NFL Mask Cops Crack Down On Failing Coaches

September 14th, 2020

Perhaps the Bucs should re-hire Greg Schiano as a discipline consultant specializing in mandatory mask-wearing policy on gameday.

“Masks over the nose! Masks over the nose! Toes on the line!”

Joe already can hear the former Bucs commander screaming at current Bucs QB coach Clyde Christensen, who seems to be the Bucs coach most disinterested in proper mask procedure mandated by the NFL.

During yesterday’s pants-soiling loss at New Orleans, Bucco Bruce Arians, a diligent and obedient mask guy, lost his way multiple times.

Today, the NFL fired off a stern letter to teams about the mask mandate. It’s in the Tweet from NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero below.

Maybe the NFL will come up with a creative penalty for these football scofflaws. For example, maybe a team will have to replace its starting left tackle for a series if a coach is spotted without a mask. Nah, that might always be a punishment.

Joe finds it a bit comical that the coaches are getting a finger-wagging today, considering most coaches are all about rules and discipline and accountability.

Joe would love to see Arians fine himself $20,000, and then take that cash, buy masks and donate them to a local high school, where a lot of kids could use new ones regularly.

Everyone in the world knows cloth masks are useless anyways

    …….all political

  2. ClodHopper Says:

    Interesting.

“Reflects the advice of infectious disease experts, club medical staffs” but then go on to say the masks “prevent” the spread.

There is no expert out there who says those masks prevent anything. Reduce maybe for some masks but not prevent. I know it’s a tiny word but it’s a huge difference.

  3. jjtixs Says:

CAN Arians fit a mask on that big head?????????????????? lol

  4. bucfanforver Says:

on a day that all of the Bucs coaches should have been hiding behind their masks in shame.

The best study I’ve seen/heard about, was on one of the Navy ships at sea where the virus spread. On that ship they tried different techniques to stop the spread, things like social distance, washing your hands, and wearing a mask. This wasn’t a full fledged scientific study, but it’s one of the better documented ones. In any case they found social distancing and washing your hands did very little to stop the spread. Wearing a mask did show some results however, it dropped the rate of infection by about 30%.

So masks do something – just not nearly as much as people claim. The same ‘experts’ saying to wear a mask now are the same ‘experts’ who said masks don’t work back in March (including Fauci and the WHO).

But they do something and in particular situations can help. If you’re in a crowded store at 5pm, then people should wear a mask. If you’re at a gas station at 1am and there’s 3 people in a big area, then no, masks likely do nothing. Also, outdoors, masks likely do nothing.

Arians however does fall into that category of people at serious risk and should consider wearing a mask. At the same time it should always be his decision – just like it should be everyone’s decision. The mask pushback would be nil if people weren’t lied to from the start and the real information was put out there and there was no mandates. Instead it’s become politics and virtue signaling.

  6. danr Says:

    Anthem.

The masks are (mostly) useless in filtering.

They are vastly useFULL in reducing the area the spit you spit out of your mouth travels, and how big the viral cloud hanging about your head is.

Its all about slowing down the particles as they exit the mouth.

Try blowing out a candle with one on. That’s the point.

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Perhaps the penalty is that we should have to forfeit that game…..

Whole league gets tested and comes back negative. The masks are pointless, virtue signaling, legal coverage by the league. It’s so embarrassing that we’ve fallen for this

would anyone else like to see the ghost of Deacon Jones shove a mask up Goodell’s a$$.

Wear the fricken mask. If it slips it slips. That’s all they can do.

  13. Buc1987 Says:

    Crack down all they want.

They should also force the Bucs to wear creamsicles until they start playing like a decent football team.

  14. adam from ny Says:

arians has a big beefy head, so a mask should fit snuggly over that noggin of his…

    his head ain’t as big a bruce bochy’s head…but big enough…lol

  16. mark2001 Says:

Wow Anthem…. everyone in the world of science and the intelligent sectors of the civilized world knows the masks have value. Don’t always work…but good luck to you and your loved ones. We may hit WWII fatality numbers if we don’t have a vaccine by early next year. But it is all a hoax. RIP.

  17. stpetebucsfan Says:

Until the “deniers” can explain how we have 4.5% of the population with 22.5% of the world’s deaths, how NYC got their horrid hot spot cooled with MASKS…how ALL the advanced nations of the world do better than us with MASKS why not stop revealing how incredibly IGNORANT of science you are!

Meanwhile…Andy Reid had the right idea. Scrw the masks and go to a face shield. Much more comfortable and less inhibiting when talking to players and other coaches.

Downside as we saw with Reid is face shields can fog, So…find a motorcycle shop and find a cloth designed to inhibit fogging. Perhaps BA will convert to the clear shields.

I know this is a sports blog…but this is like reading Scientific American and having those guys claim EXPERTISE at football and then turn around and point out how the single wing is the way to go in the NFL.

WTF ever happened to expertise in this country? About half our nation is too damn smart to value it because they simply say…I am the expert about everything. I don’t need no stinkin’ education.

  18. HC Says:

Perhaps the Bucs should rehire Ray Perkins. Play 2 tight ends on every play and run Jones up the middle. Quick kick on every third down and put a giant mask over the field to stop the odor of a stinking team, league and coach staff.
Only then will the true PC Social Justice stench of noxious fumes reach out to the bay area. It will be even better than the smell of rotten seaweed on Bayshore.

  19. mark2001 Says:

St. Pete…who needs expertise? Let your neighbor do your heart surgery. Let you garbageman invest your money. Let your wife rebuild your transmission. Let the neighbor kid build your next house. Let JoeBucs bloggers run the next NFL draft. Who needs experts?

  20. Bucnjim Says:

Since you guys are big on expert advice and stats the CDC posted that only 6% of Covid deaths are from Covid alone. The other 94% have an average of 2.5 other issue that could cause death. In the end the number one reason for actual death is pneumonia. Most illness in elderly people will cause pneumoniaicluding cancer, flu, cold, infection, and yes Covid. When you are in your 80’s or 90’s you are susceptible to everything.

  21. DBS Says:

If it is the rule you follow the rule. Plain and simple. As for face shield fogging. Firefighters had problems with facemasks fogging for years. There are anti fog agents now you can apply to stop it. Both spray and wipes.

  22. James Walker Says:

Google “CDC Considerations for Wearing Masks” for the peer reviewed studies of how masks can reduce the viral load during transmission which will save your life. If everyone would wear a mask this would be over in 90 days.

  23. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

3/4 of the league’s staff must be devoted to virtue signaling. Amazed they have time to think about the business of football.

  24. mark2001 Says:

Bucjim.. that is deceptive. That is the percent that only mention Covid on the death certificate. In the others, the COVID often set the table for the opportunistic diseases that caused fatalities. And BTW…it isn’t just 80 or 90 year old people dying of Covid. A young hockey player defense man for the Peoria Rivermen just died with Covid at 29 years old. And most of those guys are in pretty good shape.

  25. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

If the penalty really is to replace your starting left tackle for a series, may Goodell’s hammer come down on us early and often.

  26. JimmyJack Says:

James Walker yeah its 90 days. That’s the rough time frame of Covid spikes. Looking at charts of any state or comparable country 60 days seems a bit more accurate.

If you looking at it regionally 90 days makes sense. If you think itd be over in 90 days worldwide if everyone wears a mask then we should probably blame everybody in Idaho because they have no mask mandates.

I’m just not sure your angle…..If you think Floridians wearing masks in April would have skipped us from hitting our spike in August then I guess we would have never gotten Covid at all. That’s kinda like saying masks stop Covid entirely which is nonsense.

But the 60-90 day thing is real. Something that might need to be relayed to the above post by St Pete. I’m sorry to break it to ya St Pete but NY had no special savior technique to get over their spike. Their spike lasted for the same time frame of any other State in the country or of any other country in the world with a relatable population……I dont claim to be no expert I just read graphs on google that were prepared by experts…….NY spiked for the same 60-90 days that every other place in the world did. They were actually one of the most deadly spots.

    Maskholes…

  28. SOEbuc Says:

Christianson? My dad and I were telling BA the entire game it doesn’t work without covering his nose.

  29. Iamabuc Says:

I’m glad this is being mentioned because last night, during the game; it struck me as odd that Sean Payton (check the tape) wasn’t wearing his mask during much of the beginning of the game. Later though, he was shown putting it on. I guess somebody brought it to his attention. If any coach is going to be fined for this, he should be the first.
I remember seeing Arians wear his most of the time.

  30. stpetebucsfan Says:

    JJ

Sorry dude luv your football posts but you’re just mistaken about the virus.

NYC shut it down to get over their surge…FL…sorta…but I’d like some links to your stats.

Bottom line…4.5% of the population 22% of the world’s death. We have failed miserably at this because as someone pointed out the maskholes who won’t wear masks when required.

Here’s a real joke..people trying to suggest Covid deaths have been overreported. When old people die at home they do not perform autopsy’s. How many folks simply died at home with Covid is largely unreported.

  31. JimmyJack Says:

St Pete if I’m mistaken that’s only because there are stats google shows me that are wrong. Alls I did was google NY covid deaths(I really dont care about cases, death is only thing I’m concerned with).

If you google search ny death a graph pops up that shows you the spike. It’s very easy to read. You can do this for any state or country in the world. I’ve spent a decent amount of time reading these graphs and one main conclusion you can clearly see is that the spikes last roughly 60-90 days.

New york has been no different and had a similar spike(in reguards to time line, 60-90 days, as any other place in the world)…….Without a vast knowledge of the situation in NY I think it’s fair to say they didnt do much better then anybody else. Could maybe argue they did worse then most based of death totals but that’s probably too complex for me with many other factors.

Point is NY had spike consistent with anywhere else.

Another site I use just to looks at Florida reports is Tallahassee Covid Reports. Lots of easy to read data. Our spike should be just about done…..many say it already is based on cases but like I said I only look at deaths. They have still been up in the past week. Last few days has been way down so hopefully we are already out of it and our Governor can lift this mandate of forced muzzling.

  32. JimmyJack Says:

St Pete I said that wrong. It’s just Tallahassee Reports. The website I referenced.

And unfortunately St Pete your 4.5% and 22% numbers are not at all a bottom line for millions.

Just scroll up and read Bucnjims comment. That’s real news and when you can say something like that then it adds a lot of question marks to the context of your 22%…..Can other countries say the same about their death number that Bucnjim is saying about ours?…..If your going to be fair you have to admitt that how we are counting our deaths must be the same across the board if we want to compare.

Its shameful I cant trust your numbers(not your fault)nor can I trust what Bucnjim is saying……I can turn on the news and maybe learn about it….but then change the channel and they say it’s a lie…….They could not even tell our doctors what drugs are safe or not.

So my bottom line is I dont trust much of what I hear. So I will rely on my good old common sense. There’s only one fact I’ve really needed from all this and it’s been true the whole time that if your healthy you have nothing to worry about as far as yourself dying. That’s about the only decent accurate info we have gotten the whole time that wasnt called a lie.

  33. Greg Says:

The NFL is actually going to be an interesting test case. Masks, testing and contact tracing. It’s interesting that when there’s billions of dollars at stake people get their heads out of their asses.

Also, Sean Payton already had COVID. That’s probably why he was not wearing a mask.

  34. Greg Says:

Also, I get why people deny all of this COVID stuff. It’s horrifying. Magical thinking: “like a miracle, it will just disappear”. Confirmation Bias etc.

You better be right with whatever you decide.

  35. CleanHouse Says:

Here’s some information for all of you to weigh.

I contracted Covid last week. I tested positive Friday morning after losing my sense of smell Thursday night. I believe I started first feeling out of sorts last Monday afternoon, with what I thought was a sinus infection from being directly downwind of wildfires 15-20 miles away tops.

It’s overwhelming to list and go through all the symptoms I’ve experienced, but I’ll say this,

    IT IS NO JOKE

and it’s certainly real. It’s been a tough go. I’m generally healthy, 42 yo male, maybe 40 lbs. overweight.

Also I feel like I’ve been hyper vigilant with hand washing, disinfectant, and I even have worn N95 masks. I think I may have picked the virus up at a trip to the dentist. I had several appts from Aug 20th to 25th. I really can’t be sure though.

This is very scary because you really don’t know which way its going to go or what’s going on inside your body. I think I’m improving but can’t be sure. Not out of the woods yet, don’t wish it on anyone, but am concerned for deniers or those who think

I’ll say this, I was happy to watch the Bucs from bed on Sunday. Thankful and grateful to have a distraction I could share with my two younger brothers from across country.

I have no energy for vitriol towards the team and their sucking, I have no backhanded Brady comments, although many of you know my position on getting rid of JW.

As I’ve been saying, it’s a team effort in sloppiness which I think has been proven.

I hope the Bucs can sort it out and come together as a team with an actual strategy.

I wish everyone well….and please stay vigilant or reconsider if you think it’s a game.

It’s never real till it happens to you or a loved one.

    Go Bucs!!

if everyone there is tested everyday and all are negative what are the masks stopping the spread of….The virus is not just floating around in the air, you get infected by being in contact with someone who has the virus and it spreads from one to another….masks for all negative is pointless

  48. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Greg

I was thinking the same thing. Major props to the NFL for the way the NFL has handled this. They have followed the science and not the President, who actually called for less testing.

If the NFL pulls this off kudos to Goodell who finally got something right!

Meanwhile what will we have learned…testing..testing…testing!! Point of contact testing that give results in a half hour or less. Expensive but the NFL is a billion dollar industry.

Reality check…all this testing costs money!!! NFL no problemo…but elementary school kids trying to return to DeathSantis mandated in person learning on the South side of St. Pete…not so much.

  49. Brandon Says:

    CleanHouse,

Sorry you got sick but three of four members of our family had it… showed symptoms anyways, and nobody had symptoms for more than 2.5 days. Healthy people generally have less problems with this than most other sicknesses. You were sick for a week…. it is a joke. I’ve had flu symptoms and effects for two weeks…. COVID… 2.5 days.

Any mask lovers wanna see if your masks work? They don’t. Vape smoke is 500-900 micrometers in size, the virus is 60-140 micrometers. Try vaping through your mask… you’ll see as plain as day that the mask does little to nothing.

  50. Mark2001 Says:

Brandon.. Clean isn’t over it yet. And the Flu comparatively is minor league.

  51. DBS Says:

    Brandon
Had it showed symptoms of it? Which is it? Did they get tested? And as usual you have an answer for everything. I think I will take the advice from my Doctor. Not a jog google hack.

  54. Buc1987 Says:

I follow Florida’s case numbers daily.

Why? Because I wanted to see if the numbers came down once most of the state was required to wear masks.

    They have come down dramatically.

I used to doubt the masks…..but the case numbers don’t lie

  55. mark2001 Says:

If I may help with an overall perspective on this. The Pres. admitted on tape to Woodward that he knew this disease was far deadlier than the Flu, can be transmitted through the air, and admitted he lied to us all, because he feared the nancy’s among us would panic. Of course that doesn’t stop him from stoking fear and panic among voters, to garner their votes in other areas. But that aside.

It isn’t to be taken lightly. His appointees in key agencies are messaging the messaging to down play it, so for those skeptical of the numbers, I agree. It is probably worse than we know. But again, that aside. Let’s do all we can to mitigate the spread of this disease. A vaccine available to us all isn’t right around the corner. And the real experts have said herd immunity is a myth. So let’s all protect our neighbors and loved ones. Even if we are skeptical, it is the right thing to do.

  56. Clean House Says:

Thank you joe for allowing my post

  57. Clean House Says:

    I apologize for getting angry

  58. mark2001 Says:

Clean…I hope you get past this rapidly, and back to normal. I know we don’t on some Bucs points, but I wish you the best and a fast recovery. And thanks for sharing.

  59. Adrnagy Says:

Dingleberry’s the mask is to keep your mouth cover. Shut ! Sneeze , cough keep it to your own. !

  60. mark2001 Says:

Poor panicking Nancy…can’t handle the truth so his big daddy had to lie to you. It isn’t just mouth, coughing and sneezing…it is expelling any aerosol, including particles in your breath and out your nose. And it can help keeping you from inhaling some larger particles as the wearer.

  61. mark2001 Says:

Covid is a very small particle, but it usually is transmitted attached to things like moisture in your aerosol. And those particles are large enough to be stopped by a N95/good KN95 masks, and even some masks not as good. So the moral of the story is not to trust the mask for your own safety. It might stop Covid in some circumstances… but not always by any means. And it might save someone else’s life. Social distance as well, because the mask doesn’t always stop it. And if you pray, pray.

  62. Bucsfanman Says:

Clean- I hope you’re feeling better.

Why is this being made so difficult? Masks simply help slow the spread. It’s all out there. Prevent? No. Slow yes.
Don’t we want science to catch up and have a VIABLE vaccine sooner as opposed to later.
THAT is the whole ENTIRE point! Simply wearing a mask now slows the spread so that we can continue with our “normal” lives sooner.
It’s not a political statement. It’s common sense, and if people would just slow down with the rhetoric and vitriol, it’s as plain as day.
Wear one in a crowd. Don’t if you’re not. Is that so difficult?

As to being able to vape in one, do you vape the same way you breathe?
    Didn’t think so.

  63. Tribe85 Says:

Ok…every person on the sidelines has been tested and everyone is negative.
So, what is the point of wearing a mask…exactly who are you preventing the spread to?
    Again…everyone has tested negative.
Corona virus isnt going to come wafting down from the stands and infect those on the sidelines.

  64. mark2001 Says:

Tribe… someone may have tested negative the day before, and just be coming down with it. And there are camera people and sideline reporters. There are trainers and such in the lockerrooms. So it is a bit more complex than just the coaching staffs and 53 men rosters. Wish it were foolproof for preventing this…but unfortunately, it isn’t.
