“D-Linemen On Advil”
September 29th, 2020As you will hear on the next edition of the “Ira Kaufman Podcast,” Uncle Ira once again bemoans the inability of the Bucs’ offensive line to run block.
It seems Kyle Brandt watches a different game than Uncle Ira.
Brandt got all fired up this morning in his weekly segment called “Angry Runs,” and he was swinging a baseball-bat-turned scepter around in hyper giddiness over Ronald Jones turning a typical Ronald Jones run to nowhere into a seven-yard game by never stopping his churning wheels.
More importantly, Brandt was worked up the way the Bucs’ offensive line kept hammering Denver defenders to guide Jones on his Mike Alstott-like bulldozing of the Broncos’ interior.
Brandt particularly called out Ali Marpet and said Marpet has started a band named after what he does to defenders after a hard day’s work on Sundays.
“D-Linemen on Advil.”
You can see Brandt go crazy about RoJo’s angry run in the NFL Network video below.

Donovan Smith deserves no credit for this play. He loafs. Badly.
September 29th, 2020 at 12:28 pm
Was that the play where Donovan Smith forgot that the whistle hadn’t blown while the rest of the O-line was pushing and grinding?
Lazy dude.

Run blocking is the biggest issue for the Bucs. Fontenot barely got past the line of scrimmage. RJ fought thru tackles to get his 3.9 average. Run game is our weakness so far. The last two games were against weak completion. There are much tougher opponents in a few weeks. If the run sputters against those teams we won’t get to the playoffs by only beating our weakest opponents.
September 29th, 2020 at 12:39 pm
Don’t run.
Bucs are built to pass. They have two, possibly three Hall of Famers in the pass game. Teams only get so many snaps a game. No sense slamming your head against the wall doing something you can’t do. Play to your strength.
September 29th, 2020 at 12:40 pm
o-line has played better….
d.smith is who he is….as long as we’re winning, he good enough for me not to bash him….
GO BUCS!!!!!!

Jensen literally carried Ro. Kyle looks like a pro wrestler, Peter lost a bit of weight.
September 29th, 2020 at 1:06 pm
it was a good, angry run. I see these in most games with NFL running backs. It was atypical for Rojo. Maybe that’s why it stands out, but It was no where near an A-Train effort.
September 29th, 2020 at 1:35 pm
Awesome run, but man, it really highlights D. Smith, and not in a good way.
September 29th, 2020 at 2:05 pm
Not to run isn’t the answer Joe. Getting better at it is, and you only do that by running. Bucs have 2 (and possibly 4) excellent RBs, and we have a 43-year-old QB who NEEDS an effective running game to stay upright for a full season.
Ours is a very well-paid offensive line that’s got plenty of beef to it; no excuses for not being able to get at least 4 YPC on average. And if they can average that CONSISTENTLY, no reason why we can’t run on 40-45% of our plays. Keep the defense guessing.
September 29th, 2020 at 2:09 pm
You and Joe clearly have different definitions of “excellent.”
The more you play to your weakness, the greater the odds grow you don’t score (and therefore, lose). Running is the Bucs’ weakness. Until Fournette begins starting.
September 29th, 2020 at 2:19 pm
For such a highly paid o line they literally get ZERO push in the run game. It’s almost as pathetic as Byron’s 1st down run calls.
September 29th, 2020 at 2:22 pm
Stop the video a 6:32 when the DM grabs RoJo’s foot.
D. Smith deserves Criticism but on this play? He literally is the lone Buc standing between RoJo and 6 Broncos.
Just my observation but he held his guy which allowed RoJo to get inside and then he stared down 6 Broncos.
Maybe he used a Jedi Mind Trick?

My bad, 4:02

***************************************************************
agree with you there Joe…
excellent means proven production imo…..thats fournette….shady is a change of pace at this point in his career while rojo is still trying to put it all together….
the run game will continue to get better….but right now, our strength is passing to our weapons which includes our RBs….
GO BUCS!!!!

All I care about is if the o-line is keeping Brady upright, and so far, they’re doing pretty well.
Number of hurries: 2, ranked #35 (or #1 in terms of least number of hurries)
Hits on Brady: 7, ranked #16
Number of pressures: 14, ranked #31 (31 is good, 1 would be the worst)
Pressures per drop back: 12.1%, ranked #33 (the best in the NFL)
So for all the whining about the o-line, they’ve done a good job giving Brady time and keeping defenders off him.
September 29th, 2020 at 2:44 pm
…as for the running game, same thing as when Dirk was here… Pass to setup the run, and stop those stupid 1st down runs up the middle – mix it up.
Also, while I think Rojo and Fournette are fine and doing their jobs as well as they can given how incredibly predictable the run game is, I’d like to see McCoy in there on 1st down to at least make the defenses think you’re going to pass. If Leftwich did that, then maybe his ‘surprize’ 1st down run up the middle might actually work for more than 1.7 yards per attempt.
September 29th, 2020 at 2:46 pm
Finally, one last thing…
1st and 10 – A-OK to come out in a no back set
3rd and 1 – A-OK to jam it up the middle
Leftwich seems to have gotten his coaches instruction manual with that info reversed.
September 29th, 2020 at 3:15 pm
rod
BL knows exactly what he’s doing….unlike you, he doesnt need a football manual…
he’s winning games…..
stop b!tchin!!!!
GO BUCS!!!!
September 29th, 2020 at 3:16 pm
Joe, they rushed for a whopping 68 yards!
September 29th, 2020 at 3:28 pm
He needs to do that just a bit more often. Here’s hoping he can.
September 29th, 2020 at 4:11 pm
@Joe … “Running is the Bucs’ weakness. Until Fournette begins starting.”
I’m guessing that we both believe that Fournette is a better overall RB than RoJo is Joe, but just looking at the Broncos game, Rojo averaged 4 YPC while Leonard averaged 2 YPC running behind the same OLine against the same defense. Not saying that RoJo is as good as Fournette, but he’s no slouch either.
The whole thing about the running game to me is that it’s situational. Sometimes it works great to use the run to set up the passing game; other times the opposite is true IMO. I’m concerned about Brady’s long-term health if we don’t establish a strong running game. Watched too many teams last year tee off against Jameis because they knew we couldn’t run for beans. Personally I think it’s more play-design and play-selection than anything else, but every time I say that 813bucboi has a fit so I won’t say it.
September 29th, 2020 at 4:31 pm
DR
lol…i dont have a fit…
i try to educate you…but im done trying…
BL will just continue to show you that what he’s doing produces Ws….
GO BUCS!!!!!
September 29th, 2020 at 4:39 pm
Well, that was entertaining! Love to see the Bucs O-Lineman getting some love!
September 29th, 2020 at 5:24 pm
The carries the past 2 games and some people’s perception of who is “winning” is based on who fumbles. Rojo did it against the Panther’s and Fournette got a chance to shine in that game then reversed the situation against the Broncos.
September 29th, 2020 at 5:35 pm
Can someone please page Pete Mangurian geesh
September 29th, 2020 at 10:46 pm
The way I see it, RoJo has more hart than Fournet….I’m not that impressed with 4Net because he doesn’t fight for yards like RoJo does…and that last long touchdown run if his (Fournet) that’s got everybody so fired up about..for me it was just ok and I believe he got lucky with the blocking and the element of surprise…..let me see him do it again and consistently for me to give him that “great” status you all are giving him…imho

A typical Joe (LDK) article where there are maybe 5 or 6 sentences of substance and the rest of the article is either derogatory or filled with nicknames any frat boy with no college credits could splice together.
You claim to be honest. Ok give your honest opinion. Let those who agree with you, agree. Let those who disagree, disagree.
We already know you didn’t care for Dare or Nassib. We already know you don’t care for Devin White nor Rojo, and you won’t make critical comments about Donovan Smith or your beloved Jaboo-Boo.
You for some reason like to ride derogatory journalism to another level. I don’t know if it’s some thought in your head that you are Duemig or what, but In my humble opinion you come off as a glorified troll. If that is your goal, well done and disregard all of this post.
It has nothing to do with agreeing or disagreeing with your opinion. Sometimes I agree, sometime I don’t. But I’m unsure how I can digest anything you type up anymore. It holds no integrity with me.
Since you won’t differentiate between the Joe articles, I guess I will be limited reading only Ira’s content from here on out.
Good luck & GO BUCS!

Please disregard my last post.
After watching an interview with LDK at the scouting combine by The Sports Courier it is all so clear now.
“…..we want to run a tabloid style site….”
have fun with your shock & awe.
