Sloppy

September 15th, 2020

Same as last year.

So guess which team was tied for the most penalties on Sunday?

You guessed it. Your Buccaneers, baby.

In an example of last year’s slop, when the Bucs led the NFL in penalties (133) the Bucs began the 2020 campaign with nine. Stretch that out for 16 games and that comes to 144 penalties.

A guy whose football roots stretch back to Bill Parcells, Mike Tannebaum of BSPN, is alarmed by the Bucs’ lack of discipline.

There is no dodging this issue. It is squarely on the biggest and brightest coaching staff in the NFL. You had all offseason — remember, coaches had a helluva lot of time on their hands to study tape and find the worst culprits — to find ways to correct this.

Joe doesn’t want to hear about a lack of an offseason. Every team had a limited offseason. The Bucs had two rookies starting yesterday and those two accounted for one penalty (Tristan Wirfs flagged for a false start). So the rookies had better discipline in their first NFL start than the vets? That’s sort of shameful on the veterans.

The more skins you peel off the onion on Sunday’s game, the more it was a failure of the men and women who were tasked to get the Bucs ready to play.

We didn’t get the ref’s too in the Brady deal? wth

  3. Robert Says:

We’ve been one of the most penalized teams in the NFL for the last 10 years. 5 different coaches. Similar results. Sad

outside of d.smith, the penalties were the most disappointing thing on sunday….

BA needs to look himself in the mirror…..this is his ship….he needs to tighten it up….eliminating penalties shouldve been the first thing he said when the players arrived back to OBP….

im not pissed at the loss….im pissed at the way we loss…TOs & penalties

    GO BUCS!!!!!

100% on coaching. Year after year it’s the same thing. How they committed so many penalties and turnovers is mind boggling. I thought for once we would be respectable on primetime but we were not. I’m telling you right now their next coach whenever that is needs to be a special
Teams guy. That is so key to winning teams and then hire good coordinators. I’m sick and tired of seeing this embarassment. Utterly disgraceful. Fire Keith Armstrong.

  6. John says Says:

It is not uncharacteristic of Tom to throw a bonehead interception. But he could rely on his teammates not to compound his error. Which would open athe door for a comeback. Penalties, and players stopping to run aren’t going to cut it. As a longtime TB/Patriots fan the mental discipline difference is easily noticeable.

  7. Sesteprenelicus Says:

Points to Licht not being diligent enough to draft/sign disciplined players. You can’t coach stupid.

He’s really not a very good general manager.

Had I taken the Saints I would be in the Outright lead in the JoeBucsFan.com pickem league

  9. Elita Vita Says:

Losing to the New Orleans Saints is not so bad. The way we lost is despicable. Are ALL of the Bucs truly into striving to get to the Super Bowl this year? I’m afraid to say it’s a bad look on our coaching staff as well – from top to bottom. Our VERY long suffering fans are relying on Bruce and company to get it done this year. Come on guys….get serious. Let’s Go!!!

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Vea & Suh off-sides….inexcusable…….Wirfs false start….understandable but inexcusable…..
    Couple of DPIs…….will happen……
I think Godwin was offsides……can’t do that.

I don’t think we had an offensive holding penalty….but I could be wrong there.

I also think we avoided ST penalties…..because of fair catches 7 touchbacks…..shouldn’t block in the back or hold on those.

Lots of reasons to be negative. But I’m not. Sure, they need to improve in areas. I believe they will.

Meanwhile, I’ll be avoiding all the negative articles.

Agree, this is on BA and his staff. Sloppy, undisciplined play. We practiced that… blah blah blah. Apparently not enough! Get it done this week.

My 2 biggest concerns from Sunday were the penalties & the run blocking. These are the same problems as last year, and don’t seem to have been addressed by the coaching staff. With that said, I consider this game our pre-season as our starter s got about as many reps as they would between all 4 regular pre-season games.

Now there better be improvement and a victory next week, because if it turns out that Realist has been right about BA all along I’m going to be annoyed.

  17. Adrnagy Says:

    HC is the issue.
First drive TD. Stopped saints twice. Next possession we was driving and stop at 4 and inches.
play of the game ! Go for it. Keep driving.
HC decides to punt =result ugly punt. And from there we went south. HC is overrated. He cannot control and manage the game. He cannot make adjustment. He cannot put his foot down and set standards.

  18. Noles Says:

There is also PLAYER ACCOUNTABILITY & Arians can’t do it for them..

I thought the PI was bush league looked like a clean play both looking back for the ball..

Evans seems to make a lot of bad route decisions regardless of who is QB and still can’t hold it together at times in games. You can’t let people get to you that much 6years in… Man up & BEAT HIM DOWN w YOUR PLAY…. not your mouth.

4& 2 jump by Vea certainly isn’t Arians FAULT…. 90% of time they line up just to see if they can draw you. That is UNACCEPTABLE.

So a lot more to it than coach taught us right… they will correct this week & if not at home against CAR then you can worry…. LOL….

  19. Dirk Disco Says:

Same thing every year. The only constant is Jason Licht. You could just google old articles and change the times and opposing team. My patience is running out.

  20. Adrnagy Says:

Yes it is ! Bench that fool a QTR

Bill B would of bench players already. Damn he bench that Cb in the super bowl. Stop making excuses for the HC.

  21. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Eh 4th and inches was WAY too risky from inside your own 30. I am a go for it on 4th down guy but doing it there directly leads to a 50% chance the other team scores. Granted there are plenty of other things you can point the finger at as bad decisions.

Also there sure are a lot of FSU names coming out of the woodwork in the last 48 hours.

  22. Architek Says:

Damm it’s so negative around here after one loss – gosh!

  23. Adrnagy Says:

Saints are most likely going to score every possession. So why not go for it on that 4th. Heck the way the punter is kicking and coverage go for it every 4th down. Lol

  24. El Buco Realisto Says:

The sheep once again, making false statements with no research!!!!!!!!!!!! The 2016 and 2017 were the least penalized Buc teams compared to other years!!!!!!!!!!! And it is not even close!!!!!!!!!

Its plan and simple sheep!!!!!!!!! Its sloppy coaching!!!!!!!!! But the sheep were told over a year ago and are finally catching on!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its a shame having to wait for the sheep to learn, what the “real” fans already knew long ago!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. Bucsfanman Says:

Cherry-picking stats again I see Realist(o)! Besides, who’s talking about ’16 and ’17 anyway?! You take “shepherding” to new lows!

    Coaches coach and players play.

This was a total team failure all around. QB can’t commit TOs, defense can’t have these boneheaded costly penalties, special teams was atrocious, and the coaching was suspect.

Other than that, we played a great game!

  26. Daniel Says:

For a supposed good coaching staff, this team commits a ton of stupid penalties & mistakes.

  27. Will Says:

It’s funny BA says if you have 2 QBs you have none. I’m wondering what the saying is if you have the largest coaching staff in the league how many coaches do you have?
Someone has got to see the issues and get them fixed. Start by firing the ST coach. Then move to the run game coordinator and put him on a short leash. After that evaluate what you’re going to do with Smith how do you motivate him to play hard every snap because if Brady gets hurt I’m willing to bet it’ll be because of him.

  28. JimmyJack Says:

Penalties are a problem no doubt……But I will like to add that the crew we had was calling ticky tack PI all day……..I’m sure I missed the replay on one but I didnt think any PI I saw in detail was a glaring foul.

We will be lucky to get any of them calls again. But it was fair and went both ways. The 1st two TDs by each team were set up by bent PIs in mine opinion.

And tell Scotty he needs to learn how to fight off an arm. He’s not getting that call in December.

    Everyone’s having a meltdown….
Saying what I’ve been saying all along.

The most rewarding part is seeing all the national media and bandwagoners scramble, make excuses and jump ship.

My 6-10 prediction suddenly doesn’t look so crazy does it?

  30. stpetebucsfan Says:

Here’s a thought that I haven’t seen mentioned. When the Bucs moved the ball so effortlessly on that first drive I thought…woooweee…we’re off and running.

Then the mistakes started adding up and I think a LOT of players..including Brady started getting tight collars. I won’t use the horrible C word..it wasn’t a full on choke but I think many guys were simply trying to hard and lost focus.

Vita Vea…Mike Edwards..ME13..D Smith…lots of guys playing a little tight IMHO.

  31. stpetebucsfan Says:

Clean House and Mike Johnson and other JW fluffers.

Remember when Ron DeSantis went on a rant about how the “fake news” media claimed Florida wouldn’t have a spike. Do you remember that RANT. A few weeks later he looked like a total idiot as our spike became a national leader.

This is ONE game. So no CH…your prediction looks as stoopid now as it did when you first made it.

  32. Clean House Says:
