“Whoa, Slow Down Dude”

May 8th, 2020

Already impressing

Bucco Bruce Arians had revealing words about his new and formerly broken down tight end Rob Gronkowski.

Mental and physical wear were major factors in Gronkowski retiring after the 2018 season, but Arians told The Pat McAfee Show yesterday that Gronk is showing zero signs of being the same worn out player that retired from the Patriots.

In fact, Arians said Gronk appears completely revitalized as he participates in volunteer workouts in the Bucs’ offseason program.

“I mean he’s doing the virtual stuff now with our strength coaches and it’s like, ‘Whoa, Slow down dude,’ Arians said of Gronk.

“And he looks great. He’s sittin’ at 260 [pounds]. I said, ‘You don’t need to get back to 270, man. Play at a good weight.’ I mean, it will take him five weeks and he’s going to be in football shape. The year off really, really helped him. And it’s not like he dropped down to 230. He was only down about 14 pounds.”

This is great, great news, almost as exciting as the Bucs’ new 2020 schedule. A motivated and healthy Gronk from Day 1 is a fantastic concept.

Sure, he might break down early. But if he helps the Bucs jump out to, say, a 6-3 record, he already will have earned his $10 million salary.

    What a life Gronk lives

I’m excited as hell for this season, but my mind keeps wandering to the “dream team” that the eagles had in 2011. Hopefully, this team gels quickly and we can avoid the eagle’s fate.

The “Dream Team” and the 2019 Browns are bad comparisons for what our team is. First the “Dream Team” did not have a Super Bowl winning QB on it much less Tom Brady. Second, they fell into thinking Mike Vick getting hot in 2010 would magically carry over into the next season.

The Browns well I feel like everyone with common sense saw what was coming but nonetheless the media was pumpin me up. It was never going to work with those personalities in the first year even with an experienced head coach. Instead they took a guy with minimal play calling and zero head coaching experience, signed a bunch of talent, and I guess hopes it would all magically come together???

We were 7-9 WITH 41 turnovers! Now, take out the primary source of those turnover and replace him with the most decorated QB in history and how could you not expect this team to minimally win 10 games.

    @JonJohn

    He’s quite the character huh?

Yeah, the 2011 Eagles and 2019 Browns are awful comparisons!! For the reasons mentioned above, but mainly due to the fact that we brought 2 free agents! TWO! We needed to replace Jameis (Brady). What are we supposed to do, bring back Mike Glennon or Bruce Gradkowski? I will confidently say that we will have at least 25 less giveaways (Bradys worst season was 15 ints) which is almost 2 turnovers/game less! Think of how many 10-14 point swings 1 turnover can be!! And how many 1.score games did we lose due to 1 turnover (about 5) and lousy games due to Matt Gays foot (2 games at least). I can reasonably justify a 12-win season, but my prediction is 13-3! The “dream team” comparison is asinine at best!

Gronk breaking down is certainly a possibility, but they don’t have to play him every snap. If it were me, I’d have him in on most 3rd downs and all possessions inside the red zone. That would certainly limit his exposure.

  7. Ricky Says:

I wouldn’t fear the “dream team” topic .. because truly we already had a talented roster, we only added 2 pieces, we not just out here Signing everybody

  8. Hodad Says:

People always talk about Gronks size, and strength after the catch, but his speed is never mentioned. There’s highlights of Gronk running away from people. losing ten pounds can only make him faster. Gronk don’t need to in line block as much for us. Auclair, and O.J. can do more of that. Gronk, and Brate should get more looks in the passing game.

  9. Razor Ramone Says:

It seems like Chuck only used Ricky Dudley in red zone situations, I remember him mostly catching touchdowns.

I watched his interview with Casey, he really does seem motivated and pumped to play football again. He referenced the mental preparation a bunch as well.

He seems like a guy who loves to have fun but also knows what it takes to prepare and is motivated to do so.

  11. Owlykat Says:

Gronk also needs to help D. Smith when he faces a speed rusher on his side so Gronk can chip block them and then go out for a pass. We do need to give Gronk time off when he gets tired.

JonJohn, the things that money DOES buy lol!!!!
