Defensive Rookie Of The Year Candidate Emerges
September 20th, 2020What a freakin’ all-around performance for Antoine Winfield, Jr.
After two games, the only new starter on the Bucs defense looks exactly like the plug-and-play stud safety Bucs fans dreamed of on Day 2 of the NFL Draft.
Winfield already has displayed his speed and quickness, showing the game isn’t too fast for him. And his sack/strip today against the Panthers was evidence of his excellent awareness and instincts.
Tack on Winfield racking up eight solo tackles and three assists today, and a QB hit, and Joe thinks Winfield has to be considered a defensive rookie of the year candidate.
For Joe, what makes Winfield so exciting is that he has not slowed down (and will not) the Bucs’ maturing defense. Todd Bowles isn’t going to have to dial anything back to accommodate the rookie.
What is this kid going to look like when he gets more experience? The Panthers have a talented trio of receivers and their offense certainly isn’t bad.
If Winfield hauls in a pick next week and plays well overall, Joe might almost apologize for the mean thoughts of Bucs officials after Tampa Bay drafted safety Justin Evans in 2017.

WHOA!!!!!
slow down joe………..there’s still like 14 games to go bro
September 20th, 2020 at 5:03 pm
Winfield is a stud.
Change my mind.
September 20th, 2020 at 5:05 pm
Yeah, but the Bucs needed a RB in the 2nd round, they had to get a RB in the 2nd round.

Love this kid! Playmaker on D !
September 20th, 2020 at 5:12 pm
Sorry, off topic, but just looking at the box scores across the NFL and I just remembered the Falcon’s collapse again. LOL!
September 20th, 2020 at 5:18 pm
yep my thoughts too, one word outstanding
September 20th, 2020 at 5:20 pm
Might have a keeper.
September 20th, 2020 at 5:20 pm
Also Devin White with 15 tackles – 11 solo… That’s a hell of a day.
September 20th, 2020 at 5:21 pm
Agree 100%

Anthem
You are my favorite troll! Seriously I’m finding you entertaining.
So after spending all afternoon low renting the Buc players as failures…needing to be cut…after TWO games you now want to point out that two games is not a large enough sample size to judge a success but it is large enough to judge a failure. That’s truly rich
BTW I agree with your latest opinion…two games is not enough to anoint anybody anything…loser or winner. I’ll take a closer look at midseason when we regroup for the playoff run.

Don’t forget Devin White! He was in almost every play and kept CMC under wraps for the most part!
September 20th, 2020 at 5:42 pm
Winfield and Whitehead were all pro today!!!
September 20th, 2020 at 5:45 pm
Yeah, you can tell Winfield is a student of the game. He is definitely plug and play ready!
September 20th, 2020 at 5:45 pm
Antoine Winfield was a very good player, and it looks as though the apple didnât fall far from the tree.
September 20th, 2020 at 5:49 pm
Oh, and I know from the NFL Draft coverage, Junior has a hot Mom!
September 20th, 2020 at 6:01 pm
Hot mom??????? ^^^^^^^
…..wait, what kind of a website is this again??????
September 20th, 2020 at 6:07 pm
The major difference with Winfield is that he’s a SURE-THING TACKLER.
That’s what the Bucs have missed over the past few years at safety. Too many missed tackles and “whiffs.”
Winfield moves well, gets to the ball, and makes solid tackles. Amazing what difference great fundamentals can do.

Wirf looked good again today
GO BUCS
September 20th, 2020 at 6:16 pm
It’s only two games but Winfield looks phenomenal.
September 20th, 2020 at 6:17 pm
Wirfs did play well and we should give Donavan Smith credit too. He played a good game.

“He’s a little Gopher. You know what a Gopher is? It’s a little rodent, they destroy beautiful farmland. He destroys offensive coordinators beautiful plays”

Love this guy winefield good pick and maybe in the next 6 years we should draft his lil brother . That kid ran a 4 7 at age of 10 . My nephew played up against him in little league football in the woodlands Texas .

“If Winfield hauls in a pick next week and plays well overall, Joe might almost apologize for the mean thoughts of Bucs officials after Tampa Bay drafted safety Justin Evans in 2017.”
Yes, but if DW45 does the same, will you no longer be “done with the Bucs”?
Or would it take a DPOY title?

Bucs fans did not dream of a plug and play safety. Bucs fans dreamed of jk Dobbins or cam Akers (lol) and they need to be called out and choke on crow. Bucs have an all-pro caliber safety so you guys can swallow that nice and good

TheBucsAnthem: A website where I (we?) can appreciate beauty.
September 20th, 2020 at 9:26 pm
Gofortheface30 – You are correct, sir. The people here were whining and complaining about not taking a RB.
September 20th, 2020 at 9:49 pm
Pissed I had to work today and didn’t get to watch the game. But what I’ve seen in the Saints game and today’s highlights he looks like what was expected. All over the field hard hitter. He’s already looking like a Bowels safety. Not long before he can get his hands on the ball.

damn good draft pick really worked out for us, we passed on the running back in the draft (CEH was already long gone) now we have Antoine Winfield and Leonard Fournette as our back(1st rd #4 overall)–really liking that and Fournette hasn’t lost a step–as powerful as ever
September 20th, 2020 at 11:18 pm
Had to work late today so I DVR’d the game. Antoine Winfield Jr. Was by far the best defensive player on the field today period. His instincts are veteran like. Also, Thank God…or at least Jacksonville for Leonard Fournette Lol.
Go Bucs!
