Shuffling Money
September 5th, 2020Bucs stud receiver Mike Evans is sick to his stomach with the losing. And it shows.
Not only has one of the best receivers in the game said so publicly, he is literally putting money where his mouth is.
Last week it was rumored the Bucs were looking to restructure and/or extend Lavonte David’s contract. A week later, it is Evans to the rescue.
Per Field Yates of BSPN, Evans agreed to rework his deal with the Bucs to help the team clear up cap space.
With roster movement upon us, three teams created notable 2020 cap space by converting a veteran’s base salary into a signing bonus, per source:
▪️Buccaneers: $9.5M created via Mike Evans
▪️49ers: $9.5M created via Dee Ford
▪️Steelers: $3.85M created via David DeCastro— Field Yates (@FieldYates) September 5, 2020
Now we know the Bucs will be able to afford the soon-to-be-signed Leonard Fournette (COVID protocol has delayed the deal but it is only procedural).
What is just as interesting to Joe i, with all of this cap space cleared, does that mean the Bucs are still shopping as teams shave players off their rosters to meet the 53-man ceilings deadline of this afternoon at 4 p.m.?
September 5th, 2020 at 12:02 pm
Stop shopping, save the extra cap space for next year. They’re going to need it, badly.
September 5th, 2020 at 12:02 pm
Or maybe just setting the stage for next year’s probable cap reduction?
September 5th, 2020 at 12:02 pm
I would think we may be looking for that veteran CB that Joe wants…….perhaps a vet safety……
September 5th, 2020 at 12:06 pm
Agree with this in general principle. But if you are “all-in” for this year, then go all-in. Don’t hold a nickel back. Pedal to the metal.
As George Allen would say, it appears for the Bucs, “the future is now.”
Hey, if the slimy Saints are sniffing around Jadeveon Clowney, why not the Bucs?
September 5th, 2020 at 12:08 pm
Perhaps an OLB – maybe lack of depth there is the biggest concern. Not that there are many left. Amazing off-season.
September 5th, 2020 at 12:14 pm
Earl Thomas? Clay Matthews? They will need a little bit of money to replace injured players.
September 5th, 2020 at 12:16 pm
When I didn’t think I could like Mike Evans more…bam!
Something is amiss at One Buc these days. Players WANTING to improve the TEAM to win games?!
I’m so confused and elated at the same time! This is my Bucs?!
September 5th, 2020 at 12:17 pm
The media acts like players sacrifice when they do this. Hahahahaha of course he’s going to restructure. He doesn’t lose any money. He just gets more of it up front. Duh.
September 5th, 2020 at 12:20 pm

September 5th, 2020 at 12:21 pm
….And there’s always the potential Juilan Eldman/Cameron Brate swap
September 5th, 2020 at 12:25 pm
What a class act Mike Evans is!
How many times has he restructured his contract to help this team improve? 3-4 times? This guy is a team first guy! Absolutely love it! Pro Sports needs more people like Mike Evans!
September 5th, 2020 at 12:26 pm
There is always a way available to free up space…..and, absolutely it’s a win-win situation presented.
We could use some of this money to restructure Godwin….make him happy….pay him now or pay him more later…..(know Joe doesn’t like this)…..but it’s done all the time with great players you want to keep.
September 5th, 2020 at 12:27 pm
Not holding back a nickel is one thing, borrowing from next year and maxing out the credit card is quite another!!!!!!!!! We will see how happy the sheep and so-called fans in two years when the WR alone will be eating up 60 million towards the cap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They better cash in thus year, as they have put the franchise in such a hole, that it will take 4 years to just see daylight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The worst part and most shameful are that the sheep are cheering as ole stale biscuit wreck’s our beloved franchise!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But once again, the sheep will figure it out two years too late!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 5th, 2020 at 12:30 pm
Good teams are always up against the cap ceiling.
Super Bowl is in Tampa, they won’t leave a single stone unturned.
September 5th, 2020 at 12:31 pm
I’m sick of having cap space. I want good players. Cap space doesn’t fill the score sheet.
September 5th, 2020 at 12:32 pm
Get a veteran for the secondary!
September 5th, 2020 at 12:33 pm
Who gives a flying F about the future right now. Look, everyone wins the Super Bowl every year – then most of the time it’s forgotten. But you can’t tell me who won the Super Bowl in 2008 without looking it up. Go be legendary, go be the first team in history to host their own Super Bowl. Go for f’ing immortality. 30yrs from now people will still be talking about us. If it means compromising 2021 or even 2022, so be it. Whoooo carrrres. Future isn’t promised to you
September 5th, 2020 at 12:34 pm
*a team wins the super bowl every year. Obviously not “everyone.” I feel sad that have the need to correct myself knowing there will be that one pedantic dork to correct me
September 5th, 2020 at 12:37 pm
Mike Evans is so professional. Another reason why he’s one of the best WR.
September 5th, 2020 at 12:39 pm
Have we gotten down to our first rendition of the final 53?
September 5th, 2020 at 12:48 pm
The Squatch would officially crap his pants if they signed Clowney; athough I don’t actually wear pants, so I suppose I’ll dump 💩 in the woods instead.
September 5th, 2020 at 12:50 pm
Isn’t that where Sasquatches (plural?) usually crap? 🙂
September 5th, 2020 at 12:56 pm
There is El Buco trolling again.
Trolling – (verb), as it relates to internet, is the deliberate act, (by a Troll – noun or adjective), of making a controversial comment on a forum with the intent to provoke an argument.
Thanks for playing Troll.
Troll – Someone who deliberately pisses people off online to get a reaction.
Seems like antisocial behavior to me:
Psychopath – a person having an egocentric and antisocial personality marked by a lack of remorse for one’s actions, an absence of empathy for others.
But certainly a guy that calls himself El Buco Realist and calls everyone else sheep does not have an egocentric personality.
September 5th, 2020 at 12:57 pm
Bruce ” all in for one year to hell with the future” Arians at least make it to the final four or all this will be for naught.
September 5th, 2020 at 1:02 pm
I will beat ndog to what he was going to say. Because it is so easy to know what he will spew out.
Ndog says mike Evans is a back stabbing idiot I hate him. Said he was boys with jameis. Then when jameis is gone he restructured his deal so the bucs can sign better players. Biggest screw job of any player ever in the league. Get rid of him and upgrade whole team. And players restructuring to sign them. It’s facts. I am right. Why can’t you people see this. I am right I am right. I can’t wait for this whole thing to blow up in the bucs face. We are screwed for the best ten years. Jameis was on the verge of being great. Why can’t you people see this.
September 5th, 2020 at 1:04 pm
I actually was hoping they’d make a play for Clowney. He probably would be a good fit for our defense. He likes to attack the ball and He’s not really a structured defense type of guy. So Shaq, jpp, cloweny… thats relentless right there!
September 5th, 2020 at 1:13 pm
The play for Clowney would at least jack up the price for the Saints…..good move.
September 5th, 2020 at 1:24 pm
LUV, spot on with the potential moves. Reddick may have the advantage given his relationship with Aryans. But Matthews would be great as well. They would both be depth / third down moves.
September 5th, 2020 at 1:25 pm
* ha, Arians…
September 5th, 2020 at 1:26 pm
Tbbucs3
Right on!! Make Payton pay through the nose!
September 5th, 2020 at 1:26 pm
Jeff, that was a pretty good nearly spot on imitation of lap dog.

Good teams make cap space.
Bad teams whine and complain about “cap hell”.
Only issue is why they wait until now to do this instead of doing it earlier to get guys in earlier. In any case – it’s about time.

Here you go LUV. You will make the 40th to sign up I believe.
Gonna be a good competition this yr!
September 5th, 2020 at 1:43 pm
If they stick to one year deals, the money will be available next year anyway.
I say save the cash in case our kicker doesn’t work out.
September 5th, 2020 at 1:45 pm

“What did MikeEvans do?
He is getting and demanding every penny of that contract
sacrifice? Kobe has been unemployed for the last 10 years because of his bad drinking problem. It all started with that nasty tasting JBF/Jason Liicht Ale beer
Kobe Faker has been sick to his stomach ever since”
Kobe Faker
September 5th, 2020 at 2:11 pm
I have never, and will never understand anything Kobe Faker says….. smh
September 5th, 2020 at 2:28 pm
Room for Godwin and David?
September 5th, 2020 at 3:07 pm
He still gets his money… assuming it was originally guaranteed, it’s still guaranteed. It doesn’t even mean payment is spread… Converting it to a bonus just allows them to spread the cap hit over the duration of the contract, even though payment is all this year. It really makes no difference to Mike Evans.
September 5th, 2020 at 4:02 pm
What a amazing sacrifice Mike Evans made. He allowed the team to pay him his money upfront in bonus instead of weekly during the season. I wish I could make that sacrifice on my contract work. I love Mike Evans and it shows that the team has faith in his professionalism but it’s really not a reduction or postponement in his pay.
September 5th, 2020 at 5:45 pm
Just fab up that man’s Ring of Honor sign already.
