Jason Licht’s Key Radio Comments Yesterday

September 12th, 2020

GM Jason Licht

Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht joined forces yesterday with a guy Bucs fans know very well.

Combined, their records as chief executives are enough to give any Bucs fans sour stomach. Yes, Licht was talking ball with former Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik on SiriusXM NFL Radio. It’s early September, the season of hope, excitement, change and joy, and Joe was happy that Licht cared enough about the fans to leave his bunker to communicate with them.

Licht is on a real roll in 2020, when it comes to those who love hearing from him: the fans.

Here are the highlights from Licht yesterday:

“Bruce Arians “had a pretty grueling training camp,” per Licht, and there was no “whining or bitching” from players about practicing 12 of 13 days at one point.

*Licht on Brady: “such a high standard for himself and for his teammates. … Everybody just wants to live up to the way he does things in terms of taking care of his body and mind, the playbook, you can not give him enough information. … Bruce has said he’s the Pied Piper.” Licht added that Brady’s leadership is “not rehearsed,” which had Joe wondering whether that represents a contrast from the Saints’ backup QB.

*”It was a no-brainer on our part,” Licht said of signing Leonard Fournette. (Joe will have fun with that one next week.)

*Licht said Josh Rosen made a smart decision for his development deciding to be with a familiar offense (he spent 2018 with Byron Leftwich) since he had so much change in his career, including college.

*Asked about why no fans at the Den of Depression for the first two home games, Licht said that’s above his pay grade and, “I don’t know what exactly went on behind closed doors there with our ownership” and government officials.

*Tristan Wirfs and Antoine Winfield, Jr., the Bucs’ first two picks of the 2020 draft, remind Licht a lot of Chris Godwin with their rookie maturity, focus and football savvy. Wirfs benefited so much from working against Jason Pierre-Paul and Shaq Barrett, Licht said.

*In a tender moment, Licht said to Dominik in closing, “Miss you around here, Mark.” Dominik and Licht’s families became friendly after Dominik was fired and remained living in Tampa.

  2. Clean House Says:

this pos has a lot of room to make digs at JW
captain 2nd round is only here because he’s a backstabber who rides arians BS coattails- He’s great at manipulating the glazer boys
Consistently ranked as a bottom tier GM- should have been fired,
Ought to just shut his mouth while he’s ahead

  3. Christopher Schiefen Says:

Clean House. Fire Licht, no Arians. No Arians/Licht roster, no Brady. Other than 4-5 current QBs, no Brady, no Super Bowl chance.

  4. Steven007 Says:

If Jason is riding the coattails of a man he was directly responsible for bringing here, I’m okay with that. Riding the coattails has a positive connotation in as much as it’s assuming there are coattails to ride. Meaning success. Hopefully after this season we can truly say he’s riding his coattails. I’m okay with that.

  5. hammerhead Says:

Someone actually asked Licht why no fans in stands for the first 2 games?

    😂😂😂

Must be a hoax, right? 😂😂😂

  6. Clean House Says:

well he better not run his mouth too much because his super roster hasn’t won jack yet

  7. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

Licht added that Brady’s leadership is “not rehearsed,” which had Joe wondering whether that represents a contrast from the Saints’ backup QB.” Pick6 Again says, Hell yea it does!”

well he better not run his mouth too much because his super roster hasn’t won jack yet

That is a very true statement but at least we’re on a different road now. We were on a dead end road the past 5 years.

  9. SteelStudBuc Says:

Why so grumpy in here? Its kickoff tomorrow! Cheer up!

  10. Craig Says:

Licht got really lucky this off-season. Hopefully that luck will stay with him, and us, the fans, through the season.

It would be a cherry on top of our raised hopes to be the first team to play a Stupor Bowl in their home stadium, even if only 15,000 people get to sit in the stadium.

  11. Ed Says:

The players no bitching, Last i checked the player’s are the game, just shut up and go draft another kicker.

  12. Gofortheface30 Says:

Yeah hammerhead. Look I’m sorry you have to live your life with a tiny penis but listen up pudding head – I’m watching a notre dame game right now – fans. Kansas City game Thursday – fans. Denver Bronco game on Monday (in the most liberal city ever) – fans. Miami – fans. NASCAR – fans. Do you still not comprehend the basis of the question being asked.

  13. ModHairKen Says:

Gofortheface, were you social distancing when you saw hammerhead’s tiny penis?

  14. hammerhead Says:

I comprehend the question. I don’t comprehend the clowns who think large gatherings are acceptable because they disregard public health experts’ recommendations as some sort of deep state conspiracy to limit their freedumb. I don’t comprehend the culture of stupid when we’re now approaching 200,000 deaths in this country. And all these gatherings will cause spread of the virus, just like that idiotic biker rally in Sturgis.

  15. Gofortheface30 Says:

Or, orrrrr Hammerhead your 22yr old pimple faced EMO Dems rioting every doesn’t help with spread either. Funny how you mention one thing to drive home your point, when a better example is the past 100 days of “protests” (emphasis on quotations). Protesting for racial equality – ya right, more like protesting because you’re an unmotivated loser that thinks capitalism isn’t fair wahhhhh. Listen, I got news for you buddy boy. You and people like you live in some sort of weird idealistic world. You won’t be happy until no human dies, ever again. You DO know the original point of flattening the curve was right? It was to not overburden hospitals. Mission accomplished. Sleepy joes teleprompters aren’t going to save him in the debates

  16. hammerhead Says:

    ^^ You’ve got issues bud.

  17. unbelievable Says:

^ found the brainwashed fake news casualty.

    Yikes.

  18. unbelievable Says:

I imagine gofortheface was frothing at the mouth as he typed that last comment while wearing his fanciest Qanon shirt.

You should see if Alex Jones is hiring lol

  19. hammerhead Says:

Dear leader has trained his cult well… Just regurgitate his bombastic spew at high volume, disengage brain, drink the clorox-koolaid. Big win for fascism!

  20. Ftmyersbuc Says:

Hammerhead, trump’s a huge dou*hy pri*k, and the sickness is real, but when the cdc came out with the 6% you know you’ve been lied to right? The sickness panic is over. Bars opening back up Monday. You notice how when that came out everything quietly started overnight back up? No one called a hoax no one wants to disrespect the roughly 11k 85 year olds who died but they, the decision makers, started quietly opening up. At least the rational ones did. Unfortunately for some they are holding these freedoms hostage for political gain.

  21. hammerhead Says:

You mean the 6% death rate initially? That was the actual rate for the first few months if you’re using the actual recorded data of [# reported deaths]/[# reported cases]… I watched those numbers daily for quite awhile and it was 6%… Then it started to move out of the elderly populations, and our treatment options improved, and the death rate went lower. I don’t think CDC said 6% was what we could expect ongoing, so no I don’t think we were lied to on that. Both the CDC and NIH all along said there were a lot more cases out there undetected, and encouraged more testing, which would mean a lower death rate. I think the public health agencies have been very forthcoming and rooted in science except in cases where Don the Con tried to silence them or tried to alter their information and guidance to suit his political objectives…

The sickness is NOT over, it can flare back up by ignoring mitigation measures and we’re still averaging 40K cases per day. Models are currently projecting a fall surge with death counts increasing significantly. The models have been pretty accurate thus far.

The idea that any scientist or public health expert has used the pandemic for political gain is ludicrous. Dumpster Don and his rethug sycophants are the only ones using it for political gain… In fact, continuing to play down the sickness is hurting the economy and society at large far more. If we had acted intelligently, we would’ve followed the examples of just about everywhere else in the world, and then we’d be back in business… but the idiots instead just wanna charge forward and let the dead bodies pile up like it’s no big deal.

  24. Clean House Says:

What is a jack wagon? Is that some kind of redneck vehicle that you drive in Kyle Hoge?

  25. Joe Says:

    What is a jack wagon?

    A more family-friendly way of calling someone a jack@ss.

  26. Clean House Says:

Haha Joe thanks for piling on!

You not a fan of my bantor?

Don’t like hearing about JW leading the NFL in total offense, passing yards, passing yards per game, and being #2 in TDs only behind the MVP?

Don’t like my 6-10 prediction? My lack of belief in the coaching staff and GM?
