Obviously, Joe has written plenty about yesterday’s glorious Buccaneers home victory.
But here are additional nuggets, including a loaf alert, after Joe’s second look (before Joe’s third look).
*More first half drops from O.J. Howard, two by Mike Evans and one by LeSean McCoy. And none of those include the three touchdown-pass drops during the game. Messy.
*Overall, Will Gholston was more effective pass rushing inside than Vita Vea, who had an up and down day.
*Devin White isn’t there yet against the pass.
*Antoine Winfield, Jr. sure gives off a Rondé Barber vibe when he’s blitzing. And Joe would like to thank whoever taught Winfield how to tackle. Thank you!
*Not the best day for Alex Cappa but good enough.
*Lavonte David’s forced fumble and recovery on Robbie Anderson was such a thing of beauty.
*Loaf alert. Loaf, loaf, loaf. Rob Gronkowski totally loafed after Tom Brady threw an interception to Donte Jackson on a pass intended for Gronk. There is no debate. Gronk mailed it while Jackson had plenty of room to run. Inexplicably (and thankfully), Jackson literally ran out of bounds for no good reason at the Bucs’ 49 yard line with Tom Brady and couple of offensive linemen to beat.
*Joe loves when it takes four guys to tackle Leonard Fournette.
*With the Bucs leading 21-14 and 3rd-and-5 at the Tampa Bay 42 yard line, officials missed a clear false start by Donovan Smith. It would have been declined regardless after an incompletion, but you can’t do that at home with no fans.
*3rd-and-8 at the Carolina 15 with 6:20 remaining, Tristan Wirfs gets beaten and Tom Brady avoids the pressure, scrambles right and throws a sure touchdown pass to LeSean McCoy. Drop! Ugly moment, but it was great to see Brady had that kind of movement and freelance play in him.
*Bucs defense looked a little gassed in the fourth quarter. Just an observation.

Leonard fournette needs to be the starting running back. The order should be .1. fournette 2. Mccoy. 3. Jones.

It’s nice not to have to overcome 7 turnovers when we play the panthers like last year. Our D was able to flip the script and cause 5. The offense will get a little better every week. Time to go with Leonard as the bell cow and mccoy on 3rd downs some

agreed on the defense looking gassed but offense did them no favours in the second half and kept putting them on the field.

Yes, good notes, Joe. Winfield continues to amaze. So quick to assess ant to the tackle. What a pick. Brady did fine. And will get even better.

I’m sure you’re right Joe, but can’t recall the 3rd dropped pass for a TD. I recall the ones to Miller and McCoy. What was the other one?
Would still like to see the TEs more involved. Don’t think Brate had a single target, at least I don’t remember one. I’m about ready to jettison OJ. Just no consistency. He has the attributes, but has yet to show any consistency.
Any word on Godwin’s status?

When can Tampa play a full game. Why is it we can start out good the 1st half but then go lay an egg in the 3rd quarter? I can’t lie when the score got cut to 21 to 14 I got worried. Offensive line needs more work but I’m happy to get the win. Big test Sunday in Denver. Thats a hell of a Defense but we are a better team.

They used Fournette near the end more because he was fresh and the Panthers were tired. Was smart to do that.

winfield huge open field tackle on 22; where in past that guy hits his head on the goal post; whithead can tackle as well but winfield is a great find

this is exactly what i was tell another poster who was critical of the playcalling!!!!!!!
the playcalling was great all game…3TDs were dropped….perfect play calls….three daggers missed…not by the OC…not by brady but by the WR…..
defense played great for 3quarters….they were gassed in the 4th….nunez roches had a costly penalty and the defense started to give up big plays….
if it wasnt for the run game BL established thru out 4quarters, fournette doesnt seal the deal….CARs defense was more gassed as ours….

The third quarter also had me worried. I like the step on the throat strategy and not the overemphasis on the run out the clock. Brady only had a 49 % quarterback rating in the third quarter. Part of that might be forced passing down on the third down when the first two runs didn’t get enough yardage I would like to see passing on second and two for instance and more first down passes.

My goodness. The Fournette TD rum was there because the Panthers knew the game was over, under 2 min and only 2 TO’s. You can see they are spread across the line and minimal effort was applied. Before the run game that everyone is bragging about had about 80 yards total.
Gonna need a better run game to make a dent in the playoffs.

False start would have been before the snap, so it wouldn’t have been declined. Would have turned that 3rd and 5 into a 3rd and 10… yuck.
Gronk appears to be a waste of a roster spot at this point.

Lots of work needed, good game for us but makes it obvious so much to work on–which is good. So many ways for this team to get better.

The team is starting to learn itself and create a identity as Brady becomes more familiar the trust will build from him and the rest of the offense, hopefully we can get a win in Denver as this things continues to grow. The first game we showed our talent but had a bad scheme against the saints, fortunately Carolina is in the same boat as us developing a chemistry and our talent was much better. Denver should be also similar in that they don’t have a true identity yet. These are the games we need to win from effort and talent as we should gel quicker than most as Brady is very good at adapting to multiple situations as he had to in New England. We do need to establish Fournette as lead back as he showed a stability that we must have going forward, hopefully Godwin will be able to play in Denver and we will get a better chance to see what we have with him and Evans and Miller, cause once they establish themselves the Tight end play should become better as the field opens up.

I would like to see a stat of rushing yards in the 4th quarter for a team ahead by 7 or more points.
How many yards and yards per carry.

We did better on turnovers…..penalties & special teams…..that’s what most of our games will depend on…..keep it up and we’ll win a lot of games.
If Gronk was loafing, it won’t be missed by BA or Brady…..count on it.

Gronk is a $10 million a year left tackle. He looks useless in the passing game, slow and lacking confidence. His blocking looks good. He drew a PI that he should have made the catch on.

@joebucsfan The false start would have been a dead ball, a penitently you cannot decline. In this case, Smith’s bad play would have given us another shot since the play resulted in an incompletion.

Donovan is offsides on nearly all plays.
I guess he figures he’s doing a good job by doing that, but it’s probably so he can get the jump because his skills ain’t all that.
Kinda reminds me of a certain DT and his incredible first step to nowhere.

Will Gholston was a more effective pass rusher than Vea? Maybe. I saw Vea in the backfield a lot. I’d say Vea is part of the reason why Gholston and Suh are effective.
The more accurate and inflammatory statement would have been, “Gholston is a more effective pass rusher than Shaq.”

They were definitely gassed in the 4th. Absolutely zero rotations for Shaq and JPP. They were constantly on the field. I get they are fantastic, but after rushing the passer all game with no break they are going to slow down. They rotated the DTs and DEs all game. Do Quinton Bell and Anthony Nelson even exist? When we up 21-0 couldn’t they have gotten some playing time and given Shaq and JPP a break?

It seems our team always looks gassed at the beginning of every season. I’m positive it’s from the continued practicing in the extreme heat all summer. When the weather begins to cool the team starts to usually play better and keep their legs and stamina till the end.

I second the motion on Winfield JR. He looks solid. Good tackler not out of position he will get better as he gets more opportunities.
Devin white looked slow in pass coverage yesterday. Wasn’t sure if it was late in the game and the heat was getting to him but didn’t look good late. in the past he has looked lightning quick.
Vita Vea is a good player but really starting to disappoint. He is in his third season now and should be blossoming into his prime and dominating. Instead he plays first and second downs and really isn’t in the game on passing downs.

Like sest said, you can’t decline false start. It’s a dead ball foul. What happens after the false start is irrelevant because the whistle would have been blown.

If Donavan Smith did a false start and it had be called that is a presnap penalty…the play would have been replayed andturnover null.

I gotta say Joe’s, great observations. Should have kept Tanner Hudson. At least he tries. O. J. Howard is playing more like Moe Howard. Gronk, I really expect better of him. He needs to know coming out of retirement and playing in Florida is not a vacation. Tell him I said that. Next time he loafs he becomes the team baker to make bread.

That makes sense since they haven’t been playing games. I guess it was a good thing it wasn’t hot on Sunday if that was the case, but you’d like to think that if it was hot it would be to Tampa’s advantage. Why practice in the heat and humidity if you’re just going to be out of gas anyways?
With that said, I think it’s fair to say the Panthers defense was gassed in the 4th, certainly on that long run by Fournette they looked out of gas.

Did anyone see Sean Murf fling Samuels like a rag doll after a block. Did you count how many times Cappa was on the ground. He was getting man handled all game. Him and Donovan need to stay off the ground. All good offensive lineman stay on there feet. We need some big man foot work drill big time.
I love Ali the enforcer. Reminds me of that Seattle game when he got on Jaron Reed for that cheap shot. Marpet the Masher. JPP got pancaked. Devin tackle CMC with #71 on his back and slam both of them to the ground. Freak of nature. Anybody who ride horses or close with horse are different humans.
