Depth Chart Released
September 7th, 2020So you know football is on the horizon when the season’s first depth chart is posted by the Bucs.
Some interesting things Joe noticed.
Though many (most?) expected Antoine Winfield to be starting at safety (Joe wasn’t quite sure ) he will be, per the depth chart. In most practices Joe saw, Winfield split time between the first- and second-team defenses. This is why when a commenter asked why Joe didn’t list Winfield as a starter, Joe was hesitant to do so.
(Regular readers know Joe has been very bullish on Winfield since the day he was drafted.)
* Jordan Whitehead will join Winfield at safety on the first-team defense. Not a shock there. Physical dude and Joe loves physical safeties. Joe had wondered the way Mike Edwards performed in practices if he was going to be a surprise starter. Edwards has to learn to wrap up and not try to blow up when tackling. Fundamentals, people. Fundamentals.
* Sean Murphy-Bunting is listed as a starting corner over Jamel Dean. This is a slight surprise only because Dean was fourth in the NFL last year in passes defensed, basically in a part-time role. SMB, who led the team in picks last season, will likely move to nickel corner on passing downs and Dean will then get on the field.
* Offensively, Ronald Jones is still your starting running back in a one-back formation. This is reasonable because Joe believes when Leonard Fournette learns the playbook, he will be on the field when games begin.
* The Bucs list two tight ends in their first-team offense and they are foot-rubbing Rob Gronkowski (no shock at all) and O.J. Howard. From what Joe saw this summer, Howard easily had his best camp since the Bucs drafted him in 2017. Hopefully, that will carry over to the games.
* Another no brainer, rookie first-round draft pick Tristan Wirfs will start at right tackle.

I had a dream ( nightmare ) last night that Brady got sacked on a disguised blitz fake handoff and shredded his knee ultimately ending his career. It was the biggest kick in the groin imaginable. Woke up relieved it was a dream, but also a hardh reminder of how fragile this entire thing is. If we go back to rosen or gabbert with byron leftwich calling plays the season is over. Fingers crossed everyone stays healthy.
September 7th, 2020 at 2:42 pm
Two most important players on the Bucs are old men (by football standards), JPP and Brady.
September 7th, 2020 at 2:46 pm
I see Big Mike, who are this other people …People wants to know!!
September 7th, 2020 at 2:49 pm
Just a hunch you are not much of a football fan.
September 7th, 2020 at 2:50 pm
2 things: the way the article was written, it never actually stated Winfield was a starter. I had to go to the actual depth chart to confirm that. Two, ONE of the Joes was braying about a running back over Winfield, so let’s slow the roll of the page essentially saying “yes, we knew this day would come”.
September 7th, 2020 at 2:51 pm
BucEmUp…wtf would you even put that out there?
September 7th, 2020 at 2:53 pm
Gotta protect Brady, Winston held the ball too long, exposing the linemen… got my fingers crossed, this is all or nothing! Totally amped for this season… I dont remember myself getting this excited since Gruden came aboard.
September 7th, 2020 at 2:53 pm
Plus, Edwards takes terrible angles. So, not only can he not tackle, he doesn’t even know how to GET to the tackle. So Licht has one gimmie in DB drafting (Stewart), and BA/Bowles have another (Edwards).

Why throw BL into that fire …under any circumstance if NE12 goes down, this all in meds is dead in the water, unless…unless.. you could trade for Mr 5000to come back and lead the way…the may you could BREATHE a little better!!

(Ooops, already forgot about VHIII ☺️)
September 7th, 2020 at 3:00 pm
This sentence may have been the giveaway if you were not sure.
September 7th, 2020 at 3:00 pm
Joe
Someone just texted me. 9 rookies made the team ? Is that accurate. I know a few injured (hurst)
So draft picks and undrafted free agents Make 9?
September 7th, 2020 at 3:01 pm
Give Joe a moment to count them up (Joe will not include practice squad guys).
September 7th, 2020 at 3:02 pm
Big hog and ndog (sounds like a mano y mano couple )have turned this Site to 💩
September 7th, 2020 at 3:03 pm
Yah. No practice squad guys
September 7th, 2020 at 3:03 pm
Not everyone is so fortunate.
September 7th, 2020 at 3:06 pm
Bird:
Bucs have seven rookies on the team.
September 7th, 2020 at 3:12 pm
Joe
👍
And You counter hurst cause he went on IR or was it PUP
7 is solid number though
September 7th, 2020 at 3:14 pm
Joe does this mean we can expect to see Wirfs starting in Lousiana? I heard some rumblings he could take a extra week or two to get NFL ready.
September 7th, 2020 at 3:14 pm
Joe counted every rookie on the active roster as listed on the team’s official website.
September 7th, 2020 at 3:14 pm
Jesus people learn some reading comprehension, it was clearly stated he was first team defense. Stop criticizing the Joe’s articles if you lack the education to comprehend them. Don’t try to be another Ndog or realist there are enough of them that post crap on this site without you adding more drivel for people to read that has nothing to do with our team.
September 7th, 2020 at 3:16 pm
Joe tends to take things literally (mea culpa). Suppose there could be some gamesmanship here by Arians. But if a guy is listed on gameweek as a team’s starter, barring injury, Joe is going to count him as a starter.
Every practice Joe witnessed had Wirfs practicing with the first-team offense.

I hate that picture BTW. Never use again please. Not unless it’s just Tom.

AND…. I think that just about proves it!
September 7th, 2020 at 3:23 pm
So who’s the starting QB? 😂
September 7th, 2020 at 3:33 pm
Well we know who it is not, that’s all that matters
September 7th, 2020 at 3:44 pm
I normally stick to the Bucs, but I saw something that just makes no sense – he has to be almost as old as Ryan Griffin at this point. How in the world was Mike Glennon signed to the Jacksonville practice squad? Are they calling that added veteran reserve spot the practice squad? Also, and I was no fan of Glennon, but I’d rather have him as our backup than Gabbert. The Bucs have to keep Brady healthy, or all the talent in the world isn’t going to mean anything.
September 7th, 2020 at 3:54 pm
Any player can go on the practice squad this year.
September 7th, 2020 at 3:55 pm
Because Jacksonville is tanking this year and trying to stockpile picks .
September 7th, 2020 at 3:59 pm
Youngbucs – I didn’t realize that, I knew about the extra vet roster spots but didn’t know they opened up the practice squad like that. Must have missed that somehow. Weird.
September 7th, 2020 at 4:00 pm
Here’s a bold prediction:
Rojo will never give up the RB1 position to Fournette.
Rojo is way more talented with the ball in his hands.
People who say Fournette will be RB1 are lazy.
September 7th, 2020 at 4:17 pm
Vets with unlimited years of service, this year (only), can be placed on practice squad, but a limited number.
Arians likes Gabbert because he knows his offense through and through. Arians isn’t interested in teaching his offense to new people because he won’t be here long. Of course, there are some exceptions as in if the guy you signed has six Super Bowl rings. 🙂

Ndog you are the definition of a troll bro, 95% of what you “spit” its garbage and hate, I give you the 5%just because I’m a nice guy.
September 7th, 2020 at 4:36 pm
big hogs head is jammed so far up his own behind…it’s wild
September 7th, 2020 at 4:40 pm
What excites me is that our entire starting defense is back…..we have added Winfield but Edwards is still available…..
Also…..we have upgraded our QB, TE, RT, RB positions and have significantly better depth on Offense….
The only question mark is 3rd WR…..and that will remain to be seen…..I’m hopeful that Brady will make Scotty a star.
September 7th, 2020 at 4:41 pm
Ndog you are the definition of a troll. Everything you spot on here comes from a literal faceless nameless twitter troll who claims to have inside sources when in reality his sources are nothing but dude trust me.
September 7th, 2020 at 4:45 pm
SMB over Jamal Dean is interesting…
I know SMB had more picks, but Dean was making plays left and right once he started. Dude has legit instincts at defending the pass.
September 7th, 2020 at 5:05 pm
How do people not realize that Leftwich is being groomed to take over? Baffles my mind, especially when Leftwich calls the offensive plays already.
Grind that ax, it doesn’t always make it sharper.

Did you join under a different handle Joe?
September 7th, 2020 at 7:51 pm
Joe how does being an old QB make you more prone to injury than a 23 year old one?
To me injuries happen no matter what age…
September 7th, 2020 at 8:13 pm
Buc1987,
Pretty clear you haven’t hit 40 yet. Even still, that is as surprising a question as I’ve heard in a long time… maybe it shouldn’t be though in a world where people think the Earth is flat, global warming isn’t real, and DJT is a man of the people.
September 7th, 2020 at 9:03 pm
Football!

Buc1987 Says
“To me injuries happen no matter what age…”
You’ve been around here a while…you have to be 30+, right?
Can your body do the same things now as when you were 20?
From around age 30, the human body starts breaking down. Sometimes sooner. It’s gradual, but it happens to everyone. Athletes try to fight it. Some succeed. In Brady’s case, he has always treated his body like a temple, so even though his body is well past the threshhold, it is not so far along that it prevents him from playing well.
This isn’t the case for most people.
And there are some people who are completely injury prone. People like Gabbert.
September 8th, 2020 at 2:52 am
A stacked offense. With a legit front 7 and an ascending secondary. It does not matter to me who is playing. The front of the Jersey baby. Because if this team is losing who gives a rip about who is playing. Just win baby losing s*cks. GO BUCS!!!!!!!
September 8th, 2020 at 8:22 am
Jay-Miss WinsTOn has been relegated to 3rd string QB/water boy by the Saints.
Go ahead, someone keep telling me he isn’t a BUST.
September 8th, 2020 at 8:29 am
You have to be under 30 to make such a statement. I’m with some of the others but I can give you perspective as a 45 year old submission grappler/wrestler.
At 30 I was not as fast as I was at 28. At 33 my metabolism changed and it became harder to keep weight off. At 35 my injuries took longer to heal and I was still slowing down but still kinda fast. It also takes two weeks to recover from a muscle pull instead of a week. At 37 that quarter step drop off at 30 is more like a full step slower. At 40 you’re a two steps slower and you’re more injury prone. At 42 pulled muscles take six weeks to recover from. At 45 years old I remember the days when I was lightning fast at 40.
Tom Brady is doing amazing things at his age but I’m sure he has more “help” than what is documented by the TB12 method. That “help” doesn’t necessarily mean steroids or something illegal, just something that he is not being open about.
