DeSean Jackson Talks Jameis; Byron Leftwich Passes

Tampa Bay offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich didn’t want to talk today about America’s backup, Jameis Winston.
Joe gave Leftwich a clear opportunity to say a few glowing parting words about his 2019 quarterback project, but Leftwich spiked the ball and called a new play.
JoeBucsFan.com: Coach, after spending a whole year putting everything you had into developing a young QB like Jameis Winston, how did you feel when you learned he was leaving the team?
Byron Leftwich: The key is that my job is to put everything I have into all these players, to give them everything I have to put them in the best position to be successful. And that’s me giving everything. Not just me, that’s the coaching staff. We’re here to serve these guys, to put these guys in the best position possible so they can have as much success as possible. So that’s our job regardless of who it is. As coaches, our job is here to teach.
One man who did want to talk about Jameis this week is former Buccaneers malcontent receiver DeSean Jackson, who helped drag the Bucs to consecutive 5-11 seasons during his well-paid time in Tampa.
Jackson hit the national airwaves on FS1 and said thinks backing up Drew Brees is a good spot for Jameis, adding that Jameis is awesome at talking the talk but not walking the walk.
“Jameis, man, that dude has a lot of upside, man, And when I say upside, playing with him in Tampa, I feel like he has all the intangibles to be a big-time quarterback in the league. I think just a lot of times last year he was careless with the ball and didn’t really manage the ball as much as he needed to be being a top-tier quarterback in the league,” Jackson said.
“… I think a lot of times if you’re talking the talk and not walking the walk, you know, a lot of guys are not going to follow behind. I’m not saying that’s necessarily him, but you know more on the talk the talk, you just gotta back it up on the field. … I definitely think he’s a starting quarterback in the NFL.”
Yes, the Jameis era is over. And in comes the master at walking-the-walk, Tom Brady. And he’ll talk-the-talk around his teammates, too.
Joe is no fan of all this savior leadership chatter, but it is interesting to hear Jackson strongly imply that some Bucs weren’t interested in following Jameis into battle.
If that’s accurate, then the Bucs should be better this season than many expect.

Desean makes a good point. How do you hold people to standards if you piss away games and have a tendency for cracking under pressure in big time moments.
I don’t like savior talk either (even though joe went on and on about devin white was the proclaimed savior of the defense just to prove a point) but just having a guy the team will be willing to follow into battle means a lot.

Jameis Winston will come back to haunt the Bucs. Good QB;s always do. And when he does, many of you are going to go mute. I’ve said it here a millions times. It was a mistake to go all in and hire a 43 yr old QB with no upside to run the team for 2 yrs at an astronomical price tag. You are telling the fans he is going to take you to the promised land quaranteed. I’m not feeling it. But I’ve been a fan before many of you here were born. Seen it all from our Bucs. I cannot wait for Gabbert to take over this offense. Ohhh Boy.

Buc realist – Desean Jackson was a malcontent. Joe has real knowledge on the situation and how bad Desean was. He will not release the information he has until all parties have moved on from the Bucs. If you don’t believe me just ask him.

Just eliminating half of 30 interceptions makes us a better team. The Patriots put a huge emphasis on ball protection something Jameis never did.

When you lose the TO battle, it’s 80% of the time a team Loss in result. We’ve been losing TO battles for 5 years with JW. You’ll never win when you’re consistently that bad at protecting the football.
I get it. If he learns to manage football games better he can be great. But we’ve been saying this for 5 years now.

Jameis came out and got defensive over the Uber accusations and lied to the entire organization. Guess jameis failed to realize how good the investigators at the NFL are and what their technology is like. They aren’t the tallahassee police department.

Close to the bottom pay of QBs but he will come back. RIGHT
He couldn’t find a staring job he couldn’t get a multi year contract and his one year contract is peanuts BUT HE is great

What was reported, was one side of the story!!!!!!! And while it was bad, according to “the word on the street” it was not what started nor finished the argument between the two!!!!!!!! And as I and you and also Joe was not there and heard directly, all any of us can say is what was told to us!!!!!!!!!!! But do not think for one second that jay-miss was “ambushed” and was the bigger man and just walked away!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just know that the jay-miss camp is excellent at leaks, and getting their version of a story out on many occasions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Said this many times…..all these guys have egos and when guys like Jackson who’ve had a long productive career have to listen to a guy like Winston, it gets old. The vets that hang around the league know to knock make too much noise when it comes to a young QB, I think that was the case in the locker room. People knew the investment in Winston, knew his value if he could get on track….you don’t want to create a me vs him scenario because a starting QB will generally win that battle but Winston was a poser from a leadership perspective. When it came time to hold up his end of the bargain, even in a contract year with all the weapons we had, he throws 30 INTs and ends our season with a pick 6. That’s why he’s a back up now. He’ll be back but I think he’s Fitzpatrick 2.0…..lots of flash, obvious talent but simply cant avoid turnovers.

I stand with no one knows what the future holds with Jamies or this upcoming season . Jamies has had a lot of good games in his career so no one can garoteain him to be a failure . Because he has shown he can play in this league . The problem is that Brady have never played on a team with a defense that gives up a lot of points . Brady has never been on a team that can’t run the ball . Brady has been on teams that won without him being on the field . The Patriots are 14 and 6 without Brady . So it is a possibility that this might fail . And it is not strong possibility that Jamies could come back to hunt us . He didn’t go to a trash team . He went to a wining team and a good coach . And remember this we have never develop a quarterback in the history of the franchise that should count for something .

Winston can’t compare to a broke down Brady Much less the version of 2019. Miss me with all the star comparisons if you won’t talk about the interceptions and win loss records. There’s a reason Winston has to sit behind a quarterback this year and has nothing to do with arm talent. I wouldn’t want to tak about him either, that would be a waste of time.

Here’s a difference between Wentz and Jameis in terms of leadership, walking the walk, etc.
Wentz entered the league and had veterans like Foles and McCown show him how to be a pro and lead. Thing is neither were trying to take Wentz’s spot. They were content with their roles.
Move onto Jameis and that’s different. He had Glennon who was a young QB trying to find his way as well. Then he had Fitz who wanted his spot. Who taught Jameis how to prepare? How to lead? That’s important n the development of a young QB. Honestly, a lot of the young core players had to figure it out on their own. Look at the secondary. Who’s the veteran(who’s content with his role) to show these kids how to prepare and watch film? I hope the next QB after Brady has that veteran to lean on to learn the ropes of being a QB

Leaders lead! Starts when you are young with work ethic and commitment. After that it is about being consistently great at what you do. Finally you are to the point where you are leading teams and corporations. Winston would struggle to get a Boy Scout troop their physical fitness badge.

Doug was a great QB who’s chance came too long ago in a different day and had it came today, he probably would have been more successful.
His winning a Super bowl earns my respect.
Dilfer was a beneficiary of a ultra talented defense with the Ravens and
Young was taught by the times BEST QB in Joe Montana.
All three of those QB although they all had some UGLY games, could throw and complete the ball. Jameis played a lot like Doug. Had a cannon arm but accuracy was a bit shaky. My personal favorite was Craig Erickson. He moved that ball.

Yes the Bucs went all in on a 43 year old QB but so what. Experience is so important in the NFL. Build the D and let Brady manage the offense like Brad Johnson did without a lot on int’s and we will be just fine.

@cainishere.. Ha, yes i loved Erricson! We traded him for a 1st round pick because dilfer fell to us. I thought he couldrun sam’s offense to the playoffs. Right about Steve young too, probably wouldn’t have been great if he stayed and didn’t sit behind Joe. Vinny and Jameis, the two #1’s that were good at times but never stars. I bet #3 follows vinny and has a long career with a few flashes.

Winston has attempted 2,543 career passes. Rodgers has attempted 6,061.
In 2019, Winston threw an NFL-high 30 interceptions. Over the last five seasons,since Winston joined the NFL in 2015, Rodgers has thrown 27 total interceptions. Winston’s 30 interceptions represent over a third of Rodgers’ career total.
Rodgers has four fewer career Interceptions than Winston while being a starter for 10 years longer, Just some HOF comparison stats for all the Winston lovers.
