Bucs May Not Miss No. 3 WR

Renewed focus.
Last year when Bucs stars Mike Evans and Chris Godwin went down with bum wheels, No. 3 receiver Breshad Perriman blew up.
To that point, Perriman almost had been a non-factor. But he raised his game big time in the latter few weeks of the season. A free agent, Perriman signed with the Jets in March.
Joe thought the Bucs, who only had so many shekels to go around, would miss him. They may not.
As Albert Breer of SI.com pointed out, two guys who are so far the stars of Bucs training camp (aside from park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring Bucs quarterback Tom Brady, of course) may very well make Bucs fans forget about Perriman so long as they carry their excellent training camp play into the regular season.
That would be tight end O.J. Howard and wide receiver Scotty Miller.
@AlbertBreer: Howard and Miller are MUCH improved. The team’s noticed how Howard’s playing more focused, with fewer drops, and is better in contested situations (he made a couple circus catches while I was there). Miller’s always been fast, but he’s just now starting to play to that speed.
Joe will take a stab and suggest this is all the residual effects of Brady, reinvigorating Howard and giving him a renewed focus. With Miller, Brady playing is the part of surrogate coach and Miller’s time this summer working out with Brady at Berkeley Prep has very likely rubbed off on the Bowling Green product.
Joe hated to see Perriman go. But Joe surely loves how Howard and Miller look in training camp.

Shhhhh, keep it quiet! I think I still maybe able to get Juice for $1 in my fantasy salary cap draft! I really hope he has a breakout year!

What do we know about Tyler Johnson’s injury……..and, I agree….the #3 WR is less important if we use the TEs more often

Brady is the TE Whisperer.
He even got productivity out of Aaron Hernandez. (Please, no jokes here. That guy brought a lot of grief to a lot of people).

I’m thinking Howard suffered the same date as Desean Jackson, James just wouldn’t use him, for whatever reason, and he copped an attitude

Gronk for Perriman, We will be just fine. Yeah Gronk is old, but the HOF TE is a known quantity, as for Perriman, he is still mostly unrealised potential. It took most of year for Perriman to begin to catch the ball consistantly. That had been an issue with him in Clevland and then here also, but he improved when called upon at the end of last year. Hopefully for his sake, he can be consistant for the Jets. As for the Gronkster, Money in the bank, Glue for hands. Deadly in the red zone. Gronk > Perriman GO BUCS!!!

I don’t know if I’d credit Brady for the Scooter progress, he was beginning to show some promise at the end of last season and he seems to still be progressing. But Howard on the other hand, I would agree that Brady has helped him immensely.

“Learning to play with speed” is the most interesting revelation of the year.
Henry Ruggs (Alabama WR drafted by Oakland) educated reporters during the draft. Yes, he is ridiculously fast, but more importantly, he knows how to play with speed. Ruggs observed most fast guys slow down to make cuts, while he has perfected the ability to maintain his speed.
Brady came in and started teaching guys the same thing. How to make cuts that maintain speed.
I find it interesting that football has been around for a billion years and very few people understand this technique.

Justin Watson seems to be making a lot of plays while Godwin was off. Maybe this will be a breakthrough year for him too.

Don’t sleep on Watson either. He has a ton of talent and athleticism. Hopefully this is the season he puts it all together.

Perriman is yesterday’s news. We are freaking loaded right now at WR and TE. And, I’m starting to get loaded myself!

I also feel that the Gronk signing will help us forget all about Perriman as well. To a lesser extent McCoy will help as well giving us a receiving option from the backfield.

things have changed so drastically, missing perriman has become an offseason after thought…
he would’ve lit it up here with brady…
