New Bucs K Ryan Succop.
If Bucs incumbent kicker Matt Gay didn’t have a wakeup call when the Bucs signed veteran kicker Ryan Succop last night, he surely got one this morning when Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians took to the microphone for his post-practice presser.
Arians made it clear as day the kicker job for the Bucs is up for grabs. In less than a week, Arians will pick the Bucs’ kicker for 2020.
“It is always a competition,” Arians said of signing Succop. “It’s two guys fighting for a job. Ryan’s got a really good resume. He was injured. He is healthy. … It will be a competition for the next few days.”
Next week NFL teams have to set their rosters — which means the season is about to start.
Now Joe would not be shocked if Arians stashes a kicker on the practice squad because of The Sickness. That may sound crazy but 2020 is crazy year.
Could the Bucs have their fifth different opening day kicker in as many years?

The ghost of Matt Bryant still haunts the halls of 1Buc Palace. Barth was good but not Matt Bryant good. Just hope they make the right choice, it is not fun everytime they line up for a placekick and you have that uneasy feeling and your just hoping it goes through. GO BUCS!!!

Ndog… welcome to the NFL…you can’t improve everything in one season. This year was the year for improved RT, Safety, and QB. Next year…another position. And hopefully FG kicker. If you aren’t doing that, you will not build a winning franchise.

Succop is a great kicker and reliable, but I wonder about his leg these days. It was his kicking leg that he had surgery on, right?
I know he stated last year “the pop wasn’t there” and I wonder how the leg is now 🙏 all I want for Xmas besides my two front teeth is a reliable kicker for this year

I am just disgusted tonight, simply pissed. A game we should have won and we play so poorly on offense and special teams. Just piss poor all the way around, no excuse cause it wasn’t the new guys it was the guys we count on. Jameis, OJ, Brate, Barber the coaches all sucked today and blew a great game by the defense.

Matt Gay is not a good enough kicker to be on any roster poised to make a deep playoff run. It’s fine to bring him along if you’re rebuilding but the Bucs are past that.

Look I do agree with Ndog because I have been saying the same thing for the past 4 years . This roster has not been good for Jamies and the running game has been more of the problem with this team . Especially with a young quarterback who came to a team that’s been losing a long time . I’ve been pointing at the team around him for a long time and now that Brady is here every body in the national media is talking about a running game . The last 4 years Jamies was blamed for the every thing wrong with the team . We couldn’t run the ball because of Jamies we couldn’t play good defense because of Jamies . We shouldn’t have to worry about the kicker because if you are a franchise quarterback then you should know not to trust the kicker so you should scored and not depend on the kicker . Bruce Arians threw Jamies under the bus doing the off season and said he was the problem . Now all I’m hearing is kicking competitions and now we drafted 2 runningbacks and sign a veteran runningback . It does look like that Bruce Arians set Jamies up to fail people can make that argument . Because to the media and to Bruce Arians and this fan base Jamies was the only problem . So I do understand what Ndog is saying and he’s right rather you like or not . But the way I feel now it’s football season and it’s time to stick together and learn from the past when it comes to quarterback. We have to stop looking for scapegoats and that’s blaming the quarterback and look at the hold team as a hold … Go Bucs …..
