Super Bowl-Bound?

Predictions.
The Bucs have made no secret, whether it is coming from the very highest reaches of One Buc Palace or towel boys, that this year the Bucs are hellbent on gunning to be the first team to play in a Super Bowl held in its home stadium.
The Super Bowl in Tampa is Feb. 7. Joe assumes fans will be allowed in to watch.
Various writers, stenographers and talking heads over at NFL Network have made their predictions for the season. And Joe doesn’t know if this is a good omen or a sign of impending doom, but five NFL Network/NFL.com employees predict that the Bucs will reach their goal.
Each has the Bucs losing to the Chiefs.
Nate Burleson: Chiefs over Buccaneers. The Bucs become the first team in history to host the Super Bowl, but that’s where the history-making stops for Tom Brady this time around. It’s Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes who head back home with new hardware.
DeAngelo Hall: Chiefs over Buccaneers. Tom Brady gives Patrick Mahomes a run for his money late in the game, but it’s ultimately the young gunslinger who outshines the veteran with a game-winning touchdown drive. Mahomes gets his second ring. Four more to go to match the G.O.A.T.
Maurice Jones-Drew: Chiefs over Buccaneers. The Chiefs ride their Patrick Mahomes-led offense to back-to-back titles, but it’s the rookie, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who scores the game-winning touchdown.
Adam Rank: Chiefs over Buccaneers. I don’t have the Chiefs taking the AFC West, which should be a surprise. Not because the Chiefs will stumble, but the talent of the AFC West is so good. Still, they end up going on a roll in the playoffs and capture back-to-back titles. And now Andy Reid is getting close to entering the conversation for best coach in NFL history.
Peter Schrager: Chiefs Over Buccaneers. In Super Bowl LV, it’s Patrick Mahomes (the best of his generation) over Tom Brady (the best of his generation). In Tampa Bay, no less.
Ha! Leave it to Schrager, a closet Bucs fan, to be driving the Bucs bandwagon to the Super Bowl.
You know, if last year someone with a crystal ball told Bucs fans that after being one of the worst franchises in the second decade of the 21st century, the payoff would be a trip to the Super Bowl in Tampa; that almost seems like a fair trade for so absorbing so much headache, heartache and irritable bowel syndrome.
And hey, if the Bucs get to the Super Bowl, who says the Chiefs will win?
First and foremost, the Bucs must make the playoffs. No excuses. Not this year for the way the franchise has added talent to the roster.

Because it is not like 2002 at all. This roster is far more talented than 2002. Remember that Brad Johnson was 1st year with team and won SB and TB12 is far superior to Brad Johnson. Our current WR tandem is far superior to K. Johnson and McCardell. Our He’s are far superior to 2002. RB is upgraded over Pittman…..see, nothing like 2002. Only the defense is not as talented but they will be good enough.

The Super Bowl team was partially home grown, just like this years team. Gruden brought in a number of free agents to seal the deal. So, what’s the difference?

Tell that to Warren Sapp, Simeon Rice, John Lynch, Derrick Brooks, Rhônde Barber, Mike Alstott, Keyshawn Johnson and many others….

This team does still feel home grown, sort of. Three offensive players added (Free Agents, Brady & Fournette – traded for Gronk) Three defensive players added (Free Agents – Shaq & Suh – traded for JPP) The super bowl team had Gruden, Brad Johnson, Pittman, Keyshawn, McCardell, Jerivicious, Roman Oben and whoever the TE was (that offense was totally revamped. The defense had Greg Spires and Simeon Rice. So the previous SB team had more talent that was not drafted by the team but the core was there

I mean I’m not going to complain about having the NFL sack leader, JPP, Suh, Vea, LD54, Devin White on the D side.
But I can’t square my mouth enough to say our D is better than 2002.

I did not say the defense is more talented than 2002. The offense absolutely is….at least on paper. The defense will be good and has some star power with Suh, JPP and Shaq. So, as a whole I do believe 2020 roster is better than 2002. Also, under the vanilla rules regarding hard hits, who knows if the 2002 defense would have been as dominant with current restrictions. It was a different game back then.

Gruden brought in 3 TE’s Ken Dilger Ricky Dudley Marco Battaglia. 2 WR’s McCardell, Jerivicious and RB Pittman because Warrick Dunn signed with Atlanta. Gruden overhauled the Offense. So many have Gruden won a super bowl with Tonys Defense, yes, but it was Grudens offense that he put together for the 2002 season that complimented that World Championship Defense that was in Tampa Bay. If Tony would have loaded up on offense like Gruden did, he would been the coach in the 2002 season in Tampa Bay. But He was all about ground and pound and Defense. Which BTW is not how he won a Super Bowl. He won the Super Bowl with a great offense and an good defense but nothing like he built in Tampa. GO BUCS

I’m not buying into any of this hype. Hope the team is just looking at the task at hand and not paying any attention to the talking heads. Also, no way to compare this D to the SB D. Different game with different rules.
