Shaq Spooked By The COVID

Concerned.
It seems NFL sack king Shaq Barrett is between a rock and a hard place. And it has nothing to do with his contract negotiations.
Shaq dropped a (sketchy) phone call to “The Blitz” yesterday, co-hosted by Bruce Murray and Brady Quinn, heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio. A combination of Shaq’s excitable delivery and his phone constantly cutting out made for a tough listen.
And aside from him saying he will be playing for the Bucs this fall whether he gets a new deal or has to sign his franchise tag, Shaq confessed he’s torn about resuming football.
On one hand he is sick of working out and very much misses being on a football field. Shaq just wishes that field he steps on for training camp (still scheduled for July 28) wasn’t at One Buc Palace.
When Murray asked Shaq if he was “counting down the days” to get back on a football field and start training camp, Shaq made it clear he is anything but eager to return to Florida.
“I am not counting down the days,” Shaq said firmly. “Because the COVID in Florida is getting a lot worse than it was initially.
“But I am excited to get back on the field, man. I do miss it.”
Joe thought that was a very interesting response; Shaq has “The Sickness” foremost in his mind, especially with what else is happening in his life (more on that later this morning).
Joe wonders how many of Shaq’s teammates are less than excited about training camp in Florida with the state’s status on “The Sickness.”

When infection is asymptomatic in most cases it has no long term effects. However, even mild cases of Covid-19 are sentencing people of all ages to a lifetime of pulmonary insufficiency and other horrid damage to organ systems. Joe, I think that there are a significant number of Bucs and in fact all NFL athletes who are wondering if it’s worth taking a chance of losing their vitality, abilities and career.
This season is toast. Without avocado or anything else.

So Shaq totally ignores that the ‘sickness’ death rate in Florida as of 6/29/2020 is 16 deaths per 100,000 equating to 0.016%. Drug overdoses account for 22.8 deaths (per 100,000). With such a low mortality rate, why are we acting in fear? If we continue to operate in fear, there will be no NFL, MLB, NHL, etc. Joe Bucs Fan will have nothing to talk about, and it will disappear. Keep reporting spikes without sharing the mortality rates, and one side will get what they want, which is complete chaos and shutdown. Then Shaq can kiss his well deserved Payday goodbye! If the players don’t wake up, they’re going to be permanently unemployed. You don’t have to chose a side on who to believe. The fatalities tell you the truth, which is trending toward standard influenza numbers.

Data scientists and clinical professionals are still struggling with empirical knowledge of Covid impact on the normal healthy body – meaning persons absent of pre-morbidity issues. Pro-athlete or not, this weird virus is so new to the medical community…the only information known — is if you have it or not. What they do know, is that Covid damages your normal body with strange biological events in ways, that may not be reversible.
This S_it virus is really bad. And for those who think Covid is another version of the FLU….you are sadly mistaken. And you should hope that no senior members of your family members whose health issue are comprised —get this crap.
Wear a mask in public, please… MA and NY results prove that wearing masks and social distancing work……

Since the recovery time for mild cases of Covid is 2 weeks, the NFL could extend the season by re-doing the schedules and inserting a Bye week between every game of each team, thereby improving the chances of teams being closer to full strength every game.

Thank you Joe. It’s not JUST about the death rate. Studies are just emerging about the effects of this virus, one that we know very little about.
Why take the chance? Would you WANT to contract the flu? A cold? NO! And those have medical remedies that are well-known.
You’re a liar if you say that you would purposely contract this virus.
Maybe when we have more research, or a vaccine people will feel more comfortable.

Spikes matter in two ways:
It shows that the virus is spreading at an exponential rate in new areas. What is alarming is the virus has mutated since it was discovered in China. The strain that
has been prevalent in Europe and here in USA has spikes that are tougher. In other words ,they don’t fall off and allows more virus to attach to hosts, travel through the bloodstream to organs and other parts of the body.

Researchers are now showing some people who had asymptomatic system are having lung damage. Also, researchers are finding out that once you get Covid-19, the antibodies are not staying in your system very long. A recent screening of 175 covid-19 patient showed 1/3 had either low antibody levels or non at all. I can see the concern for Shaq as this virus has been hitting black people harder than whites. A positive blood type people are also 45% more susceptible of catching the virus.

Spot on Joe… these guys bodies are their careers. And we have seen how pulmonary issues have affected players in the past. Shaq has a right to be concerned. Easy for us to say, only one in 250 people affected now, so why should I be concerned? But they are called to be in a position that will put them more in harms way than we are. Those of us that take this lightly and risk spreading the disease without taking the best precautions possible, only have themselves to blame if we lose this season to this disease.

The NFL has to try to implement a bubble system like the NBA if they want a chance at controlling this. Players and coaches are already infected with it on the Bucs, no less. Even if the season started, there will be cases during the season that will derail a team from having a game with another team. It is bound to happen. I don’t think the NFL is thinking this through nearly as much as the NBA.

99.7% survival rate and 8/10 have already been exposed and most of them don’t even know they have it in their system already bcuz their body neutralized it before they even got sick from it..

If those stupid cloth/surgical masks were even minimally effective, and if there was actually a real threat from Covid, I would wear them everywhere.
Right now, I just say ‘medical exemption’ and go about my business normally.
Just for reference, all you ‘responsible’ people who are wearing masks that aren’t at least N95 and you’re also not wearing Sealed Safety Goggles, you are doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to lower your risk of anything.

Erik Hesson has it all figured out. Thank goodness for him and his Fox Media pals where he gets his source from. Erik got his doctorate in medicine and infectious disease while sitting on the john swiping through blogs and youtube in a matter of days. Doctors are so stupid for going through a minimum of 8 years of toil and trouble.
First of all, if people don’t know they have it, how do you get your 8/10 and 99.7% numbers from? A vacuum? Ms. Cleo? Guess work?
Second, increase in testing could also come back negative if people didn’t have this thing. Increase in testing AND positive results in droves = a problem. 500,000 deaths in 4-5 months is a problem to those affected. And that number is conservative and under-reported thanks to China alone hiding their true numbers.
Third, masks are to be used WITH social distancing. If you’re in constant contact with patients like nurses and doctors, then a face shield is needed with a mask. But, the mask alone is not meant as a solution to rub shoulders with anyone.
Some people can’t help being a luddite.

Shaq is a family man and has put that family ahead of himself, that is why he is spooked.
Too many have thought they were getting better and came home to have something else triggered.
Two A-sim adults gave it to their six month old, something that wasn’t expected to happen.
Now the virus has mutated and become more stable through the D614G mutation.
That added two proteins to it and appeared to make it more infectible. No one knows what else it means. It might be less virulent and might end up being just another corona virus.
It might go the other way and become the zombie plague some people think will be the only real pandemic.
There is no reason not to try to be safe and be worried, not enough id known of even it’s first iteration, much less what it is today.
I will put my family and friends first and takes precautions for them too.

Any rationale player has to be considering whether the health risk is worth it at this point. Especially in a hot spot like Florida where the “leadership” has no clear plan or desire to control the outbreak. Another point to consider is how the novel sickness is affecting children, causing inflammatory disease-like symptoms. Knowing by playing you could be endangering not just yourself, but children who can’t understand the risk or make decisions on their own, has to be extremely challenging for players.

AGAIN…we do not wear masks to protect ourselves from YOU…but rather protect YOU from us. Since as Eric points out you need an N-95…probably a face shield and some more PPE if you wish true personal safety.
HOWEVER does this make sense….if we wear masks…THE VAST MAJORITY of expert claim through research that this helps decrease the rates of infection.
So NO Erik I’m not protecting myself wearing a mask at least DIRECTLY…if we all wear masks we are protecting ourselves COLLECTIVELY NOT INDIVIDUALLY.
WTF happened in his country? We’re in this together? United we survive divided we fall? No more like that famous acronym….IGMGFY I ain’t wearin’ no stinkin’ mask.
Meanwhile we are no longer allowed to fly to Europe and not just because of our horrid rates and response to Covid…but also they shake their heads that MASKS have somehow become policital instead of just the smart response. IE they do not trust us! They think we’re stoooopid.

I wonder about how many of our military and first responders (medical police, firefigters have no choice but to go out and mingle with the low lifes where ever they live, breathe, and spit, and they must not be excited about having to do that with the “The Sickness.” Their only choice is do it or quit…and some of them cannot even do that. And look how society is treating them now?
So my sympathy for football players and other athletes right now is…zero.

And to clarify…I laud Shaq for his concern…and others…all should be. But for every one word on wanting to ensure we take care of players so we can take care of the season, and they can preserve their bodies…three should go for the cops and miiitary, and others right now…who have the same concerns. And with the risk they take, there is sure a lot less reward than with an NFL stud.

Most of you here on this forum are probably younger than I. This disease affects older folks more than the young adults. One person in Texas had a surprise birthday party for a member of his family and gave it to 18 of his family members. 3 went to the hospital and two were his grandparents. I couldn’t imagine how bad the guy felt. Never know if this thing is going to mutates to a more deadly disease.
I didn’t like shutting down the economy and local businesses, but I am all for wearing mask and protecting the older folks until we find a vaccine or a better treatment. If we did not have ventilators the deaths would be much higher. Rarely does someone who gets the flu goes on a ventilator. So yes – this thing is more deadly.

Fact is with increased testing “cases*” have gone up, but deaths have gone down.
Now the morbidity is less than 8% of what the “experts” told us it would be: 0.26% (vs. 3.4%), a few clicks worse than the flu. FACT.
Asymptomatic spread is STILL an “open question” according to the WHO and CDC. One WHO epidemiologist has declared is is “very rare.” If there was evidence of asymptomatic spread, with MILLIONS of asymptomatic “cases” around the world, don’t you think we’d know it by now, especially from the peddlers of fear? BTW: I read that the vast, vast majority of the + test cases are asymptomatic.
*I have asked the sky-is-falling crowd at least 6 times to define a “case”, yet no one has. Why is that?

I love how we can get into the weeds in terms of data on this. Yesterday, it was reported that Florida had 22 deaths. Today, 58. If my math is correct, that is a ~163% increase. Ironically, the positive cases declined to ~6,000 vs. 8,350 on Sunday when 29 people died.
My point is that we can cherry-pick statistics all day. 126,000 and counting is far more in less time than any flu in ANY year since 2010 according to the CDC.

In fact, it is almost double the highest reported year in ’17-’18.
Additionally, the first known case of flu was 1918, a pandemic. Over 600,000 in the US died from it over the course of about one year. One would argue that we live in a MUCH much different time! There has now been over 100 years of research and medical treatments for the flu.
If you go as far back as November, we have had 7 months of this new sickness.
Minimizing it through nuance is naive at best. But hey, don’t let my stats get in your way. I’m sure if you dig there are plenty to debunk mine. Aren’t statistics fun? Well, unless you’re one of the ~126,000, of course.

Now fearmongers understand that declining death numbers is no way to perpetuate fear porn, so a new—and somewhat meaningless—metric is tried: “cases” (whatever that is, since fearmongers won’t define what a “case” is.)
Please explain how in such a deadly pandemic “cases” can go up, but deaths go down…and how as “cases” rise, morbidity decreases…

Also, Deaths lag positive cases by anywhere from 2 – 6 weeks.
We don’t know what the fatality rate will truly look like from this latest spike. And others have stated, death is not the only outcome you want to avoid.

@unbelievable: those “cases” have been there for who knows how long, possibly many weeks.
As many as 80% of those cases are asymptomatic—they didn’t even know they have the virus in their system because they haven’t been sick.
How does a 2-week rolling average death count work with those?

I had a conversation today with a physician, a close personal friend down here who has been assigned to CV19 patients down here the last month (she is also an Army reserve officer, so she got put on active duty and assigned to one of the three Army hospitals for anyone who tests positive in this country (Dominican Republic.) She is the physician for a documentary film project I’m producing.
You know what SHE said? “Most of these people aren’t sick, but they put them in with sick patients, like they want them to get sick. Their status is “hospitalized” but they don’t need to be in a hospital. And we took them from homes, where other family members haven’t gotten sick either.”
She is beginning to see first hand some baloney and is beginning to question politicians’ motives. Funny, her dad was a famous Dominican politico who was AG for several years in the past, and a general in the military.

Cobraboy… it is a simple answer… and it is twofold. First, the age of the group most rapidly increasing is younger. And as they have fewer pre-existing conditions and generally better health and immune system, there are fewer people that die from the disease.
Secondly, now that we have stopped doing stupid things like drinking bleach and treating with deadly shots in the dark like hydroxycloriquine, and have discovered treatments that appear to be efficacious like dexamethasone and Remdesivir, we are better at treating the disease. And have substantially decreased the mortality rate.
I could add earlier detection and treatment…but that is even more obvious.
Honestly, you couldn’t figure that out?

This coronavirus has basically mutated into the Common Cold.
Highly-infectious and yet far less serious/deadly than when it first appeared on the scene.
All of these biblical plagues of 2020 are literally fabricated in order to make Trump lose the election. That’s the truth. Say what you want, believe what you want. I don’t care.

And regarding this swine flu. Since you guys never believed the scientists when they were telling us back in Dec. that ’19 was spreading, on national TV BTW, I can see why you wouldn’t believe the swine flu is real and could potentially mutate into a problem. That is why I sold my stocks and made a bundle and most of you didn’t. The Swine flu is real as well…but the good news is that it hasn’t mutated into a form readily transmittable to humans. But the scientists are monitoring it as there is a distinct possibility, and thank God for their efforts.
And if it eventually did become a pandemic, I’d guarantee the same people would deny its existence, clamoring for hydroxychloriquine, and try to drink bleach, that did when instructed by their fearless leader to do so because of ’19.

Mark, I respect your insight and research-based opinion.
I’m actually a holistic health expert and I managed a vitamin store for 10 years, helping people treat literally treat any and every condition on their own, through the use of targeted nutraceuticals and herbal medicines. I, myself, take a supplement regimen which prevents any virus’ ability to replicate in my system, so therefore I’m not personally worried about any virus. Google ‘Coconut oil covid 19’ for one example of the many things I take; it’s currently being used very successfully against Covid 19 by Dr’s and the govts of the phillipines and Indonesia…. Tbh, if we were living in the middle ages, I could be one of those thieves who would go around robbing plague homes bcuz they were taking a combination of herbs that basically made their body able to fight it off without even getting I’ll from the pathogen.
Anyway, I live my life very aware, knowledgeable, and empowered in many arenas; and I just want everyone else to be able to experience that way of living as well.
But yo, live scared if that’s how you choose to live… In that regard, if you seriously would just do yourself a favor and do some research on these few supplements, you will find very legit data supporting their efficacy against all viruses and all microbial threats… I will personally never take a pharmaceutical drug in my life. I would treat myself naturally, like I do anytime I’m dealing with an illness or medical situation.

Erik…I’ve been making my own milk Kefir for years.. haven’t had a cold since then and got rid of my skin condition…no more topical steriods and such. So I’m not against natural remedies. Just think we need to use the entire arsenal available to us.
Coconut oil? I’m mixed on the subject. And the rest you mentioned? Whatever… would talk to a MD first.
But I believe in modern medicine. When we didn’t have them and only used herbs and natural measures, that certainly didn’t stop the myriad of diseases that afflicted us and resulted in an average life span decades earlier. Modern medicine was involved in it. And Sulfa medications and penicillin saved millions of lives. Even hydroxychloriquine has its place. But not in treating Covid 19.

Covid has been around for about 8 months. Evan doctors who have been practicing for decades have seen more severe and fatal outcomes from this one pandemic than they have in an entire career of flus and colds. You can use all of the stats you want, but it is more harmful than any comparably contagious disease and way more contagious than any comparably harmful disease

I think that is a overreach, Cobra. Only those with Corona virus would test positive. And that is about 20% of all that have colds. Rhinovirus and such wouldn’t. I’ll admit that the test isn’t perfect. But also consider…the head of the CDC said that in reality we could have 10 times the number of cases currently reported as possible, when looking at blood donations, and other laboratory tests. So you could debate that the number if far higher than the number of cases currently being reported.

However, there is a chance a positive result means that you have antibodies from an infection with a virus from the same family of viruses (called coronaviruses), such as the one that causes the common cold.
And you STILL get counted as CV19 statistically.

And keep in mind healthcare providers are paid substantially more for a CV19 diagnosis.
In a low-margin business like healthcare, especially when providers have foregone elective surgeries and other therapies for three+ months, you don’t think there is an incentive for CV19 diagnoses?
If not, I suspect you don’t think there is any fraud in the healthcare system…especially in those eeeeeevil for-profit chains.

I did take it up with the CDC…you seem to make any excuse you can dream up to ignore all forms of science. Sad that you compare all scientific and medical professionals with conmen and used care salesmen. Most rather be doing those regular checkups and elective surgeries than risking their lives with exposure to Covid. I think this has been an economic catastrophe for many doctors. I’m not saying the medical service business model isn’t a problem,especially in America. But to think you are correct would require a world wide medical conspiracy, from Medical service providers, to University research, to research companies, to pharmaceutical development, manufacturing and distribution, to Religious organizations providing medical care, etc.. Man… that sounds pretty bizarre.

The CDC did say we could have 10 times the cases already reported. Most of those tested show symptoms in line with Covid19, not the symptoms of the common cold, or have contact with someone with covid 19, to be tested. Though Influenza symptoms would be more similar in symptoms to Covid19, Influenza wouldn’t test positive. And the common cold symptoms are different..they usually has congestion, but rarely has a fever, or a severe a cough. If we tested the entire population, you might have a point. But not under the current testing protocols, we shouldn’t pick up many residual common cold antibodies, or be testing people with the common cold. Maybe that is one good reason we don’t just test everyone without a better test to avoid as may false negatives and false positives as possible. I’m no Doctor, but as you are, am able to gather data, as are you.

No, the vast, vast majority of “new cases” i.e., just tested are asymptomatic, like 80%.
I just related how one alleged + test—he never saw the actual test result, just a phone call—turned into 21. And NOT ONE, in the past or present, has had ONE symptom.
And that drives the total morbidity rate down well below .02%…which is the range of the flu bug.

In addition, the CDC is reporting 126,000 CV19 deaths.
They also state that 7% were because of CV19. The other 93%? Something else, but they tested +.
So how many people died from CV19? 8800.
And WHY is this important? If you are a critical thinker—and my critical thinking skills are unmatched—since 80% of those who test + are asymptomatic, that means that most likely those who died WITH the virus were also asymptomatic, around 93,500 or so.

Cobra…how many times…fewer have died because the victims are tending to be younger and we have better treatments… dexamethasone and Remdesivir… No conspiracy there.
And why do we test those that are Asympotomatic people? Because they were exposed to people with the virus. If not, they normally aren’t tested. They don’t meet the testing criteria.
It really is pretty simple. Amazing you can’t get it.

If Covid caused the victim to be susceptible to the cascade of maladies that killed someone, Covid is the problem. You sound like the guy that would say, well, they would have died of those other illnesses anyway. Nothing to see here.
