Knee Surgery For JPP

June 26th, 2020

What crappy news this is.

The chatter on SiriusXM NFL Radio today was disturbing. Friend of Joe host Alex Marvez and former Bucs rockstar general manager Mark Dominik were mulling over news of Jason Pierre-Paul having knee surgery that will keep him out of action about a month.

TampaBay.com writer Rick Stroud explained that JPP had the surgery but “it’s something that [the Bucs and JPP] thought about but didn’t necessarily want him to do,” adding JPP “had a little discomfort” and that forced everyone’s hand.

Joe is disturbed for a one main reason. Back in 2018, JPP’s play fell off in the final quarter of the season because of knee issues. He was a monster last year, but he also missed six games to start the season.

Can JPP ride his knee through the 2020 season and the playoffs?

Joe will pray to the football gods tonight and soak up plenty of Bromosa.

    Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  2. Bradley Says:

At least he’s getting surgery before they stop surgeries in Florida. Who really cares, there won’t be football this month. He’s the player I worry least about not being ready or in shape.

  3. AwShbucs Says:

Its almost like we should do everything we possible can in effort to sign another pass rusher…

  4. El Buco Realisto Says:

On the positive side, maybe that can tie JPP and Gronk together and they will have two good legs then!!!!!!!!!! It will be like a three legged race!!!!!!!!!!!! The most interesting part will be who is in worse shape by the end of the preseason?????? No heart in it anymore Gronk or broke down JPP?????? Large questions loom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Imon Says:

He will have lots of time to recover until Sept. 2021 which will be the next NFL season game. Not trying to troll, just making a statement that you either agree with… or you should be analyzed for delusion. 🙁

  6. lambchop Says:

This is one guy I’m not worried about. He’ll be ready to prove the doubters wrong again. The end of 2018 was the year Mike Smith was fired in season, there were other things going on that can’t be attributed to just a knee issue.

  7. Dewey Selmon Says:

Wonder if covid-19 delayed the surgery? And if not why did he wait to have it or announce it?

  8. Lamarcus Says:

How we lose an entire defense ?

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Well, there is a silver lining……at least he won’t be driving for a while….(hopefully)

  10. Jean Lafitte Says:

He’s get out of camp this way. He seemed to do pretty good last season missing camp and the start of last season too, so maybe this is a non factor as long as he’s ready to start day one.

  11. DanBucsFan Says:

It sounds like a small “clean up” procedure, I have faith that he will be fine and ready to roll when the bullets start flying. The sky is not falling due to this, but the way things are going with the ‘ sickness ” this season being in doubt is starting to seem more and more of a real question.

  12. Tampabuscsbro Says:

This doesn’t sound as serious as Joe is alluding to. It seems like a much more minor cleanup procedure.

I’m not worried about this. You guys shouldn’t be either. Sounds like a cleanup procedure. Also the dude played with a fractured neck last year.

  13. Anonymous Says:

If jpp misses most of the preseason im good with that

  14. SteveK Says:

Hard worker, physical athletic freak, and mentally a tough dude.

Determined to overcome injury, and cites his father’s approach to overcoming blindness to how he believed and willed himself to come back after the firework accident.

Not worried here, and I believe this will just make JPP more hungry to play and prove he is a stud.

Dude is a professional. Can’t wait.

  15. Wesley Says:

And the Bucs seasonal curse begins.

  16. BigHog Says:

I expect JPP to be ready IN FULL FORCE…but will NE12 be ready to throw the ball down field …being a good Check Down Artist will not work for this offensive scheme! This team offensive weapons are built to go down field with both feet on the gas

  17. DRFEELGOOD Says:

He’s supposed to be ready for training camp. Just a mild arthroscopic procedure. he will be fine. If he came back mid year after neck surgery, this should be just a blip. Nothing more. GO BUCS!!

  18. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Don’t get me wrong, I love JPP. However, doesn’t it seem there is always something going on with him? Blows off part of his hand with fireworks, drives at 4am through a thunderstorm and runs his luxury ride into a wall and now this. At least this one was not his fault. However, why did he wait so long to have the procedure? I assume it was a nagging injury that wasn’t improving?

  19. Jmarkbuc Says:

JPP isn’t stupid. He always gets a full year salary.

  20. Leighroy Says:

1 month for a knee implies meniscus scope (aka cleanup as others have labeled it). Good for the short run, alleviates pain and returns some range of mobility. Bad in the long run, less cartilage in the knee generally speaking is like having less grease in the gears as they grind along.

  21. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Better to deal with it now than when the season starts. JPP has had worse injuries and has returned as if nothing happened.

  22. Tampabuscsbro Says:

He probably waited so long because hospitals are just now having elective surgeries again.

  23. Youngbucs Says:

BigHog Brady is and will be rdy anything else you wanna add

  24. Alanbucsfan Says:

What would a Bucs offseason be without drama?

  25. Don_RyJo(e) Says:

JPP is not one of us mere mortals. The man blow up his hand – walked it off. Broke his neck – walked it off (in a remarkably short time, mind you). My money is on JPP mocking us poor saps with his invincibility once again.

  26. Lokog Says:

Jpp is warrior. On the first day he came in he became the leader of the dline

  27. Joe Says:

What would a Bucs offseason be without drama?

    Pretty f’ing boring.

  28. DoooshLaRue Says:

Gee Joe, how come you don’t drown your sorrows in Abe’s delicious wings anymore?

  29. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“Back in 2018, JPP’s play fell off in the final quarter of the season because of knee issues.”

And yet he still had 12.5 sacks.

  30. kgh4life Says:

Reports say he should be ready for training camp, however, history has taught us that the Bucs are really bad at predicting when players will recover from injuries or surgeries.

  31. Allbuccedup Says:

Time to trade one of the tight ends and sign Matthews lack of depth is going to kill this team.

  32. Ship Thief Says:

    JPP is one bada$$ dude!

Love that he is a Buc!

Wishing the man a good clean recovery from what was hopefully a simple procedure!

  33. Tampabuscsbro Says:

I miss the days when Joe would drown his sorrows in Abes delicious wings.

Hooters wings are bottom tier tbh.

Also Joe you should try the Oats in a hose stout from Big storm. Also do you like their special release Belgians you can only get in the tap rooms?

  34. SB Says:

Well now is the time to do it.

  35. SOEbuc Says:

Not like we were not gonna draft a monster DT and edge in the first or second round in the two next years. It was a given. DE first round 2021 with instructor JPP.

    #FrontSevenMonsters

    GO BUCS!!!

  36. Allbuccedup Says:

JPP out for 2 to 3 months Shaq won’t sign franchise tag. 8-8 looks like a pipe dream.

  37. Allbuccedup Says:

BS or BA we will find out in September HAHAHA. No depth!

  38. fernando diaz Says:

guy came back from broken neck this is nothing

  39. adam from ny Says:

after surgery he said: “he’s gucci”

if he said he’s gucci then he must be gucci…

because he is the man !

  40. BucEmUp Says:

NOT WORRIED, BETTER THAN CRASHING HIS FERRARI AT 430 IN THE MORNING. Then again there is still time…

  41. unbelievable Says:

I’ll never count JPP out, but this definitely sucks.

Defense did not turn around until JPP came back. FACT.

And that was after Shaq had already had a couple crazy multi sack filled games. Speaking of Shaq… wasn’t he supposed to sign today?

How we gonna play defense without any starting DEs/OLBs?

  42. bucsfaninoregon Says:

Imon, quit trying to bring logic to this site. Everyone is “ooohhhing” over JPP’s minor surgery and how it will affect pre-season. What a joke!
Anybody reading the papers? 9,000 NEW cases in Florida yesterday. Zero today- -I don’t think so. As I write this, NPR (gasp) reports 23 members of Clemson’s FB team are positive. What pre-season?
I’m waiting for one of the Joe’s to have the nerve to start a thread discussing the potential affect of the virus on the 2020 NFL season. Waiting but not expecting.
