Jamal Adams’ Crazy Demands
June 21st, 2020Who wouldn’t want Jamal Adams playing safety for them?
Joe is as smitten as the next Bucs fan at the thought of the Pro Bowl safety playing for the Bucs. But then Joe has to wake up to the real world.
Adams has demanded a trade from the Jets. And on Friday, he told BSPN he would love to play for the Bucs and his old Jets coach, current Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles.
If you don’t factor in rookie safety Antoine Winfield (who Joe is very high on), safety is easily the weakest position on the otherwise promising Bucs defense.
One reason Adams is demanding a trade is he wants a raise. A very big raise.
After Joe read this missive from BSPN’s Jeremy Fowler, who detailed Adams’ demands, the cold slap of reality set in for Joe.
Jamal Adams’ future contract demands loom large in trade talks. If he wants pay among top defensive players – which one source whose team has looked into Adams believes – that’s well above $20M per year, while safety market is below $15M. Tough for a SS, no matter how good.

How crazy are Adams’ demands? Well, former NFL agent Joel Corry took to Twitter to explain how irrational Adams’ salary goals are.
No team has any incentive to pay Jamal Adams $17.5M per year right now. Top CBs historically make more than top safeties. Darius Slay is currently the highest paid CB at $16,683,333 per year. There’s never been a $15M per year safety. https://t.co/ukKOxh3OPF

And this isn’t even factoring in how the Bucs could squeeze Adams under the salary cap. The Bucs have little room as it is.
The only way Joe could see the Bucs getting Adams might be to backload his contract at least one year and beginning next season start shaving salaries. Joe loves Lavonte David but at 31 (come January) how much longer can we expect him to play at a high level? David’s contract, per Spotrac.com, runs out after the 2020 season.
Already last summer Bucco Bruce Arians held David out of practices inside the Glazer Shed because David’s knees are getting too gimpy to practice on turf.
Joe doubts Ndamukong Suh comes back next year and Jason Pierre-Paul isn’t a spring chicken either.
Yes, the Bucs could spare a tight end. Cam Brate is expensive and O.J. Howard is in the final year of his four-year contract. Do the Bucs keep Howard for a fifth year? Hewould be owed some $6 million. And we do not know if Rob Gronkowski can physically handle his return to the NFL.
The Bucs might, with some magic, be able to afford Adams, but not without waving goodbye to very good players including possibly one Bucs icon. That is, of course, if the salary cap isn’t lowered, as is currently forecast for 2021.

Not a chance at those numbers

Now I think about it? A cancelled season is going to be rough on the young secondary. Throw Adams in the captain of Bowels secondary. Scooping All Pro safety is a sure grab (unless he pulls a Justin Evans or Kendall Beckwith). Sucks guys were good players.

David is a player that you don’t realize what he is until he is missing.
Bucs need to lock him up with a nice 5 year contract so that he can retire as a Buccaneer. Go Bucs!

If he really wants to be a part of us, he’ll realize! Come down bro or no!!!
I’d love to have him but its not happening. I mean we can cut some slack in certain spots, something I’d be for if we hadnt spent our 2nd on Winfield…but he’s gonna ball….just wait for it.

If the team does something like this before getting Godwin and Barrett long term contracts, then they deserve whatever locker room discontent comes down on them. It’s silly to even contemplate.

guy can potentialy ruin the whole vibe in the locker room…
and steer a boatload of young secondary player wrong if he has egotistical issues and crap in his head…
it seems he possibly has “crap in his head”…
a friend once went to the doctor for a check up…doctor said:
“young fella, you are fine and healthy…but you have crap in your head”
he might have the same issue

the main concern of the bucs is that brady stays healthy, is covid free, and is making high quality poops
🙂
June 21st, 2020 at 7:34 am
Pass. We don’t need these kind of guys on the team.
June 21st, 2020 at 7:51 am
We could get 3 or 4 needed additions for that kind of money……no way Adams becomes a Buc…..
June 21st, 2020 at 7:58 am
Forget the extension, how do the Bucs even afford his 9.86 mil salary this year alone without restructuring a new deal? Currently 4.8mil cap space (per Overthecap) and the rookies aren’t signed yet.

Joe, we can’t afford America’s safety Jamal Adams, get it out of your head already. We’ve drafted more DB’s the last few drafts then any other team, time to shine. These kids have talent, Winfield was the 45th pick in the draft, he’s our FS live with it. Adams is a pipe dream. Dudes insane if he thinks he’s worth 20 mil a season as a safety. Let’s stop talking about what will never happen.
June 21st, 2020 at 8:43 am
Here’s reality….and how we still might be able to get him. Adams has a contract, whether he likes it or not, he’s ultimately got two options…..play for the contract or sit out and lose a credited season. Common sense says he plays…..so if he’ll play for his contract, then where he does it may not be as important if it gives him freedom for his next. The Jets can play a game of “tag” with him, I think that’s his fear, so maybe we offer him freedom after this year if we cant work something out? He’ll have a real shot at a SB, he’ll be in a system and with a coach that will build his value for free agency and he’ll get paid his worth next year with no risk of a “tag”…..That could happen but the question is at what costs? A 2nd….3rd….Brate plus a pick? What’s he worth for a one year SB push?

1 year rental and he can be traded or walk
June 21st, 2020 at 10:55 am
Bucs have 4.5 million in cap space. This talk of Adams coming to the Bucs is a waste of time. Adams is not worth the kind of money he seeks with his whopping 2 career INTs and career low in tackles in 2019. His agent is giving him bad guidance.

Defense Rules loves to keep our heads on straight about salary cap balance.
And not just offense and defense but the ratio of first contract guys to 2nd contract guys at much larger salaries.
At the moment we are in great shape. But we need Winfield to come through so we can pay rookie contract money there…not 15+ million!!!
Tough calls are coming up with Suh and JPP…two players we all want to keep as long as possible or as long as they continue to play at their current level.
But at some point we’re going to need to replace theirs salaries with a stud DL who is on a rookie contract. I like out balance right now..Linebacker is the best example…star LVD ready for more money…a couple more years on second year player White.
June 21st, 2020 at 11:16 am
No way man.
1-We don’t have the money for this.
2-We would also have to give up a 1st round pick, and maybe more!
No way!
June 21st, 2020 at 11:32 am
No, no, no, hell no. Safeties are not worth 15 million per year, despite idiot teams like Chicago paying Eddie Jackson (?!?) that kind of money. Not every position is worth 20+ million per year and especially not kicker, punter, or safety. Teams will most likely be very risk averse this year due to the sickness and the significant amount of fans not willing to watch football if player protests start up in large amounts during the anthem.
It’s going to be a weird season, but I think that there is almost no way that there won’t be one. Too much $ involved and the country needs the distraction, so unless the players are protesting between plays, I think that most fans will be watching come January.

Gotta say no/pass on this “opportunity”. It’s a stark reminder that Dirtstar Dominik paid Revis nearly what the top corner makes now…7 years ago! Coming off IR/tornACL. While coughing up a first rounder. Dom & Dumber Inc.

“What in tarnation?” That doctor might be able to fix what’s wrong in Seattle!

Don’t do it!!
June 21st, 2020 at 6:56 pm
This totally looks like a bucs move. Give up draft capital? ✔️ Overpay at a non-premium position?✔️ 😂😂😂 This is totally going to happen. Unless they give up a third and let him walk in FA next year I don’t see how this can be good move for the team. It makes the non Derwin James pick look even worse.
June 22nd, 2020 at 8:23 am
No, please, no. Would I like to have him, absolutely, YES. I just don’t think He is worth that much. Safeties to me should not cost that much and we need the money if we are going to try and sign Godwin to an extension, which I also don’t think will happen.
