Believe!
October 6th, 2020A man who used to cover the Bucs just as the Father Dungy regime began believes you can sum up in one word why park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring Bucs quarterback Tom Brady was brought in to replace Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.
It is belief.
“[Sunday was] why they brought Tom Brady into Tampa,” Cowherd said. “It’s not about ability. It’s about belief. The players stopped believing in Jameis Winston.”
Instead, the Bucs believe in Brady.
Cowherd pointed out, correctly, that Sunday’s game in the first half was vintage Bucs. Lousy first half. Can’t stop anyone. Can’t score. Puking on the field of the Den of Depressions and reminding folks why the Bucs are one of the worst home teams in the league. And there was a quality pick-six mixed in for good measure. Just like old times.
But then, something happened. A quarterback named Tommy took his old bones off the bench and starting using the Bucs’ talent and shredding the Chargers defense.
The Bucs didn’t fold their tents because, Cowherd said, the Bucs believe in the Man of Six Rings.
Cowherd said belief, or lack thereof, has always haunted the Bucs. The franchise has always had good coaches and talented players but no belief system and no quarterback. Notoriously.
Brady is changing that script.
You can see Cowherd’s full take in the FS1 video below.
Tom Brady is giving the @Buccaneers a belief system:

Cowherd comes up with some crazy shyte sometimes, but its hard to argue this one. Also have more depth at LB,WR, TE, and D Line than some of our past teams.

I totally agree
October 6th, 2020 at 6:14 am
I concur.

I stated yesterday the very same thing * But in Tampa Jameis lost the locker room, and the ownership by not showing progress over a 5 years. You have to produce consistantly or the guys are going to tune you out* And Cowherd states the same thing about Jameis. [Sunday was] why they brought Tom Brady into Tampa,” Cowherd said. “It’s not about ability. It’s about belief. The players stopped believing in Jameis Winston.” I have followed the Noles since 1979, and was a big Jameis supporter. I still hope he figures it out. He has plenty of talent. But like Warren Sapp said, what Jameis learned in the classroom never consistantly translated to the field of play. Jameis is one of only a few players to ever surpass 5000 yards is proof of talent, but the other side of the coin Jameis led the NFL in turnovers by a wide margin over a 5 year period of time. The absolute worst stat for a QB is turnovers, Interceptions and fumbles. This is where you lose your teamates respect and belief. It gets hard to look at your teamates in the eye if you are letting them down. We all saw the crappy defense that has been here for most of Jameis time in Tampa, and lack of a running game. But at the same time there is accountability and you want to see progression in a players career. I could say more but the point has been made. There is still plenty of time for Jameis to figure it out. I hope he does well but just not against the Bucs, lol. GO BUCS!!!

This is not a knock on Jameis. Jameis simply does not have what Brady has.

Great well thought out comments. 🙂

said this days ago when Jameis Joe was knocking Arians….might need a deprogramming session for writers here…WinSTUNNED lol

Just listening to all of the different player’s comments throughout the offseason painted this picture . They were fed up with Jaboo’s inconsistent play .

By simply not being a finger licking buffoon, Brady gains trust. The Bucs were force feeding Winston’s nonsense on guys that are far more talented at their respective positions. These guys all have egos and as i’ve said before….real recognizes real. Brady is the real deal…..he holds himself to the highest standards and displays that in every rep while delivering wins. Nobody respected Winston, even defenses dared us to throw because they knew it would likely work out in their favor.

It is probably really starting to sink in with Jameis now !
October 6th, 2020 at 7:31 am
I think you have to have the combination of Coaches, Talent & Belief to be really good……we have all that if we don’t let off the gas…..

This isn’t going to make the boys at Joe#3NutHuggers.com very happy!

@ August 1976 Buc: well said.
Jameis did lose the lockeroom, no doubt. None of his Buc teammates shed tears when he was not brought back.
That comeback may be the turning point in this 2020 season.
(And I would have loved to hear Arians 90 second halftime rant. What’s the over/under on F-bombs launched? 35? 40?)

The ‘winning mindset’ is/has always been the issue.
’99 through ’02 we found that mindset. It didn’t come from our quarterback.
Yes, Tommy has brought it in this time, but the entire team has to ‘buy in’.
It is what Belicheat brought to the Patriots, more so than good coaching.
The Patriots have proven over the past 20 years that you don’t need the top talent to win as long as the talent you have knows that they “will” win. Notice that I didn’t use the word ‘can’ there.
We have the GOAT at quarterback.
Remember, he was chosen in the 6th round of the draft. He was looking forward to a career back-up position, retirement after 6 years. He got his chance, he “bought in”, he became the GOAT, and now we have the chance to learn from him what he learned in 20 years under Belichick.
With all of his talent, I think JW would thrive on a team with the right mindset. Just don’t look for him to bring it to the team. He needs to find a team that already has it that will give him a chance. Hey, I buy lottery tickets, you never know…..

The 6 time SB winning, multiple pro bowl attending, real mr. entertainment and real america’s quarterback tom brady!

The team, the town, the league, the media all loves TB in TB. Let’s win on TNF and keep the happy sunshine train rolling down the track.
It’s the feel good story in a very prickly year.

The Man of Six Rings. Kool.

“the players stopped believing in Winston”
that’s the beginning and end of it. at some point the wins have to come or guys cease to believe you can make it happen. Mariota and Goff, both lesser QBs than Jameis in my opinion, both got there from a team standpoint largely by running the plays as designed and not actively harming a team with enough talent to win games. Winston never got there, and his most brilliant moments often just made up for his own mistakes that game rather than being the plays that put a game to bed.
I really do hope Winston lives up to his promise (outside the NFC South), but when his mistakes in Year 5 were some of the defining obstacles of a team that was good enough for the postseason, it was just too risky to stick with him when more reliable (although supposedly less flashy) options were out there
October 6th, 2020 at 2:41 pm
Not saying Jameis is Brady, not even close, but stooopppp saying what Jameis has never done (down by 17, come back against the Colts down 35- 21, came back and won the game 38 – 35) – Also JW’s rookie year 2015 Jameis threw for 5 TD’s against the Eaglets.
October 6th, 2020 at 4:13 pm
Just like its not a knock against Precious for calling Kate Beckinsale hot, nobody really cares if Winston’s feelings are hurt.
Well except for NDOG.
His feelings get hurt everyday.
Has got to be on Prozac at this point.
I mean like an IV.
October 6th, 2020 at 4:59 pm
Why does anyone care about the Saints 3rd String QB?
October 6th, 2020 at 6:39 pm
Rrsrq that’s 14 points do the math!
October 6th, 2020 at 7:06 pm
It’s really too bad Jameis couldn’t have stayed here as a backup. He could have learned a lot from Brady. Jameis has a ton of talent, but didn’t ever understand what it was to be a real leader. Maybe he will get another chance.
October 6th, 2020 at 10:16 pm
Cowherd irks me and I usually avoid him, but I can believe what he is saying here. Of course the best player to ever play the game is going to have more clout than a talented, but erratic player that has only proven that he is talented and erratic.
