“A Bisi Johnson-Type Guy”

Former NFL and University of Minnesota receiver Ron Johnson II knows a lot about Bucs rookie Tyler Johnson, Tampa Bay’s 2020 fifth-round pick.
They played for the same college and the elder Johnson, no relation, works in broadcasting for the Vikings and keeps a close eye on his old team.
Joe listened to Ron Johnson evaluate the Bucs’ rookie and he compared him to Vikings second-year receiver “Bisi” Johnson.
That’s not exactly calling a guy the steal of the draft, like many Bucs fans think Tyler Johnson will be. But serious fantasy football players know that “Bisi” Johnson name; he caught 31 balls last year and three touchdowns as a rookie seventh-round pick.
Speed appears to be the biggest question mark for the Bucs’ rookie, and the reason 20 receivers were drafted ahead of him.
It won’t take long for the Bucs to figure out whether he really has enough NFL-caliber speed. If he does, the Bucs probably scored big for a fifth-round pick.
Before the draft, Ron Johnson told the Vikings’ official website that he was aware of Vikings scouts liking Tyler Johnson and he speculated Minnesota might make a move on him in Round 3 or Round 4 of the Draft, with a mind toward him being good enough to be a No. 4 receiver initially and a No. 2 eventually.

Joe Vicious wasn’t a speed guy but he knew how to get open and run routes effectively…..as long as this guy can do so I don’t why he wouldn’t be productive for the Bucs

I am hopeful for tyler johnson, but in reality, I think he may be a slower poor mans version of Godwin. Kind of an insurance policy in case they can’t match Godwin’s price next season.
I am sure he is a good catcher of passes, with outstanding fight and body position for the ball, but if he can’t play fast enough, he will likely only be a solid 4th wr, like a frank murphy type. Who isn’t a bad for a 5th round pick.

jurevicious was built like Mike evans but not as fast. pretty big difference between him and tyler johnson. 3″ and 25#.

Unofficially ive seen him as low as a 4.42, the tape doesnt lie though, he was the best player on the field in the Bowl game vs Auburn where Arians was in attendance.

Dude is a 5th round pick. Let’s see him make the team first before proclaiming him the steal of the draft. Will Johnson even have the opportunity to make that impact year 1? I say no. Keep in mind this staff is high on Scotty Miller. If dude is slow, what impact will he make besides special teams?

The one advantage is he will be covered by the #3 or 4 CB. He might be able to show his talent against those DB’s. And no team can put a #1 or #2 on Johnson with the weapons we have.

TJ started for 3 years and played a lot as a freshman at Minnesota in the Big Ten. If any rookie is going to have an advantage of coming in and challenging for playing time, its someone like TJ who is already a proficient route runner. I expect TJ to be the third wideout playing by the middle of the year!

@BucsAnthem: true, a speedster. But after recovering from that hammy, some plays designed for him looked like a guy with great potential. He did a yeoman’s job after Evans and Godwin went down. His film was outstanding, considering he’s a rook who tweaked a hammy.
@Sarasota Gary: Bucs have two of those. The #3 & 4 WR’s are role players, guys who are schemed for, and one with blazing speed is a welcome commodity.

I dislocated a rib (at my sternum) years ago because I was dirt biking without body armor. Took a long time, without proper medical attention, to be able to move around normally. About 10 years later, that b!tch popped back into socket while I was working out. Ouch!

Tyler Johnson dominated in this years (Jan 2020) Outback bowl, catching 12 targets, 204 yards and 2 touchdowns against a very good Auburn defense. Johnson frequently played against Noah Igbinoghene, the Dolphins’ second #1 pick in this year’s draft. Igbinoghene was a speedster with both of his parents being Olympic track athletes. No way Johnson could be too slow to destroy Igbinoghene. Johnson looks to be a steal.
