The Bucs won’t head to play the Raiders in Vegas until Oct. 25 (no fans allowed), but the game is clearly in Jon Gruden’s head.
Joe often watches Chucky’s news conferences with the Raiders. Why? First, they’re far more engaging than non-football entertainment. Plus, they conjure memories of a happier Bucs time, so they soothe Joe versus, say, a Jameis Winston or Greg Schiano news conference.
Chucky recently was asked about integrating many new pieces into his defense.
He talked about how new Raiders assistant Rod Marinelli will tweak the education and discipline of defensive linemen, but he also added that his offense will be try to push the defense as often as possible with “formations and different tempos to try to get’em ready.” Chucky went on to specifically mention how Tom Brady will “to turn up the tempo and turn up the heat on us.”
Most head coaches only talk in the summer about being ready for opening day, or perhaps division rivals. But not Chucky.
There he is in late July barking about Tom Brady jacking up the tempo to take advantage of a still-learning defense.
What Sunday Night Football fun this will be.

If only the Glaziers told Gruden & McKay to cut the BS and work together, the Bucs may have won another SB. Allen was a joke as GM.

Hellz yeah go HAM we only got Brady for 2 years. Would love to see that hybrid cat get some snaps to spell out Brady for a change of pace give the old man some rest.

@me again You must not have been around back then, because it was the Glazers that cut Chucky by not allowing him to spend any money while they banked all cash to buy the soccer club in the UK. They cut all spending and Chucky had to get old players to come here on the cheap. And he still went to the play-offs. The Glazer boys have always been the core problem with the Bucs since inheriting the team from Malcolm.

“but he also added that his offense will be try to push the defense as often as possible” I remember a (SI?) piece on this, this was his same mentality when he got to Tampa. He didn’t care the defense was world-class, he pushed his offense to beat them in practice.

The NFL would like nothing better than to have a rematch between the Bucs and Raiders in this years Superbowl. The side stories abound.

My Company cleaned Jon Gruden’s roof, but I never met him.
We also cleaned Tony Dungy, and we did meet him!
I really like Jon Gruden as a coach, but don’t think his current team will beat us. We just have way too much talent, on both sides of the ball for the Raiders, IMHO.

Gruden had Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan as a assistants on the Bucs … both possible HC replacements and two of the leading coaches today.
Who’d we follow up with: Raheem, Schiano, Lovie , and Dirk

Glad we’re finally back on track. We may want to look at Gruden’s assistants (or Andy Reid’s) when selecting the next BA’s replacement.

Gruden might have 1 winning season during his ten year contract. He was hoping they’d resign Jameis so he could gloat over the Galzers but now he’s scared cus we got Brady

It is amazing to me that Chucky is terrible at picking players because to me he was a master at discussing players when he was commentating on the draft on TV, even on the seventh round.
