Quarantine A QB
June 10th, 2020Ryan Griffin, you just may be sealed in a Ziploc bag and put on ice.
This isn’t a knock on Griffin at all, but a compliment. With The Sickness still lurking and some with reasonable fears there may be a second wave, what would the Bucs do if it hit One Buc Palace and ran through the locker room?
Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians, appearing on Chris Long’s Green Light podcast, admitted he’s been thinking about this. So Arians might have his No. 3 quarterback stay away from One Buc Palace to keep sterile.
(OK Beavis and Butthead, have at it.)
“Yeah, that’s one of the things I’ve been pondering the last two or three weeks,” Arians said. “From what I’m understanding is if you test positive, you get quarantined for two weeks.”
It sounds like Arians hasn’t been fully briefed on what the NFL allows or doesn’t allow, or if these new protocols are fully up for interpretation. Either that, or the NFL has been unclear with teams.
“There is so much to learn and still explore with this thing,” Arians admitted. “But I’ve thought about keeping the third quarterback on the roster out of the room. We have two guys that have been in our system (Blaine Gabbert and Ryan Griffin), really sharp. So, I might have to quarantine a quarterback just in case of a quarantine.”
Notice Arians didn’t cite who his third quarterback is? We assume it is Griffin, but Arians specifically mentioned both Blaine Gabbert and Griffin.
God help this team if park-violating, home-invading Bucs quarterback Tom Brady catches this thing.
June 10th, 2020 at 2:47 pm
Joe that’s true of most teams if the starter gets sick and misses time his backup won’t be as good. God help most of the teams in the NFL.

go as normal…or as normal as can be…
with…
the opp for free agents and undrafted rooks to jump in the mix as needed…

Doesn’t seem like you can get it again or be contagious a second time.
Has anyone thought about getting infected and then getting the two week quarantine out of the way now? Is that crazy? Is it too risky for healthy football players with no underlying symptoms?
June 10th, 2020 at 3:31 pm
If a player gets sick, the chances of him dying are 0.000005%. Every single player could get sick and 90% would have zero symptoms and the rest would have something akin to the flu. Fact.
The China Flu is a scam. The only ones in danger are the elderly, and those with a lot of pre-existing conditions. Also, those in nursing homes. I’m pretty sure that excludes all NFL players.

SMDH!!!!
June 10th, 2020 at 3:39 pm
Bill so what you are telling me if Tom Brady gets this thing we should let him go rest up in a nursing home. I think that’s what you are saying. Not a bad plan. Goodell should tell all the teams to do that as a matter of fact. That’s what good leaders do.
June 10th, 2020 at 4:06 pm
I agree. Less than 20 people under the age of 30 have died from this virus. For crying out loud, can we just let people use common sense and go about our lives? This is NOT the plague. Yes it’s contagious. Yes it’s dangerous for those with compromised immunity and the elderly but so is the flu and the flue DOES kill young people. I’m 66 years old. I’m able to take precautions to protect myself.

Got it a$$-backwards…..Quarantine Brady & bring him out on game day……

I feel like he has pretty much been vindicated at this point
and WAS a pretty good QB.
Interesting thought

The fact is if a single player gets it – while they may be just fine riding out the virus (cause they are in pretty good shape) – what about their families and friends, what about the training staff and their families. . . it can go wrong in a very bad way – course Im sure ur a scientist and have analyzed this for a number of years. . . by all means, please share some more facts with us

Watch all 3 of our QB get sick and we have to use a 7th round pick to trade for Jameis Winston. Everyone’s head explodes and 1 Joe has an earth shaking orgasm.
June 10th, 2020 at 5:05 pm
You could then trade for Jameis Winston

Ed..we don’t know how long the immunity lasts if you contract the virus. And BTW…it just might kill you. Or your parent, or your child. So better to not go to that “lets just infect” card.
June 10th, 2020 at 5:39 pm
Go and find the QB stats for last pre-season. There Ryan Griffin was far and away the top QB.
I think he will be solid, mostly, if he gets a chance. Should have had five or six last season, but Jameis would rather have played hurt and hurt his team, than let Griffin play.
Maybe it was a fear of him. Griffin has always been our best long ball thrower. I hope Arians can remember all that and give Griffin a chance. He would blow Gabbert out of the water.

“I agree. Less than 20 people under the age of 30 have died from this virus. For crying out loud, can we just let people use common sense and go about our lives?”
So Bobby you get to grab the trophy today for the most ignorant and dangerous post. WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR NUMBERS?
As of right now 112,000+ have DIED. 20 People represent less than 1 thousandth of that.
So first of all let’s see your numbers. Secondly your cool with over 112,000 deaths in four months with no stop on the horizon. You’re pretty much a ghoul eh Bobby?
June 10th, 2020 at 5:51 pm
Griffin is nothing more than a 3rd string NFL QB. He’s small and has an avwerage arm, at best.
June 10th, 2020 at 5:55 pm
Sign Kap? Did anybody see him throw a few months ago in that workout for NFL teams? He’s side slinging it from his hip. His shoulder is shot.
As for quarantining a QB, once we bring back sports as soon as someone tests positive the whole thing will get shut down again anyway. So what’s the point.
June 10th, 2020 at 6:55 pm
Who didn’t think a player would be quarantined for two weeks if tested positive. And if a half dozen players catch it from them before they quarantined? Like an O line, a D line or CB’s? Anything could happen this year.
June 10th, 2020 at 7:01 pm
BucNole. One thing you mentioned that I would diverge from your statement. Heavy, overweight people are very susceptible to this disease. Not as bad as pre-existing heart, diabetes, or age, but significant. Sounds like some O lineman and some D linemen, doesn’t it?
Even blood type may be significant, as we have seen in recent news from multiple sources. And immunity if you once had it? No one really knows how long they will last.
June 10th, 2020 at 8:24 pm
Great points St. Pete and Mark2001-We are still learning about how best to fight this thing but we know Virtue signaling false information that stay at home order and mask wearing was and is unnecessary is not helpful and will cost lives. Listening to JBF podcast where they believe players may only follow NFL protocols the 1st day and then just ignore them, this is disheartening. If that’s the case there will be no full season due to team outbreaks. I’ve already seen players out in stores not wearing mask. My hope is players will educate themselves on the seriousness of this and follow the NFL protocols and stay safe.
June 10th, 2020 at 8:47 pm
I wonder if some roster or cap dispensation might be in order as well. What do you do if you lose four offensive linemen? Or all your QB’s? For two weeks. These guys play right next to each other or in the same meetings. That kind of thing could happen. I’m pretty sure the league has thought of this, but there would have to be a way to add some guys due to covid without exceeding the cap or having to cut guys just to be able to have a roster to staff every position from one week to the next.
June 10th, 2020 at 8:58 pm
So you run through your practice squad guys, putting guys on reserve and such, so you sign a guy off another practice squad to start. Then our starting guy comes off reserve, and that guy gets bumped. And they have only been a starter for one or two games, and there are rules on all that. It should be very interesting. The league and the Players association will be burning the midnight oil.
June 10th, 2020 at 9:18 pm
Mark- Like a exclusive rights reserve squad that get a minimum pay outside the cap only to be used if a team has x amount of players in a position test positive. If they get activated they earn an xtra amount per game.
June 10th, 2020 at 9:40 pm
During the Buccaneers strike shortened season where they almost went to the Super Bowl, the NFL used replacement players. I was pretty young but I seem to remember the NFL allowing teams to use replacement players. I am assuming that teams would be allowed an extra player for each position based on that scenario that players will become sick. That would be 33 players in addition to your starters. That is real insurance if you ask me. The NFL will lead the sports world through this thing and show how to keep on keepin’ on!
June 10th, 2020 at 9:42 pm
LMAO. You guys are gonna think Winston looked pretty good as a backup when Gabbert steps in.

What are you talking about? Griffin is taller than Brady and Gabbert. ..smh

Put Blaine Gabbert in the ziplock. Man gets a paper cut and he’ll be our for the year.
June 10th, 2020 at 10:52 pm
Gabbert, Brady, Griffin are all 6.4 to 6.5 tall.
June 10th, 2020 at 10:53 pm
If the starting quarterback gets it chances are the entire quarterback room has it so every team is screwed if the starter goes down, how is that different from any other year? Very few teams has a nick foles on the roster to have a few Magical games in the playoffs.
If it’s going to happen let it happen at the beginning of the season because it’s much easier to recover and make a run I hope, uncharted territory and we’ll see who has the best pandemic preparedness plan

That has been disproven. In fact, I personally know two people who got it twice, and both died the second time. And I have friend who mother is in icu after getting it a second time.

Griffin 30 years old and has thrown 4 passes in his entire career. Why is he in the nfl?
June 11th, 2020 at 8:27 am
Good ideas to help deal with this issue from a roster standpoint. We will see what the league adopts.
I’ve heard somewhere that Griffins issue is his arm. It just isn’t good enough. And if that is true, after all this time, it likely just is what it is. And will keep him a serviceable backup.
Bonzai…name link…great idea. So many things we don’t know. Even those of us lucky enough to have O blood types, if the current flavor of the week studies are true, have only about a 10 to 20% benefit…and doesn’t help most of our loved ones. Prevention, testing, treatment to mitigate, and vaccine, that is the answer. And many can’t even figure out the importance of step one. And that is why hospitals in some places are filling rapidly to capacity.
