“Ho-Hum”
September 30th, 2020It seems a stenographer working for an NFL rightsholder was bored with the Bucs on Sunday.
In going through every game to offer grades, Breech was unimpressed by the Bucs in their win over Denver, but he said it was good enough for a win.
A ho-hum performance for the Buccaneers, but that was all they needed to beat this lifeless Broncos team ravaged with injuries. Tom Brady had three passing touchdowns, the first time he’s accomplished that in a Buccaneers uniform, as Tampa was able to have its way in the passing game. Brady going to eight different receivers is a plus, especially since the Buccaneers lost Chris Godwin in the second half with a hamstring injury. Scotty Miller (83 yards) had a breakout performance. Shaquil Barrett recorded his first two sacks of the season and recorded a safety, which was fitting for him since the Broncos allowed him to leave in free agency before the 2019 season. Overall, the Buccaneers defense finished with six sacks in total. Tampa Bay beat a team they were supposed to and are over .500 for the first time since Week 3 of the 2018 season.
At least offensively, Joe was in this camp. If anything, Joe was frustrated with how the offense died in the second half and allowed the Broncos to creep back into the game.
The Bucs’ defense, solid as it is, was on the field too much in the second half.
But then Joe thought differently. The Broncos, despite being 0-2 entering the game, only lost by one score to a playoff team from last year and an expected playoff team this year. And in the loss to the Titans to start the season, which Joe watched, questionable use of clock management in the final minute may have cost the Broncos a chance to win.
So when Joe looked at the game through a different prism, that the Broncos were in both games they played prior to Sunday, it put the Bucs’ win in a better perspective for Joe.
(As far as Breech’s grades, he gave the Bears an “A” solely for benching MVP Mitch Trubisky.)

Joe- I agree the Broncos are a well coached team and probably better than their record indicates, but there is no denying the offense looked pretty meh in the second half. We had opportunities to bury the Broncos that we can’t pass up if we want to be a serious contender. I’m thrilled with the win and am in no way complaining, but there is massive room for improvement on the offensive side of the ball.

We need to remember the Broncos had 10 points at halftime.
Their final point total was 10 points.
The second half is where the Bucs D put the choke hold on their opponent. Why take more risk than necessary? Look at the Falcons last two weeks.
Last year, absolutely inappropriate against the Giants to go all turtle because the defense was still replete with Mike Smith stench.
Today? You have a big lead then your D gives you 2 points. Don’t be stupid.
Let’s have wins not fantasy stats.

Seems obvious there are two coordinators trying to get job done. One is a good bit better at it than the other

The offense is more boring so far- but also more efficient.
And as noted in the previous article- fast starts! Now we just need to learn how to finish teams- as we have some opponents coming up who are FAR BETTER than the Broncos or Panthers.

The defense balled out. The offense certainly got stymied in the second half. We had the potential to score more points, but played too much buc ball with penalties, drops, and poor running in the second half. I expect things to continue improving.

A win I will take, but here comes the Monsters of the Midway, THE RAIDERS and the CHEESE-HEADS, teams with far better defenses, and yea don’t forget them SLIMY SAINTS! This team needs to pull a few rabbits out of the hat…What I would love to see is a game where the run game is dominate, over powering, consistent, at least I would know it is there.

Perhaps they are doing some triad to find more efficient plays inthe 2nd half when they have a lead. They probably master only about half of the playbook.

It is totally silly to criticize or minimize beating a team your supposed to beat. How many times have we played down to the level of our opponents and made third string QBs look like HOF candidates? We have been doing that for over a decade. This was a nice win and as wins accumulate, so does confidence and team resiliency. Every win makes us stronger. This soft schedule to start the year is just what the doctor ordered.

Sauron’s eye … Excellent observations; spot on, and especially about the penalties. Bucs continue to shoot themselves in the foot with penalties. Game against the Broncos is a classic example.
Bucs had 9 penalties for 103 yds against the Saints (loss), but only 5 penalties against the Panthers for 37 yds (win). Then we got sloppy again against the Broncos with 9 penalties for 71 yds (win but the penalties were very costly).
Bucs had only 1 penalty (against offense) in 1st qtr against the Broncos. Result: killed drive … punted.
Bucs had only 1 penalty (against defense) in 2nd qtr in that game. Result: Broncos capitalized & scored a TD later in that drive.
Bucs had 3 penalties in the 3rd qtr of the Broncos game: 1 S/Ts penalty on a kickoff (no real impact), and 2 penalties against our OLine on 2 separate drives. Result: penalties killed BOTH drives … punted.
Bucs had 4 penalties in the 4th qtr of the Broncos game: 1 penalty was against our OLine (killed another drive … punted); and 3 penalties were against our DLine on the same drive (ultimately no impact because of Edwards’ INT later in the drive).
So altogether the Bucs had 4 offensive penalties (killed 4 drives); 4 defensive penalties (only 1 had any real impact); and 1 S/Ts penalty (no impact). Still, the 71 yds lost to penalties is more yardage than our running game produced in 25 plays (68 yds rushing). Penalties are not a good thing.

Hey Joe. Any chance of a commenter’s podcast being featured on JBF? Do it as a call in show. I think it could be entertaining as heck.

It was a bad performance by Brady and the Bucs. If Jameis was QB it would no doubt have been a blowout and a very impressive performance. #TradeBrady BringBackFamousJameis

Jameis almighty, your joking me right?! Hahhah. Jameis would of thrown 3 picks one for a pick 6. I was a huge Winston guy backed him for 5 years. Dude just could not learn to stop throwing the ball to the other team. I watch Brady am not stressing picks every time 3 dropped back I was nervous. Jameis. Psh

3 TD’s is a bad game? That all the more shows they are light years ahead of where this team has been for the lost decade. The Bucs are major work in progress right now, and still able to sleep walk in Denver and WIN! Winning is fun and losing s*cks. GO BUCS!!!!
September 30th, 2020 at 9:17 am
Anything less than perfection and 30 point blowouts will be seen as failure on the part of the Bucs offense. For better or for worse, there are high expectations placed upon them. Still, I will take an 18 point win where the game is never in question every week with a smile.
September 30th, 2020 at 10:29 am
I would like to see the first down run percentage for each half. I think the Bucs were content to sit on the lead in the second half because the defense was dominant. No risk it when you already think you have the bisqiut. Come on LEFTIT, open up the passing game for 4 quarters.

This is not a offense led team this is a defense led team with a ok running game and a game manager at quarterback . And I’m loving it but yall need to get off the Brady balling stuff because he’s not balling at all . He’s doing good enough to win and that’s alright . But all summer long yall though 1 that it will be the same play book and I told yall that it wasn’t going to be the same plays that Jamies had last year . I told yall that we will be a balance offense that we will run the ball more . Yall blame Jamies for the run the game last year and I told yall that we just didn’t call run plays .

Win on the road in Denver I’ll take it
Have not won there since 1993 that’s a long time
September 30th, 2020 at 2:21 pm
I will take the smart game manager quarterback. I’ve been jealously watching the Pats play boring offense through the era of Freeman and Winston and I am enjoying my boring offense – can’t even sit down while it’s happening.
More boring offense, please.

Tom Brady threw 2 1 yard touchdowns and yall think he was balling lol . I told all yall that Bruce Arians will change his playbook for Brady . And I told all yall that Bruce Arians offense was a trash playbook . Jamies never got a chance to play in a offense like this so yall really can’t bash him for Bruce Arians trash playbook . So now we know it was the plays and not Jamies . They are trying to give Brady a running game that they never gave Jamies . If Bruce Arians was so great why did he change all his plays to short 3 to 4 yards throws but had Jamies throwing 10 to 20 yards a throw ??? Lol 😆🤣 . Facts !!!!
