Requirements For Retiring “Den Of Depression”

Time to end the streak!
Joe calls the Bucs’ home stadium the “Den of Depression” for one simple reason: the Bucs have not had a winning record at home in a season since 2008.
It’s a great stain on the records of Team Glazer, Jason Licht, Mark Dominik and their six head coaches in those 11 seasons.
Is it a cruel coincidence that the Bucs lose at home while most of the NFL wins at home? Sadly, it’s not. It’s a byproduct of a franchise-wide mess and a weak mentality that hopefully is mopped up and slapped into shape this season by Tom Brady and Year 2 of the Bucco Bruce Arians regime.
Joe often is asked what it will take to stop typing “Den of Depression.” Joe’s reply is simple: “Win more than you lose at home in a season.”
It’s not too much to ask.
The Bucs should win today against the Panthers in Tampa, the home-opener without fans, courtesy of The Sickness. A loss would be unthinkable.
It’s critical to establish a home-field advantage. Eventually, fans will return to stadiums and where games are played will matter more than they do now.
Last year, the Bucs were awful at home and Joe sure hopes this is one area in which Brady is a real difference-maker. Something has been dreadfully wrong with how the Bucs perform on their home turf. It’s not just bad luck, and perhaps Brady will be the guy to discover what’s been missing and already has fixes in place.

Lou is a good man and one of if not the most passionate Bucs fan Joe has ever met. Whenever the Bucs lose, Joe always thinks how awful Lou takes it.
Lou personifieds how Bucs fans are passionate about the team and all the losing has kicked them in the balls week after week for decades. Lou lives, eats, breathes for Bucs football year-round.
Joe tries to write with fans like Lou in mind. It’s God, family and Bucs football for Lou, and not always in that order.

That is a fair metric required to retire the name.
Meanwhile I wonder how much choking has gone on in the “Den”? I mean besides the obvious choker JW who played much better on the road…but he wasn’t the only one!
It’s almost as if having OUR fans watching them with the expectations of winning that go with a home game tightened our collars.
I’m not sure this season will really tell us about the Den. I want to see how the Bucs perform next year when they come home to a game with high expectations and a sellout.
