bears.

The flag on Davis was bs. If that’s the call then any speedy wr can fly and then step in the brakes. He’s had at least a couple tixky tack calls against. it seems he has a rep as being grabby that he can’t let down now that he had a target on his back.
One thing I did like seeing was Tyler Johnson actually run that sideline route well… Looked like same play that was picked twice by Watson with last one being a bad route. Johnson showed me some good things but still a rook Nd we need our studs healthy

Those 2 flags against Davis and Shaq were awful. Take away those two and we win the game. Mack is good. He made Wirfs look like a rookie.
Lots of good things out of this game though too. No interceptions. I loved Brady’s fire on the sidelines. Evans, Godwin and Miller hurt. I think we heal and we win against the Packers. I think Brady’s changing things. They are going to get back up and beat an even tougher team. Go Bucs!!!

Exactly, it’s his attitude that really turns me off. He looks like he doesn’t even want to be out there which is why I think he initially wanted to opt out.

Bucs definitely need to work on both lines next off season. New LT for sure and some help to that d line. They are an injury or 2 away from not being able to get much pressure.
I’m glad for this game. I feel like people started to get big heads about this team and how “well” the offensive line was playing. We all got humbled a little bit tonight.
I’m going to enjoy my humble pie tonight, finish off the rest of the pizza and what’s left of the crown and go to bed.
Tomorrow is a new week. Put this game to bed and focus on getting healthy for the packers.

Hey no I don’t understand that cause I am of the hope they fire Arains after this year, bring in Bienemy as head coach, Brady retires and we bring back a QB FOR THE LONG HAUL in Jameis and then we will really have something.
Plus no matter what happens I am simply giving you a taste of the stupid crap many posted on here the last 5 years about our previous QB.
Sounds ridiculous doesn’t it well look in the mirror and you will see exactly where it came from.

Fun fact: Donovan Smith has been the one of the two MOST penalized players on the Bucs team for 4 of his 6 seasons playing here.
2015: 9 penalties
2016: 13 penalties 2nd most in the entire NFL!
2017: 8 penalties
2018 & 2019: actually cleaned it up and only had 6 and 5 (but don’t worry, we had Damar Dotson with 10 to lead the way!)
2020: 7 penalties so far. 1st in the entire NFL!
But he doesn’t miss games mannnnn!
I mean, so what if he still takes 5 – 10 plays off every single week? Lets make him one of the highest paid tackles in the league anyway!

Smith has enough talent to be elite.
He’s been durable, but overall his benefit has been average.
Sometimes he just looks like he doesn’t care or is just plain lazy.
It’s a shame but I am hopeful he can put it together this season.

This loss wasn’t on Brady.
He essentially played without, Godwin, OJ, Miller, Watson, McCoy, Fournette..
He had a penalty-ridden Oline……a BS turnover before the half…..and coaching that relied on the Defense instead of him.
He had to live with some terrible calls…….probably 7-8…..If Shaq roughed Foles, then Brady was roughed at least 3 times.
I would have liked to see him come back to win……but he should have never been put in that situation.

Love him, hate him or indifferent to him this has to be his last year as a Buc. His time is absolutely up. Long overdue actually. I don’t think Brady will cry over it. Draft a new LT or see how 78 can handle the position.

It should have been a requirement with an aging QB that is losing even more mobility than he didn’t have in the first place to SECURE THE BAG 💼 WITH A FREE AGENT ALL PRO LEFT TACKLE. Drafting Tristan WIRFS was NOT ENOUGH. The way Tom Brady worked in NEW ENGLAND was quick routes slants and lots of space in the pocket. Do you see even when he is not being sacked he is getting his passes batted down??? They are getting big push on this Line Broooos FR BROS this is a sad OLINE that can not provide Old Man Brady with the comfort zone sleep master air pocket that he needs. If this wasn’t in the plans as a necessary part of a Grandpa Brady plan then WHAT THE HECK ???? He’s terrible…..I’ve said this with Winston, it makes no sense to attempt to develop a young QB and have a LT that is so inconsistent. Brady gets the ball out quick which means Smith has to protect for even less time yet somehow his protection is declining. He seems like he’s checked out, some of these mistakes are simply poor focus.

Am I an expert on the X’s & O’s of football and play calling? Nope, not even close. However I can spot it everytime when a player has that fire in his eyes and in his heart to go out and do whatever it takes each week to get a win. For 5 seasons being around the guys, while there was too much losing going on I could see the ones that cared about it and were working like hell to correct it. Unfortunately Donovan cares only about doing just enough to get by and collect a paycheck, PERIOD!!

Great coaching to let him handle Mack one on one on 5 and 7 step drops.. A F*cking high school coach would know better.
False start penalties with zero fans or crowd noise. Holding and he didn’t even touch Mack on one of those sacks. He costs them at least 5 plays a game. Leave a blocking tight end to help his sorry ass
I have no issues with Davis aggressive corner play. Pass interference is subjective and always and inconsistent call in today’s league.
Wirfs is playing well. Don’t expect a rookie to shut Mack out all game. but at least on his sack he just got beat.
Crazy ply was mack tossing Wirfs around like he was a 5 year old. That might have been the most impressive play I saw all night

This loss is on BA for not trading off Useless D. Smith before the whole NFL last night watched how awful he really is. He could have moved Wirts to LT and Haeg could have held up his own at RT. Cut D. Smith now and take part of the $14 million Licht guaranteed him out of Licht’s salary for such an idiotic boondoggle error!!! D. Smith is a pure embarrassment to the Bucs. Wake up BA you should have moved Wirts to LT to replace D. Smith already. Haeg can hold his own at RT.

I know that good lineman are worth their weight in gold, but this guy is above average on his best day. This dude makes more than what he is worth to the team and his contract made it impossible to shore up other areas of the team. If I’m Licht, I’m doing everything in my power to replace this dude and his bloated contract.
You’d expect players to get better as they mature and gain experience, but like so many other Bucs in the past, Donovan is getting worse.
