The Bucs Are Trying To Trade Down, Not Up

Forget manbeast Ndamukong Suh or his fellow defensive tackle Gerald McCoy.
Rather, the Bucs may be settling for Dez Bryant or Eric Berry.
That is if they even have a first round pick.
It must be the NFL offseason because it’s the NFL rumor season, as the innuendos are flying faster than texts to an available Rachel Watson.
Over the weekend, Joe read the Bucs were trying to obtain the Rams’ pick, the first overall in the draft.
Now Joe has learned from BSPN NFL honcho Adam Schefter that instead, the Bucs are trying to trade down.
Twittering as he is wont to do, Schefter — in his 140-character limit, offers words that the Bucs are trying to unload the third overall pick in the draft. He then backed up his findings in a small article on BSPN.com.
Each of the teams picking in the top four come late April — St. Louis, Detroit, Tampa Bay and Washington — has discussed trading its pick and moving out of its spot, multiple NFL sources said Tuesday.
Joe knows the Bucs need all sorts of help so trading down, if a suitor can be found, is actually not a dumb move by Bucs general manager Mark Dominik. What Joe would like to know is, what is spooking Dominik and the rest of the general managers. Sure, Joe knows money is behind this.
This just reinforces to Joe that NFL teams are preparing to go to the mattresses for a labor stoppage of some sort for the 2011 season — if there is a 2011 season.

Hey Joe:
I have a bit of a different perspective on why these teams might be trying to trade out of the top five and get more picks.
As I’m sure you know, this draft has tied the all time record for juniors declaring early. This happened because of the looming rookie salary cap…which I’m sure you already know as well. So because the vast majority of the best jumiors came out for this draft, it is considered by many to be the strongest draft in over two decades.
Basicly what you have is a 2nd round this year that is full of:
A. Seniors that would have been in the first round in a normal year, but are projected for the 2nd because of the huge amount of great Juniors that declared and took thier projected spot in the 1st round.
B. Juniors that would have likely been the 1st round seniors of next years draft had they stayed in school one more year, instead of declaring early to beat the rookie salary cap rules and get paid.
If you look at the situation in these terms, you realize that this year’s 1st and 2nd rounds are really just one big, extended 64 pick 1st round. This has a ripple effect on the rest of the draft as well. There should be alot of steals in the 3rd and 4th as well. If you buy into this theoy, which I do, it’s makes sense for teams to stockpile as many picks as possible.
On a seprate but somewhat related note, this threory also leads me to believe that next year’s draft will be very weak. There will of course be studs to draft, but the overall talent level of next years draft will be lacking great seniors…because 95% of them came out this year as Juniors. Because of this, and the fact that Rheem and Dom need results now to keep thier jobs…I don’t think it is out of the rhealm of possibilties that we trade away next year’s 1st round pick to get more now. I’d usually be totally against such a move, but in this situation I actually think it might be a goood idea.

The best advice for the bucs is to get Peppers from FA, so they can trade down and draft a wr or ss if berry still there. Peppers would be a major impact on how they will draft.

Trading down is going to be hard if top 4 teams are trying to do it. Simple supply and demand — teams looking to trade up could get a good deal.

Peppers is a horrible idea. This ain’t Madden dude. In a few years when this young team is really coming into it’s own…Peppers would be like 33 and on the decline. Plus he only plays when he feels like it, he wants too much money, he wouldn’t come here cause he wants a SuperBowl ring NOW, he is quiet and has depression issues, he is not a leader….did I mention Peepers is a horrible idea?
Antell Rolle and Dunte Robinson are the two free agents we should be watching. We should probably resign Angelo Crowell too and see what he can do now that he is healthy.

As far as trading next years 1st, I think next years draft will suck also, so I’m all for it. Maybe we could get Brandon MArshall and Denvers 2nd round pick for it?

im up for whatever the bucs deside to do ! raheem and dominik r on thin ice cuz if they dont turn it around real quick like they wont be back and we will be lookin for a new head coach and gm so to think they might trade next years 1rst rounder is not totally out of the question if they knew what was goin to happen next year if we have football or not!

As good as the bucs draft could be this year, I can’t imagine us suddenly becoming a playoff team just like that. Our 1st rounder next year in all likelihood (be honest with yourself now!) will still be a top 15 pick.
Better get appropriate value if youre gunna make a trade like that.

Let me go on record as saying that the Bucs better not trade down.
Why would you trade the #3 pick in THIS draft unless you were
trying to save money?
Yes lots of teams are doing it………our owners were ahead of the
curve for frugality…..which is why they need to show us that
they really give rats arse about whether the Bucs are ever
champions again or not.
