“Guys Are On Point”
October 6th, 2020Sunday was a quite a bounce-back game for the Buccaneers’ offensive line.
It was easy to forget that Tom Brady is an immobile quarterback.
While Bucco Bruce Arians raved about the line playing one of the best games he can remember in a long time, a more objective observer, former Bucs tight end Anthony Becht, served up a reason why it was happening.
Becht hopped on WDAE Radio and made a case that the rise of Tristan Wirfs is lifting the quality of play across the line.
“It increases the level of desire to be good on Donovan’s side,” Becht said, adding, “these guys get competitive and I think it’s been a positive experience to helping the guys.”
Becht likes what he sees from the “nasty tough guys in the interior” of the Bucs’ line and what the Bucs have been getting lately from their tight ends.
Overall, “guys are on point,” Becht said of the improved line play.
Joe was so pleased to see the push in the running game against the Chargers, and frankly, the way Wirfs and Gronkowski maul together at times on the right side is something Joe hasn’t experienced in ages.
Joe can’t wait to see how the surging line fares against a higher quality defense.
Fun time ahead on Thursday!!!
Bucs-Bears @BigStormBrewing in Clearwater.
Great fully covered outdoor seating, and gorgeous inside, too. Sage Ira Kaufman, @IKaufman76, will be there by 6:30 p.m. feasting & drinking a Bromosa.

Two big runs from Fournette and they’ve been sub par all season. Sundays effort was mostly thanks to RoJo constantly having to bob n weave looking for a crease. Still can’t run to Smiths side though. Maybe they should move home to Wirfs side on running plays

It would be interesting to follow which side of the line the TEs tend to provide help to. If help is being sent to Smith more then Wirfs, that has to send a bit of a message.

It will be interesting to see how we do against the Bears while half of our offensive starters are out injured.

Duly impressed with the pass blocking. I cannot recall EVER watching them protect so well. There were times where Brady had the time to start a new family back there.
And Wirfs is quickly becoming the best of the bunch. Anyone who can leap from a pool and land on their feet at the pools outside edge can play for me anytime.

Chicago has the 7th best defense at home against the run (got it, small sample size). Still sense this will not be a cakewalk…we need to stay on point. We can. Go Bucs.

Both our lines are very healthy and that is what we’ll need to depend on Thursday.

I see alot of screen passes this week. Get some double stick stickem for RoJo!! Is Fournette ruled out I havnt seen anything, although I havnt looked

Wirfs a beast. He has not given up a sack this year And gone against great competition
A friend of mine is Hobart Grad and knows Marpet family
He sent me a ranking of olineman and Ali was ranked second overall which includes tackles / guards / centers. Not sure which site/ ranking
Marpet playing on another level right now
Jensen is a big nasty. Love him. He sets the tempo
Cappa name not coming up so i think thats a good thing.
Smith playing better but hoping he doesnt get brady killed

Overall the line looks very good. Capa and Jensen have played well and I have to give it Donavan Smith since he has played two solid games in a row after an awful game one and a below average game two to start the season.
Marpet and Wirfs are both playing at a pro bowl level through four games.

none of our games will be cake walks….
every team in the NFL will give the bucs their A game because of brady….every team has the bucs circled on their schedule….
GO BUCS!!!!!

GO BUCS!!!!!

Impressed that Cappa is doing so well. He might turn out to be an above average guard. Wirf, no doubt is as advertised and a future pro-bowler. Should make the all rookie squad this year. I wouldn’t be shocked if Ali Marpet and Ryan Jensen both made the pro-bowl this year. So far we have a top 10 OL and might even be a top 5.

The Chargers held a Mahomes to 20. That was a high quality defense, too. The Bears have a higher quality DL. Khalil Mack frightens me.

According to Next Gen stats, Rojo ran 7 carries behind Cappa and picked up 61 yards and averaged 8.7 years. Rojo only produced 23 yards on 5 carries running at the left guard. Seems like Cappa is turning out to be a punishing run blocker.

Here is how I size up this game.
The key is shutting down the Chicago Offense. The Chicago Defense will be a challenge to score against, because they are likely the best we have faced so far. I expect us to score 17 to 24 points.
But we can’t allow Chicago to have a successful day offensively. And if we hold them down as we should, to not more than 14 points Offensively, and don’t create points otherwise for them, we should win the game.

Props to the big guys. They are playing well and this must continue.

who’s our right guard right now? Cappa?
it’s actually fantastic news that i can’t recall. I remember the name of almost every matador and penalty machine who has played the “not ali marpet” guard position since Garret Gilkey, so a guy whose name hasn’t come up much is a huge relief

Is it too early to say that Wirfs is Licht’s best 1st rounder since Mike Evans?
