Report: Jamal Adams Wants Big Raise
June 20th, 2020Man, how times have changed.
Not that long ago, coming to Tampa Bay to play football meant you are at the end of your rope careerwise in the NFL. Anthony Collins, Swaggy Baker, Da’Quan Bowers and T.J. Ward came to town to various degrees of fanfare and started. But they never played another snap in the NFL after the Bucs washed their hands of them.
Now, star players actually want to come here. Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Ndamukong Suh all could have easily played elsewhere if they wanted to. All chose Tampa Bay.
Add Jamal Adams to the list, sort of. The Pro Bowl safety of the Jets wants out of Gotham and is demanding a trade. Yesterday on BSPN, he added the Bucs to his wish list.
Adams enjoyed playing for Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles when Bowles ran the Jets. Joe wrote about this many times after chatting with Adams at the Pro Bowl in January 2019.
Proud Jets fan and a friend of Joe’s, FOX Sports personality Jason McIntyre, is angry that Adams wants out of New York. Taking to Twitter to vent, McIntyre had an interesting line after he learned Adams included Tampa Bay as a desired career resettlement.
The entitlement of Adams is hilarious. You’ve been in the NFL for 5 mins and you DEMAND a trade to one of the best teams. ✌🏽 https://t.co/ccD42zrRAg

Did you read that? “One of the best teams.” McIntyre actually wrote that about the Bucs. No, really he did.
Man, how quickly the perception of a team can change when you land one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, even though he is a mere seven years away from AARP membership eligibility.
Adams, it is believed, wants cornerback-type of bread. Joe doesn’t know if he will get that and with salary caps expected to drop next year, Joe has no clue how the Bucs would be able to afford Adams without shaving some big salaries.
But hey, six months ago, if you would have told Joe that Brady and Gronkowski would both be on the Bucs roster, Joe would have asked the bartender to serve whatever you were drinking.

*Joe would have asked the bartender to serve him whatever you were drinking.*
Sounds tasty, I think I’ll have one too!
Why not?

No more Jamal Adams Joe. Not gonna happen at all but we literally had no offseason so I understand.
June 20th, 2020 at 1:20 am
So that’ll be two Covid Crashers on the rocks? Coming up sir.
June 20th, 2020 at 1:24 am
Bucs can make it happen, if they really wanted to.
June 20th, 2020 at 2:52 am
Pryda is right teams can almost do anything they want whenever there are so many ways to make cap space if they want they can make it happen
June 20th, 2020 at 4:43 am
Not going to happen, still need to sign rookies and get a veteran RB.
June 20th, 2020 at 6:28 am
Great things are bound to happen when you say goodbye to pro-ready, pro bowl alternate, Mr. Pick 6……Jaymiss Winsnone!
June 20th, 2020 at 7:48 am
We don’t need a veteran RB I would love to have Adams to go with our young defensive backs. Trade Brates, J. Evans and a 3rd rounder

We don’t need a veteran RB I would love to have Adams to go with our young defensive backs. Trade Brates, J. Evans and a 3rd rounder. That would make us the best defense in the NFL
June 20th, 2020 at 7:50 am
Great player, but me personally I’d almost never pay big money for a safety.
June 20th, 2020 at 8:19 am
AW JR could be as good or better than Adams.
June 20th, 2020 at 8:39 am
No to the prima Donna. And I don’t believe the Bucs will risk the locker room chemistry for a whiner who thinks he’s worth more than he is.
June 20th, 2020 at 8:48 am
When will it stop? It seems these players hold teams hostage to meet their demands. Sort of like what’s going on out on the streets. I’m so thankful to be in this country away from the almost destitute life I would have endured it Haiti.
God Bless the USA!
Go Bucs!
June 20th, 2020 at 8:53 am
By the way Joe, wasn’t Da’Quan Bowers drafted by the Bucs? He turned out to be a bust but the list is long for those type players.
June 20th, 2020 at 9:08 am
Love to have him. However, not enough salary cap space. Plus they are going to want draft picks. We need those picks for a future QB and an aging defensive line.
June 20th, 2020 at 9:14 am
If we didn’t have so much invested in the D line, might be a possibility. But we made our choices where we wanted to invest substantially. And we can’t afford it all. Still, would like to see us bring in some depth by trading Brate, who I highly respect but is a luxury within the current structure, and use that money either to bring in another RB and/or strengthen the back up positions on the O line/D line.
June 20th, 2020 at 9:15 am
Oh Jean…are you trying to traumatize us this morning? Bowers? Yikes.
June 20th, 2020 at 10:35 am
Take a close look at Christian Mcafferty’s contract he averages 16 mil a year yet there are only 2 years the team has a cap hit of 16 mil. The rest it’s 12 mil. I don’t believe we have financial people that know what the he’ll they are doing.
June 20th, 2020 at 10:44 am
Using Carolinas Mcafferty’s contract you could sign both Adams and Godwin with two 7.5 cap hits in 2020 and still pay them 16 mil. The Bucs have 5.1 in cap space now. Trade Brate and Gholston that’s 9 mil release Justin Evans 1.1 mil. That adds up to 15.2 mil minus 7.5 minus 7.5 that leaves .2 . It can be done with a little creative planning.🤔

I think Joe is dreaming of a “Jamaal Island”…… harkening back to the glory days of our big bust Darrelle “Rehab” Revis.
June 20th, 2020 at 10:57 am
We don’t need a vet RB. Winning teams have vet defense for depth. We have very young players, very good young players, and vets at the end of their careers. That’s hard to make trade offer to a team that doesn’t even want to trade him.
June 20th, 2020 at 11:19 am
Work on the rest of the team and let Adams see if he gets CB money elsewhere.
June 20th, 2020 at 12:24 pm
I confess I’m an optimist and this is as much a hope as solid belief but we have to at least recognize the “possibility” that Winfield will have us going Jamal who?
June 20th, 2020 at 1:11 pm
This guy is not even close to being good enough to demand corner money. Ed Reed and Lott in their prime could have maybe asked for that type of $, but not this delusional dude. Pass.
June 20th, 2020 at 1:47 pm
At this stage it is best for the Bucs to look at feasible solution, it that is a area that we feel we need to address then if you are willing to offer 1st round pick and something on top maybe a Justin Evans, or Brate then go after Derwin James as his contract cost would be better and would fill that position nicely. Then still have money to look for a Clay Matthews and take a flier on a Josh Gordon and shore up some of our other positions. When you are willing to give up 1st rd picks, this is the time you shop for what you want and can afford to keep.

JOE
Why would salary caps drop next yr?
I mean they have been increasing every year and the dollar has shrunk more in the last 6 months than ever!
June 20th, 2020 at 4:38 pm
Revenues are expected to drop this year, some estimates have been by 30+ percent. Salary cap is based on revenue.
June 21st, 2020 at 9:17 am
The Bucs don’t need him. Especially what he’s asking.
