Scotty Miller’s Lost Breakfast
August 18th, 2020Maybe Scotty Miller won’t be diving for too many balls in practice in the future?
An interesting thing happened before the gazing eyes of hot-dog-eating-contest-protesting, mock-draft-scowling, L.L. Bean-wearing, Second Amendment abolitionist, Mike-Florio-arguing, parrot-insensitive, chewing-with-his-mouth-open, soup-gulping, California-train-romancing, anti-football proliferation, outhouse-admiring, airline-napping, steerage-flying, Yogi Berra-worshiping, urinal-picture-taking, video-game-playing, Taylor-Swift-listening, pickpocket-thwarting, Bucs-uniform-frowning, Allie-LaForce-smitten, Big-Ten-Network-hating, pedestrian-bumping, olive oil-lapping, popcorn-munching, coffee-slurping, fried-chicken-eating, oatmeal-loving, circle-jerking, craft-beer-chugging, cricket-watching, scone-loathing, college football-naïve, baseball-box-score-reading, NPR-honk, filthy-hotel-staying, fight-instigating, barista-training, Budweiser-tolerant, baseball scorecard-keeping, pasta-feasting, vomit-dodging scrooge, Kay-Adams-following, social activist NFL insider Peter King of NBC Sports at Bucs practice on Friday. And it added to the second-year wide receiver’s physical woes.
Last year as a rookie, it seemed Miller’s biggest obstacle was staying healthy. Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians absolutely loves Miller’s speed. But Miller has struggled to stay healthy whether it was the heat last year or a pulled leg muscle or something else, Miller’s biggest speed bump in his short NFL career is staying on the active roster.
That seemed to continue Friday when after making an amazing play on a pass from park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring Bucs quarterback Tom Brady, Miller had an embarrassing episode that nearly every football player has confronted, documents King.
One last highlight: The 5-9 Miller, a blur with 4.33 speed, scratching and clawing his way into serious plans here two years removed from the Mid-American Conference, got a step on safety Jordan Whitehead running for the right pylon and Brady lofted a 48-yard sky job over the safety—right into a diving Miller’s hands. Great throw and catch. Looked like Miller was shaken up as he slow-jogged back upfield, but he wasn’t letting go of the ball. But he did give it up as he got back to midfield, where his mates were gathered. A minute or so later, Miller still looked like he was in discomfort. He walked a few yards away from the offensive group, took off his helmet, bent over slightly and unleashed a torrent of vomit on the ground.
Moral to the story? Since you’ve already made the roster and the coach likes you, maybe think twice about diving for a pass in underwear football.
This reminded Joe of watching Dallas play at Cleveland on Monday Night Football. Roger Staubach and Drew Pearson were still playing for the Cowboys.
Dallas had just come off the field after a Cowboys touchdown and ABC cameras showed Pearson chugging Gatorade and chatting with teammates on the Cowboys’ bench.
The Browns fumbled the ball away quickly and Dallas’ offense went right back on the field.
On first down Roger Staubach aimed for Pearson along the right sideline. Pearson got absolutely blasted in the ribs/stomach/midsection area. Lit up! Mind you, Pearson had just seconds prior filled his belly with cold Gatorade and then absorbed.
Well, Pearson took a few steps onto the field, paused, and then a river of yellow Gatorade puke spewed through his face mask, right when one of the ABC cameras zoomed in on him.
That was the first time Joe ever saw an NFL player yack on the field.
Joe is not sure from King’s detailed description if Miller tossed Gatorade or orange juice or eggs or bacon or biscuits and gravy. Joe would hope Miller is smart enough not to eat sausage before practice.

You practice how you play. Good for
Miller for laying out

“unleashed a torrent of vomit on the ground”
That’s how feel when I read yet another post by “Clean House” defending the spectacular play of last years quarterback and current clipboard holder for the Saints.

This is the second time I have seen Scotty Miller listed at 5′ 9″. I thought Scotty was 5’11”. Maybe Joe knows……
August 18th, 2020 at 6:51 am
He measured in at 69.13 inches at the combine.

Just what I needed to read while eating my bowl of Cheerios

Gbobucsfan says, “He measured in at 69.13 inches at the combine.”
He must have had a growth spurt as the Bucs have him listed as 5’11”.

I am amazed by how many people, professionals included, exercise with a full stomach. It’s common for folks to eat on the way to the gym!? It appears that Pearson drank too much at one sitting, while performing. Pros should have more knowledge! Yo no comprendo?

He doesn’t even look that. He certainly isn’t 5-11, that’s for damn sure. He’s a little dude.
Joe has to be honest, he doesn’t walk into the locker room (back in the good ol’ days when reporters had access to the locker room) carrying a tape measure. 🙂

Joe says, “He doesn’t even look that. He certainly isn’t 5-11, that’s for damn sure. He’s a little dude.”
So how the does the Bucs get away listing Scotty at 5’11”? Is it all discretionary and up to each team to be honest?

No idea. Honestly the league has bigger fish to fry right now than if a team has a wide receiver grow a few inches in offseason.

This guy has been waay overated by many since his rookie year. All Miller has is speed. Watson on the other hand, has great athleticism and speed, good hands, and can be a physical blocker down field.
August 18th, 2020 at 9:45 am
Watson has top end speed, but Scotty had the fastest or one of the fastest 3 cone drills at the combine. He can get off the line quicker than most WRs. I think he’ll be useful with Brady’s quick release.

I think I remember Donavan McNabb throwing up under center when he played us down here…

Speed and the quicks are different.., like et and trap speed on a drag strip.
Miller has the quicks in heaping proportions.
It to s much harder defending the quicks than just speed.

T M I FOR ME

They will end the season if someone vomits on the field nowadays ; )
August 18th, 2020 at 10:38 pm
That’s a helluva point.

You play how you practice.
Second year bubble players should still be going all out IMO
