Saints Draft Is Over

April 25th, 2020

Barring an unexpected trade, the reigning NFC South champs have washed their hands and turned off their draft computers.

New Orleans traded their entire Day 3 load of draft picks to get back get Dayton tight end Adam Trautman in Round 3, after snagging A-list center/guard Cesar Ruiz out of Michigan with the No. 24 overall pick and Wisconsin LB Zack Baun earlier in the third round.

Three picks and the Saints are out.

The Ruiz selection was class Sean Payton, who has said many times he believes centers and guards are more valuable than offensive tackles.

The Saints are coming off a 13-3 season and were very active in free agency, including signing a couple of ex-Bucs wild cards in safety D.J. Swearinger and edge rusher Noah Spence. Will the Bucs have enough to dethrone a power Saints team? That’s going to be the big key to the Bucs’ Super Bowl hopes.

Joe’s just hoping the Bucs don’t open the season in New Orleans and come home for the Chiefs.

Maybe the NFL will be nice and let the Bucs get the rebuilding Panthers at home to kick things off and let Tom Brady ease in to his new teammates.

Marty Hurney, a sports writer, drafts better than Jason Licht, a career NFL bootlicker.

And in some respects he could be right.

If you are planted up the middle, a QB can step up in the pocket to avoid the edge rush.

With a shorter QB like Brees, this is especially important, keeping trees out of his sight lines.

Plus they cost less. A cap strategery.

  3. I Bleed Pewter Says:

Because Sean Payton subscribes to building offensive lines with 1st round draft picks they are yearly an offensive juggernaut.

Bucs not so much and Tampa Bay fans are whiney little babies. I couldn’t how many cried that spent a 4th to move up and insure we got the last of the top big tackles.

    Whiners!

A power Saints team? The same one that Kirk Cousins bent over in their own house? The same power Saints team that loses in spectacular (hilarious) fashion every year? That same one that trusted Taysom Hill more than Drew Brees in a playoff game? That one right? Bucs will be fine. Maybe Brady can show the Saints how to win when it matters like a real man

The league owes the Bucs some relief in the 2020 schedule, after the pooch-screw of the 2019 schedule!

  9. Kaptain Morgan Says:

I’m more worried about the Bucs facing the 49ers now than the Saints. The 49ers were already damn good and they look like they got better.

Would be a hell of a match-up in the NFC Championship of Brady vs. Jimmy-G

“There is absolutely no one in the NFL that knows the weakness and how to beat the Bucs than

    DC Dennis allen

Fullout Attack, Blitz, stunt, pressure the offensive line to sack the QB all game

Weakness of the Oline is Dope Smith And Mush Cappa

TB12 cant get the ball out quickly to our hands of stone Rojo, no slot wr like Hump but most importantly incompetence of the OC playcaller to counter the pressure

The key to beat the Bucs is takedown Brady before the long vertical route develops and so far we do not have the personnel for Brady to get the ball out quickly before he goes down”

Humm… just watched a poor edited 3-min highlight video of Tyler and I do not see an NFL player at all. He doesn’t appear to have the minimum speed you’d need, at least from the highlights. He does seem to be a good size, is thick, but from a very quick eyeball test, he doesn’t seem to have the speed to play in the NFL. With that said, again, I’m watching highlights – and it’s poorly put together, so I reserve judgement to change my mind – but if the idea was to get a speed guy to replace Perriman, this doesn’t appear to be that guy. This guy is more like a taller, slower, Bobo.

  17. Bejesus-belt Says:

That’s what good teams can do. Not surprised

  18. Rod Munch Says:

Update: I did find another video, like the pick a lot more. That first video is awful, it’s jerky, it’s hard to take anything away from.

  19. BigMacAttack Says:

Never underestimate the Saints. As long as Brees plays, they’ll be good. This is why the Safety pick was more important than a RB in round 2. The Saints have a decent defense but not a great one and that’s where we will have the advantage this season. Not to discount Brady and his all star cast, but the Bucs will win with Defense. Todd Bada$$ Bowles and 17 points or less per game. There will be some serious thumping going on and hopefully not so many personal fowl penalties. Winfield Sr. will probably be at every practice. Bet

  20. BigMacAttack Says:

And I would have taken Fromm at 161. Buffalo snagged him a few later.

There are closet Brady-haters in the media. espn will probably be hoping the Bucs get an insurmountable schedule (as usual)….Ghost in the Machine anyone?
