This is one example of when the PFF tribe can benefit society.
For the first time since Joe purchased his current abode, Joe saw a rat over the weekend. Doing laundry in the garage, Joe saw a rat scurry away along the wall bordering the exterior.
Joe presumes someone mentioned PFF’s grades to the rodent.
Joe has no use for their grades. None! But some of their stats “this Joe” finds informative (the other Joe believes the tribe offers zero value to mankind and instead is a monument on how to hoodwink consumers).
So the tribe put up stats yesterday of quarterbacks with the best on-target percentage with passes over 10 yards since 2014.
The usual suspect was there, Drew Brees. Two others appeared on the list that slightly surprised Joe: Andrew Luck and Pat Mahomes.
But who had the highest percentage of on-target passes over 10 yards since 2014? That would be park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring Bucs quarterback Tom Brady.
So this is another piece of evidence that suggests replacing Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, and his lethal deep ball with Brady may not mean the end of the Bucs’ vertical passing attack.
Highest percentage of 10 + yard throws that were on target since 2014:
1. Tom Brady – 54.0%
2. Andrew Luck – 53.8%
3. Patrick Mahomes – 52.3%

He is 4th in the Estimated Completion Percentage also.
This is with having the least amount of separation from his
WRs which means he fits balls into tighter windows.

Now he has better WRs and TEs from last year.

We’ve been “told” that Brady couldn’t throw a roll of menthos through a hoola-hoop at 10 yards!

C’mon, Joe(s)…this statistic is extremely misleading because its an average going back to 2014! Nobody is saying TB12 was “never” good at the deep ball; they’re saying his deep ball has dropped off in recent years.

One thing for sure, is the YAC is going to increase. There has not been consistantly accurate throws made by whoever has QB’d here for a long time. There is a big difference when the QB hits the reciever on the run without the WR or RB having to stop and turn back most of the time. It is going to be a fun offense to watch. But the deffense going up against air for practice does not give anyone a clue what they will play like this year. But it is comforting to know we have a Defensive Cordinator and staff that turned the defense around in 10 games last year, from years of fear-based technique to aggressive style of in being your face, blitzing and press coverage. No more lining up and surrendering a first down based on the positioning of the cornerbacks alone. How many Buc fans during the previous coaching staff, have screamed at the TV about the CBs lining up 10 yards off the Ball and then backpedaling on the snap and just give first downs away. I am one of them lol lol It is New Day in Tampa Bay! Go Bucs.

I think people miss the point with this. It isn’t about Brady’s ability to throw the deep ball. IMO it is about whether Brady has the willingness to stand in the pocket and take hits in this offense. Mike Evans is a great receiver, but he’s not a YAC guy for one reason. He’s not shifty enough to make people miss in space. He’s like Vincent Jackson. He can get open and make contested catches due to his size, but not going to take a slant to the house like Odell. That’s OK though. Now Godwin is a better YAC guy IM, because he has a little more wiggle.
I know people are going to say “Brady gets the ball out quick.” That’s partially correct, because that requires a scheme and receivers for that to be successful. The Bucs don’t have those players. Maybe Scotty Miller will be that guy. You also have to have precise route running for that to be successful. Evans and Godwin are a great tandem, but they aren’t elite route runners. That’s OK. I hope Brady will be comfortable throwing those 50/50 balls to Evans and Godwin. They are among he best at it.

I’m thinking that TB12 *chose* this team because of the ‘weapons’ AND the coaching style. I think he wants to show that he is NOT the dink and dunk QB he was forced to be in NE.
He’s looking to “open it up”!
Some believe or will accept a slight drop off from last years numbers. I anticipate record blasting numbers in yards, TD’s, wins, etc.
It’s his personality type. He can’t stand mediocrity.

I didn’t know Chris Godwin being 6th in the entire NFL among all players in YAC was due to bad QB play from our starter? I guess all of those throws came from a different QB than our starter last year. Good to know…

with the puppies thinking, Carolina, LAC, niners, saints, and minn had great qb play by their starters. All of the teams mentioned had a players with better yac than godwin.
