It appears the Bucs had 65 plays of offense today and Donovan Smith played well for 60 and the others led fans to scream at their TVs.
(Damn, today felt so much like a 2019 reunion.)
This is the player Smith was for the past few years (better last year), but that was supposed to change.
Joe has to go back and watch the film, but Smith was beaten badly a few times today, and it appeared he was beaten another time while Scotty Miller ran into his back (though Miller isn’t exactly a burly tight end). Overall, it appeared that Smith didn’t fare as well as rookie right tackle Tristan Wirfs.
Was it effort, was it the Saints’ talent?
Again, Joe must take a closer look. But regardless, Smith had a day he’d like to have back. And it’s not like the Bucs were running left with a punishing ground game to make up for it.

It Sucks to watch Cam Jordan feast on Smith and the Bucs, whole talk show host Dominik selected Adrian Clayborn @20, when Jordan landed to the Saints @24.
Jordan- the son of an all pro.
Clayborn, has known nerve damage and is restricted to how he can rush the passer.
This is the same GM that let Mike Bennett wall bc DaQuan Bowers and his airport escapades.
Jordan should be a Buc, and I blame Dominik each and every time he still haunts us.

Donovan is above average on his best day and he makes elite tackle money?!? Management and others think that he is better than that, but I sure as hell don’t see it. We lost as a team today, but this dude was a big contributer.
On a happy note, Wirfs looked freaking awesome for his first game ever.

Joe you will see that Scotty did take Smith out of that play…….But it was that one stretch just before halftime where donovan seemingly decided to take a few plays off. It’s the same thing it always is with Donavan. Just decides not to show up for a handful of snaps. And those were big snaps he cost us just before half……The blocked kick is as much on him then the guy who blocked air IMO.

Donovan Smith was trash today he was beat like a drum on a few plays especially on third down. He keeps this and he won’t get to finish out that big A** contract that he didn’t earn.
On a positive note we gotta shout out to Tristan Wirfs who played really good for his first start there was only one play where Cam Jordan really did him dirty. But other than that he really held his own
If Smith had held up his end of the bargain Brady barely would of been touched in that game

Wirf didn’t allow a block fg. It’s was Cappa that fell on his left, while Wirf was trying to stop 3 guys.

I think he got beat by Henderson on three of the plays. Wirfs at least got beat by Can Jordan. Tough day for D Smith. I truly believe Tom Brady is someone who needs a good line. If he’s not trusting them he is very average.

As a side note when it comes to blocking I seen our RBs pick up two blitzes today. One for RoJo one for MCCoy. Both misses both costly. Fournette better be ready next week. We might need him.

smith took off at least three plays I went back and reviewed. he just quit blocking thinking the play should be over. I am done with this guy 16 million and he still can’t block for about 15 seconds!
Wirfs got beat two times the worst one was on the field goal block it was all his fault.looked as though he had no idea which guy to block.

The Bucs have 3 young studs at corner, the Bucs believe Carlton Davis is a top 10 cornerback, completely shut down Michael Thomas today – Brees did NOTHING, the saints had 140 total yards of offense going in to 4th quarter (can’t ask for a better performance statistically speaking) but THIS F’ing GUY wants to draft a corner. You can thank the General Manager for insuring that we can experience this type of play for the next five years. He obviously came to the conclusion that Smith played so well the last five seasons that he was rewarded with five more.

The end. The defense did not give up 34 points dude come on. Carlton Davis put on damn near a masterclass performance and locked Michael Thomas up. Bunting was fantastic on the other side. The one major mistake was jamel Dean was caught sleeping. He is also our youngest corner. As if drafting and plugging in another 21yr old corner will never make any mistakes. There is a reason why YARDS and not points is used as THE METRIC when ranking defenses. Points are misleading and happens in a variety of ways. Yards given up is binary. Either you can stop an offense from moving the ball or you can’t. The Bucs were PHYSICAL and tossed Kamara around like a rag doll. The mistakes will be cleaned up. Good lord. Don’t you guys remember it took Peyton Manning and the broncos a solid half year to figure it out.

The even worse thing is that the Bucs were calling running plays to the outside left when we couldn’t even get up the middle. Wirfs moving to LT or draft one in the third round.

Smith is who he is…but collectively we just didn’t play well.. He’ll probably give us an excellent outing next week against Carolina. The offense simply had no chemistry, that was expected. IMO…..the defense looked much improved. you’re only going to hold Brees back for so long. Throw in bad field position, turnovers and stalled drives, its hard to not break. I would have liked to see us hold them to FGs a few more times but week 1 against the saints in their home with no offseason…..I felt like the defense showed up. Special teams was brutal…..again collectively sloppy and simply not going to cut it against a legit playoff team.

I dont understand why one of the Joe’s bends over backwards to defend the OL. Its like he will refuse to ever admit he was wrong about the OL. The Tackles were terrible for a few years. But to him, its only the fans who think that…. man just hard headed. Dotson got replaced for good reason. And D Smith was actually worse than Dotson.

It was Lack of Effort. He was the leaky sieve that put even more pressure on Tom Brady. He is the one who caused Brady to get hit almost exclusively. That needs to get Fixed right away, BUT you can’t force someone else to have that desire. I thought while watching the game that Tristan Wirfs played well enough that he should play left tackle and move Donovan Smith to right tackle where he is likely to cause less damage. Arians needs to take control and not jeopardize Tom Brady and the season by not trying Wirfs at left tackle.
If they it keep Donovan Smith at left tackle they may have to play Anthony Auclair in the backfield to help Smith (and sneak him out on a pattern now and then).
