Bucs Coach Talks About “Undercover” Bucs Coach
September 17th, 2020This post reminds Joe of former Bucs defensive tackle Gerald McCoy talking about how he didn’t have any mentors during his rookie season.
One might have thought Pro Bowl guard and fellow Oklahoma Sooner Davin Joseph would have helped guide McCoy in 2010, but apparently it wasn’t significant assistance.
New Bucs rookie right tackle Tristan Wirfs, however, has plenty of peer guidance. Harold Goodwin, Bucs assistant head coach and run game coordinator (the latter title Goodwin might want to wipe off his resume), explained on Bucs Total Access this week.
While Wirfs says Donovan Smith is his go-to guy, Goodwin said Wirfs has a secret mentor — who no longer is a secret.
“Undercover-wise, you know who is the O-line coach on the defensive line? It’s Suh,” Goodwin said. “Suh does a great job of talking to those guys and giving them pointers of what he sees.”
Goodwin went on to praise Suh’s ability to teach what he’s seen from offensive linemen that works and doesn’t work.
Of course, Goodwin confirmed what Bucs fans saw with their own eyes, that Wirfs had a strong rookie debut in New Orleans against a Pro Bowl edge defender. Nothing terribly for Wirfs there, Goodwin explained, noting Jason Pierre-Paul and Shaq Barrett almost fight for chances to face Wirfs in practice.
“It’s funny because they rotate to try to get him in 1-on-1 pass rush in practice. They want to test him,” Goodwin said.
Indeed the Bucs have quite an incubator for Wirfs. Joe hopes he hatches quickly into an elite right tackle. The Bucs could use a stud tackle.

Coaching is great but Suh needs to stay on side……

Those two dudes need to fight over who gets to beat Donoloaf like a drum during practice to get him to play with some fire and consistency .

Suh is a great man.
September 17th, 2020 at 6:47 pm
That’s why when I hear people say to drop Suh it makes me shake my head.
You see, you folks may not see it but Suh is a good man and clearly he wants to win. He anchors that ferocious front 7 and here he is teaching our O-line important knowledge.
You keep folks like Suh. Lose Suh lose your defensive intensity.
GO BUCS!!!

Suh is very intelligent and will likely be a great coach if he pursues coaching when he retires. He’s still strong and hard to move. I think the Bucs will come back strong, including Donovan Smith, and will beat the Panthers to a pulp. It could get ugly as they have a lot to prove. Tom Brady isn’t accustomed to losing, much less twice in a row. Look for TB to have a 400 yard plus air game. Js

HHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I’m laughing so hard at how much this site’s articles, and the comments, are going to dramatically change after the Bucs smash the Panthers and show what they’re capable of.
All the crybabies on this site will suddenly change their tune. Just wait and see.
The true football fans that understand the game and have seen the moments of great play from this team even in the Week 1 loss, know how good this team actually is. You don’t just hold one of the top offenses and QBs in football to five straight punts to start the 2nd half for nothing. And you don’t produce 340+ passing production yards (with PI calls included) for nothing.
This team is SPECIAL and insanely talented. We haven’t seen anything yet.

I would love to have the Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins. Oh man, this guy is the spark we can use at left tackle. He’s a talker, motivator, fighter, mic’d up true grit type player. He’s a beast mode offensive lineman. I’m sorry after 5 years in the league, DSmith Is an example of a slacker n loser.

I admire Suh, and his nasty streak. I sure hope he imparts some of that meanness to Wirfs!
Wirfs was quite the find, IMHO.
He will be an anchor of our O Line for many years to come.

Agree completely with Swampbuc… and I’m thinking Suh is to the D-line as Logan was to the O-line… wish Logan would come back to coach our O-line
September 17th, 2020 at 10:37 pm
Nothing like having the biggest loafer on the team infecting our new first rounder. D Smith sucks he is the definition of a swinging door. He gets blown by and makes no effort to recover. I can’t understand why Joe protects him on this site so much just because he doesn’t miss time. Who cares if you’re available if you give no effort?
September 17th, 2020 at 10:59 pm
Maybe Tom could give Logan a call… Seriously, maybe as an O-line advisor???
September 17th, 2020 at 11:06 pm
He was the definition of an “undercover” BUCS coach

Rays clinch a playoff spot, while the Lightning clinch a Stanley Cup final!
Go Rays!!

.
.
He might have tried. McCoy probably wanted a mentor more like him. Someone who could appreciate "having fun."
Joseph, IIRC, only had fun if he was winning.

Suh has a Jamaican mother and a Cameroonian father.
He is a very unique human being.
Hes not an “american idiot” as Green Day would say.
Suh has an International Mind and immigrant parents.
What a country!
E Pluribus Unum. “Out of many. We are One.”
Jah bless Suh and his Jamaican Mama.
One Love!

The only comparison between GMC and Suh is that they were drafted the same year. As a reformed “GMC apologist”, it is clear who the better player is.
Coach ’em up big fella!
September 18th, 2020 at 7:04 am
Maybe They should start trying to go against Donovan Smith in practice!

Lol I thought the same thing about that run as soon as DS limped off the field.
