“Nimble” Tom Brady

August 22nd, 2020

Sees what Joe sees.

Joe’s hardcore readers know that thus far in training camp, Joe has an overlying theme: Joe believes park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring Bucs quarterback Tom Brady is much more nimble than Joe ever believed him to be.

Now Joe has always qualified that statement with the fact that “this Joe” rarely watched the Belicheats, who Brady led to six Super Bowl wins. Not even their past few Super Bowls. Even the loss to the Eagles, Joe never saw live.

(That’s right. But Joe did enjoy that Eagles win a few times later on NFL Network.)

Joe watches football for entertainment. The Belicheats are one of Joe’s least favorite teams in all sports. So Joe is not going to burn three hours of his life willingly choosing to be aggravated and later having to run to Walgreens to buy antacid.

From highlights and games Joe has seen of Brady, he came across as the epitome of a pocket passer.

In training camp practices, Brady sure looks more nimble than Joe recalls. Yes, Joe used the word “nimble.”

But guess who else used that same word to describe Bucs Brady? That would be hot-dog-eating-contest-protestingmock-draft-scowlingL.L. Bean-wearingSecond Amendment abolitionistMike-Florio-arguingparrot-insensitivechewing-with-his-mouth-opensoup-gulpingCalifornia-train-romancinganti-football proliferationouthouse-admiringairline-nappingsteerage-flyingYogi Berra-worshipingurinal-picture-takingvideo-game-playingTaylor-Swift-listeningpickpocket-thwartingBucs-uniform-frowningAllie-LaForce-smittenBig-Ten-Network-hatingpedestrian-bumpingolive oil-lappingpopcorn-munchingcoffee-slurpingfried-chicken-eatingoatmeal-lovingcircle-jerking, craft-beer-chugging, cricket-watchingscone-loathingcollege football-naïvebaseball-box-score-readingNPR-honkfilthy-hotel-stayingfight-instigatingbarista-trainingBudweiser-tolerantbaseball scorecard-keeping, pasta-feasting, vomit-dodging scrooge, Kay-Adams-following, social activist NFL insider Peter King of NBC Sports.

King recently watched a Bucs practice in his abbreviated 2020 training camp tour. But he did have a Zoom sitdown with Brady for his podcast. And he dropped the word “nimble” describing Brady with the Bucs.

In his podcast, King asked Brady how he felt as a 43-year old quarterback. Brady laughed and replied, “How did I look out there today at practice?”

King then shared a review with Brady watching him practice in a creamsicle Bucs non-contact jersey.

“You go out and you are doing all these things where you are running around,” King said. “You are throwing outside the pocket. You are weaving in and out of people. … And I just started to think to myself, ‘Man, this is not Tom Brady. Tom Brady is the pocket guy. He is not the guy running out of the pocket all the time and throwing it the way he is now.'”

So it is not just Joe that thought — and witnessed — the same thing. Now Joe is not saying Brady is mobile but he is bouncing around in a modified moving pocket. And King has watched a whole lot more of the Belicheats than Joe.

King did add one very good point about Brady’s mobility: it might be a practice thing and not a game thing.

“But those are drills,” King said. “You just don’t know.”

    So another Brady myth destroyed?

  2. Buczilla Says:

“Out of sight out of mind” was often running for his life behind our slightly above average line last year, so Brady will need every shred of that nimbleness.

  3. Al da pewter King Says:

I too actually believe that in this offense there will be more pocket movement for Tom Brady and occasional scrambling. He will be required to move around more.

  4. PSL Bob Says:

Arians’/Lefwich’s offense is predicated on the long ball. You need extra time for those plays to develop. So yeah, you better be able to move around a little. Looks like the new Bucs offense will indeed be a little of BA/BL and a little TB. Can’t wait to see it unfold on the field in just 3 short weeks.

  5. SB Says:

If Brady does call for a roll out play he will stick with the plan and the OL will know exactly where he is without seeing him. He won’t try to scramble for 5 seconds and get outside of his blockers thereby taking a sack

Everything from this on was a great article. Pretty much nothing but crap before that.

Hope he’s ‘nimble’ later. If hes not. He’ll make up for it.

    Here it is!! Another one.

More key strokes and article space taken up by your Peter King over the top intro and Pooh Poohing the GOAT with your attempt at humor. Very Lame and amateurish as usual. Who thinks it’s funny? Anybody? Besides you?

  11. Paul Says:

Sounds like Roy T. Buford aint too crazy about your shtick either. Stick to the stories and news and leave the humor to others. Thx.

  12. AwShbucs Says:

And now the GOAT is on my team! GO BUCS!

  13. REDZONE BA Fan Says:

We shall see how nimble. Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face. Brady throws as beautiful a ball as I have seen, perfectly tight spirals with precision placement – from a clean pocket. Maybe last’s years QB held the ball too long many times, but there were also bull rushes where he had to scramble before he could set his feet. This year will be telling in a lot a ways about the team. Let the games begin!

  14. SOEbuc Says:

A tiny amount of mobile Brady just gives him that much more time to find his guy.

Seems like Peter King and Joe have some kinda SEO deal going on to link to each other’s past articles. That or there’s someone grading Joe on his word count. 🤷‍♀️

One of the very rare times I looked at the comments before reading the article!
    Sorry Joe

    Paul
Lame is complaining about the same thing over and over and over and over….
    GET OVER IT!

The game that Knute Rockne coached, Jim Brown played in during the fifties, Terry Bradshaw played in the seventies and Joe Montana played in the eighties are truly each different “eras”. Brady is the GOAT because he is the only one to win six super bowls. Bradshaw was the first to win four.

The game of football really is different for each era. Comparing the best is a never ending argument. That’s what makes it so much fun!.

I did not see Jim Brown play but I was lucky enough to see Bradshaw and Montana at their best.

    “Ah loves me some football!”

Joe you’re a bucs fan so the above statement is a flat out lie and you’re in denial. Hahaha
