Johnson: Props To P.J. Fleck

Speaking in a Zoom conference hookup shortly after the Bucs drafted him, Minnesota wide receiver Tyler Johnson gave a lot of credit to being drafted by the Bucs to a former Bucs assistant coach.
Gophers coach P.J. Fleck coached Bucs receivers in 2012 during the Lost Decade. And Fleck’s experience in the NFL, who also played wide receiver for the 49ers, left an impression on Johnson.
“Coach Fleck is an amazing coach,” Johnson said. “A true players coach. Someone you definitely want on your side. Over the past three years of my life… when it comes to a football standpoint, he is a great, phenomenal coach.
“He knows what he is doing. He knows what he is talking about. Having that an extra coach in the receivers room, knowing that Coach Fleck coached in the league and played in the league as well, and has that type of knowledge, it all comes together the bits and pieces come together.”
Johnson, known as a fighter for the football, believes his football career is back to Square 1. He knows he hasn’t proven a darned thing and needs to both show his worth to his knew team, but to gain the trust of his teammates.
“Once you get to the highest level, you have to restart your journey,” Johnson said.
Oh, and experiencing warm(er) weather in December and January practicing and playing in the Outback Bowl this past winter makes him appreciate his soon-to-be new home.
“I loved playing out there,” Johnson said. “I’m from Minnesota. It gets cold there in the winter. Being out there in the winter was definitely amazing, especially to get out there in the heat and the nice weather.”

Godwin had his best year of his career, a Pro Bowl selection and over 1,000 yards playing the slot. Why fix something that is not broken?

The Jets choose a punter, which is whatever, not bashing it – but reading the scouting report it says he’s “undersized”… so for a punter, I figure that must mean he’s like 5′ 6″ or something – no, he’s like 5′ 11” 200lbs. How is that undersized for a punter? They’re punters.

All 6’2” or more and fight for the hall.
Basically, if Brady has lost anything on the Deep ball, it does not matter. These guys all go up and get the ball.
Plus there’s only so many safeties to help double-team over the top.

Very unimpressed with this draft, grade D.
We have one player Wirfs who’ll contribute immediately.
Winfield = Evans 2.0 bad wheels don’t see him making an immediate impact in an all in year.
There’s other RBs on the street and practice teams who could make the same impact and price as Ke’shawn.
Better draft strategies:
Mortgage whole draft move up grab Isaiah Simon’s and sign Peters, grade A.
Draft Wirfs move him to guard to compete with Cappa. Move up in the second draft Cleveland or Jones to compete Haeg. Now that’s a top OL with depth garage A.
Draft Wirfs move up in the second grab best WR or RB, grade A-.
Round for 4,5,6,7 rarely create immediate impact or backups their camp bodies, who usually never make the team.

As a throw away pick the Bucs should grab QB Josh Love as a dev guy. Watching his highlights, just the way he throws the ball, he looks like Drew Brees – I mean a lot like him. No idea if he’ll become anything, but I just really like the way the way he sort of just shots the ball out without a big windup or anything.

Daniel … yet another pseudo-buccaneer fan who sits there and bitches and complains and whines and talks about how they know better than the general manager, when the general manager has this team in position to make a Super Bowl run. LoL. Whatever dude.
-That running back you think has equals sitting on the street, has a good burst, Is decisive and hits the whole, doesn’t dance around, has damn good hands.
-The receiver they just picked is 6’2” 200, fights for the ball, runs good routes and has good hands. Only thing he doesn’t have is a burst to separate.
-The safety at 5’9” is a concern but he can leap out of the building, is the best ball hawk DB in the country, is 200 pounds and can hit. He’s basically a play maker with a motor.
But for some reason the Buccaneers have A LOT of fans that are just focking negative.
There’s not a player in the draft that doesn’t have some negatives to him. But you idiots constantly want to focus on that instead of looking at the positives.
For some reason that must be fun for a lot of you, I don’t get it. And I see all the constant negativity on these boards is just irritating as hell.

So this DT Davis is 6′ 1″ 308lbs and he’s also being called undersized… Wow, Sapp played one of his best seasons at 6′ 0″ 305lbs. This guy has short arms though, I don’t even know what ideal arm length is for the NFL, but I know 31 1/2″ isn’t good.
Anywho, sounds like a pure development guy, camp meat. Did have a 5th round grade, at least on NFL for what it’s worth.

You should leave your emotions out of your scouting, personal attacks aren’t necessary when you have facts. We’ll see in the future if anyone but Wirfs makes a contribution on this team. As for your scouting reports of these draft picks, they seem more like an advertisement than a fair pro skill assessment.
Simmons filled a necessary hole and could be in the hall of fame someday in the right scheme. I would expect his addition to add one win to our record. As I see it this draft gained us one first year contributer, Wirfs, so mortgaging the draft for Simmons a rare talent would also get us one first year contributer.

Broken down Peters is still an upgrade from last year’s right tackle situation. Heag is an unknown right now, no one knows how he’ll do on the Bucs. Heag was a back up late year for a reason. Signing Peters or moving up in the draft for Cleveland or Jones and moving Wirfs to guard would give us year two draft picks that are first year contributers and add depth. Only year one contributor in this draft is Wirfs.
For mortgaging a draft to get one of the best players at a position of need is well worth it. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 round draft picks do not provide contributors or back ups but once in a million.
